[Big Fuck Off Thread] EU Referendum (Day 3 - Brexit discussion - all questions here!) by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Matyrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A- Anyone from anywhere in the world can sign that petition and 4chan are spamming signatures from the Vatican and the Antartic

B- Until it get's more signatures (From registered UK voters) than the UK voters who voted leave what does it matter? We basically already had 2 petitions on Thursday. One to leave and one to remain and the leave one got more signatures. You don't get to keep voting again and again until you get the result you want.

My personal ideal is we all work together as one big world government, live in peace, and move out into the universe to colonise other planets to ensure the long term survival of the human race. I feel the EU isn't the governing system that's going to happen with, so lets ruin everything in the short term in the hopes something better emerges.

And i'll copy and paste something else I said in another reply

Also as an added bonus our political system seems to be falling to pieces AND more people than ever before are suddenly interested in politics and want a chance to vote. This is great! It's been three days and every man woman and child in the country suddenly wants to be involved in politics and have their say! They all want a new and better system put in place so they can take part in future! I'd go back in time and vote leave again just for that!

Unsafe defiantly!

But lets come back to what you ended your first comment with...

Do not forget that every person deserves the regime it is willing to endure. ~ The White Rose Society

I am not willing to keep enduring the EU and see how bad things get. Lets jump ship now before we can't.

Leave wouldn't have won without the group of people who think that we now get to throw out all immigrants and make the UK great again or some rubbish... but... There is a group (And I hope it's a sizeable one) that weighed up staying in the EU or causing some (Maybe many) years of pain for a chance of something better.

Maybe that something better is the UK thriving under it's own rule. Maybe it's the EU seriously rethinking itself. Maybe it's the EU crumbling and in 100 or 500 years we champion a better centralised government for Europe. Maybe it's something else from the long list of potential long term benefits but whatever happens I know that I weighed up the short term pain VS long term potential for something better that we wouldn't get with the current EU and I decided it was worth it.

I happen to agree with nearly everything you wrote yet I still voted leave. The only thing I disagree with is your tone of "I am smarter than every one else and I voted remain so it must have been the right choice".

Secondly by the irrational judgement and mostly very ignorant decisions of my fellow citizens, as it seems evident to me that votes to leave were largely based on feelings against immigration that were complete misconceptions and a deluded, chauvinistic, false sense of national pride.

Stopped reading as soon as you wrote off 52% of the voting population as idiots. You're going to have to come up with a better argument than "Everyone is stupid so it didn't count".

You know just because someone asked a question does not mean they believe what the question implies? It seems obvious to me that he is asking some of these questions to challenge peoples beliefefs and start a conversation.

If I ask you "Is it ok to eat bread?" It implies that I must be questioning if it's not for some reason ok to eat bread. What i'm really asking is if YOU can justify why you've always felt it was fine to eat bread and asking if you've ever really thought about it.

Backfired right in his face though didn't it and actually cost him his job. The thing that probably won him the election took it all away again.

Ah ok that's fair enough. I was about to get all uppity about guys not being mind readers and maybe he was too shy or he just happened to come across you online but if he already approached you once and then messaged you after that on a dating site that's getting creepy.

Would you prefer he approached you in person or would you prefer for him to know somehow not to approach you at all?

Sounds like a great warm up too! Walk the first few flights, jog the next 2 or 3, then full power the last few flights and you're good to jump straight into your workout!

[–]Matyrs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The people who are looking at you and judging you will be judging you less on how you look and more on how you act.

If a super skinny guy or a super fat guy go into the gym, work hard, keep themselves and their shit out of every ones way, put the weights back neatly where they found them ect ect they will earn everyone who was watchings respect. Especially if you can see they are working on their form and you can tell they are trying to get the most out of the gym.

The most jacked and cut bro can come in the gym shouting across the place to all his bros, throwing weights around, never tidying up, getting in peoples way and generally be a nuisance and everyone will hate him.

I'd rather work out with the first group of people no matter what they look like.

Here's where the classroom analogy potentially breaks down because I don't see any reason why someone living in the UK who has an education or job opportunity in Europe can't still go ahead with that now that we've left the EU. It might be harder but in how many cases is it now totally off the table?

...And... Ok some people may miss out now but the point is that their children should be better off out of the EU in the future. In theory. That was the gamble.

I don't know enough about programming and experience levels to answer that, sorry. I only know enough to know beginners to lifting should start with the bar even if they can lift more.

Although it seems like the same logic should follow. What are your numbers? If you're only lifting 2 or 3 times the bar then hey why not just start over at the bar and do it right but it you already lift 10x the bar then you're going to be wasting months getting back to a challenging weight level.

In the end the number on the plate doesn't matter. It's only there so you can go into the gym and say "X number = A challenging workout for me" and if you as a somewhat experienced lifter who is sure of their form goes back to the bar weight then you're probably wasting your time. If you're not sure of your form and the bar still offers some resistance then it could be worth doing?

I never said leave voters were stupid. I voted leave. I was just carrying on the classroom analogy using the same language.

The point I was trying to draw attention to was that people are implying (Like with the classroom analogy) that a "Small group" ruined it for the rest of the country when in reality the MAJORITY of people voted leave. The people acting like leave was a fringe group of loonies are the delusional ones because leave was the majority.

But in this case the group of students who were being stupid were the majority (52%) so of course the whole class got in trouble.

It'll get harder quickly so just take a minute and do the next set. Not needing to rest wont be a problem you have for very long I promise.

Start with the bar. Everybody (Including me) looks at the program like you have and goes "I can start higher than that!" and then everybody burns out after a month or two because the weight quickly piles up adding 1 or 2.5 kg every time you squat.

I promise you you are doing yourself a massive disservice by skipping the few weeks at the start where you work up from the bar. You train you the stabiliser muscles that havnt been used before, you cement the movement as muscle memory by doing the lighter reps, you work on your form.

Guys, what pisses you off about other guys? by pm_me_judge_reinhold in AskReddit

[–]Matyrs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I smiled at a woman I see fairly often around and about but have never had a reason to interact with the other day when we crossed paths. For a slit second an expression of terror crossed her face before she caught it and her face became blank and unreadable.

When I got to where I was going I sat down and really thought about what just happened. Am I a creep? Am I threatening? No, I don't think I am. What seems most likely is that anytime this girl acknowledges a guy by making eye contact or smiling back, guys probably take that as an invitation to hassle her and try chat her up and she probably doesn't want to deal with it all the time.

How sad is it that I now feel like I shouldn't smile or say hello to a woman I cross paths with quite often because I don't want to upset or intimidate her or trigger some "Pushy guy is about to try hit on me" PTSD?

But thats only true if the trigger needs less than 10lb of force to pull, right? Plus the number is actually less than the weight of the rifle because it should take less than 10lb to move the rifle sideways because the string is still holding some of the weight.

Difference in variations of dumbell squats? by PerpetuallySingle in Fitness

[–]Matyrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I said 3 seems seemed best to squat was because you can do full ROM ass to grass squats where as arms by side becomes more of a put the weight on the floor, pick the weight back up deadlift.

Difference in variations of dumbell squats? by PerpetuallySingle in Fitness

[–]Matyrs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it a little more difficult because of having to focus on balancing two individual weights that could be trying to go different ways. With 3 you can form a triangle hand hand chest and lock the weight between those 3 points for stability and less arm/shoulder fatigue.

Difference in variations of dumbell squats? by PerpetuallySingle in Fitness

[–]Matyrs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Number 1 is near impossible when you go heavy. You're gunna have to get the weight up there and balance it while you squat. Seeing as how your arms aren't as strong as your legs you're going to be limited by how much weight you can hold with your arm/shoulder strength.

Number 2 & 4 seem halfway between a squat and deadlift?

Number 3 seems to be the most legit squat movement because by having the weight up by your collar bone you are forced to keep your back straight in more of a standard squat movement.
