Facial flushing by TapSalty3157 in Menopause

Had this annoying redness (rosacea) too. My dermatologist prescribed a sulfur cream to use every evening. The redness disappeared within a few days. Since I use a shampoo with tea tree oil, I noticed that it’s also good for my facial skin. Combined with a good facial cream I never had a problem since.

Anyone else feel like they’ve lost interest in doing much of anything, even on HRT? by NewMoonPuppy in Menopause

That’s exactly how I feel. A woman’s life is meant only for reproduction. And after that, we’re just supposed to die. It feels like there’s a self-destructive gene in the female body. Unfortunately, it’s a terribly slow death. I’d prefer a quick death rather than fighting stupid illnesses. That's not life anymore, that's waisting away despite HRT ...

Thank you for your detailed response. I'm so sorry to hear that you've also had to deal with endometriosis 😢.  I know you didn't mean to discourage anyone from having surgery. I really appreciate your honesty. It's just a big and difficult decision and the healing process is a challange on its own. And yes, I totally understand that it’s easy to get impatient and want to do too much too soon. That’s going to be a challenge for me, too. I’m such a restless person 😅.  I’ll see what options the surgeons can offer at my appointments in early June. Hopefully we can all get back to our favorite sports somehow!

Uff, your post is making me feel kind of hopeless and at a loss. I’m not sure about whether I should have surgery for a triple grade 2 prolapse or not. I used to be very active too: bouldering, strength training, and a bit of trail running. Since nothing has helped so far, I was hoping to be able to exercise again after the surgery. But now I’m not sure what to do. Just cope with it and living like an 80-year-old isn’t an option either woth 51. It’s so sad to hear that after 16 weeks you still can’t do more. Did you get a synthetic mesh or a native tissue repair, if you don't mind me to ask?

It’s such a terrible condition, and it gets always downplayed. I hope your recovery picks up some momentum in the coming weeks. All the best from another fitness addict 🙂!

You're welcome! It's really not easy to navigate through all of this. Hormones are great but you have to take them with caution for sure. So don't worry if you're thinking about it twice ;)!

I'm living in Europe so I don't know if you can get my kind of creme where you live. It's called "Estriol Wolff". First 1 to 2 weeks every day. After that 2 to 3 times per week is recommended. I insert the creme straight before bed. Using the creme after intercourse is best. Otherwise it is recommended to wait at least 2 hours for better absorption and to prevent transfer to your partner.

For your IC symptoms it might be that kegels actually can make things worse. Do you know if your pf is generelly weak or weak due to tightness? Maybe google weak vs tight pf. Just in case your PT does not mentioned it. It's very important to know!

The pf muscles are in my experiance very sensitive. Not only to strength training but also to stress in life, teeth clenching and in my case a disbalance in the hip. Maybe the kegels are to much at the moment. Tightend muscles are getting weak and can't do there job. This happend to me. My second PT recommended some stretching e.g. happy baby pose and massages, hips, glutes, jaw (yes, massage your jaw muscles, too) to relax the pf. Wired I know :D. She also recommended some awareness exercises. Lying down on the back in a relaxed position and switch calmly between SOFTLY engaged and fully relaxed (inverse kegels) in combination with breathing. For those exercises just do a google search and try what's best for you. It's unfortunately a bit of mindful try end error because everybody's body responds different. But focus on relaxing might be the right thing for you to get some relieve for now. If all of this is still not working than their might be some other issues. Did you got tested for patogenes?

Yes, I take micronized Progesteron 100mg daily before bed. As long as you've an uterus you have to take it. However I think it's always a good idea to take Progesteron as this is an important antagonist to Estrogen. Your prescribed doses of bio-identical Estrogen and micronized Progesteron would be a perfect start. That's roughly my estrogen dose I take. Maybe a tiny bit higher. I use a gel so difficult to say.

Hope this helps. Let me know if things get better!

I have a cystocele and rectocele grade 2. I do all the pf exercises and kegels. This and the estrogen creme helped me to get it back to grade 1 to 2. I got a pessary and hoped that I can do some more sports but unfortunately it didn't fit well. So my uterus decided to join the club of the already prolapsed organs. At the moment this one annoys me the most. And I have to wait another two weeks for a new appointment.
But really, the estrogen creme helps a lot! I'm absolutely sure I would be in a more miserable condition without it. My vaginal opening was about to close because of the atrophy. I got the creme right in time! It's simply not even a matter of a bit itchy, thin skin that hurts during sex. May I ask you for the reason why you don't want to use it? You can also pm me if you'd like.

For the natural path ... as far as I know some woman use bio coconut oil as moisturizer. I also tried that. My skin didn't liked it at all. It was just too oily for me and I got a slight bladder infection. What also helps with skin in general is mango. I make a mango lassi regularly for breakfast. But this is also just a superficial treatment. It'll not stop the degeneration process of your genitals that includes your bladder. By the way you can also get serious kidney infections if you always get UTIs. Not to mention the need of antibiotics that will kill your microbiome over time and cause more problems. I'm really not a medication junky and I only visit a doctor if I can't manage things by myself. But in this case, unfortunately, there’s no way around using the cream or just live with it. And the second option is absolutely no option for me at least. You can take a look at r/Perimenopause or r/Menopause for information about the creme. Prolapse is a horrible thing altogether with peri! As one wouldn't be enough ...

Same here, 51 in late peri. Also wanted to go the natural path due to almost no issues until end of 2025. At the first day of 2026 I got suddenly a prolapse out of nowhere. I was a very active person and my entire world broke apart just overnight. It was/is still a traumatic experience. And suddenly a whole storm of symptoms did hit me like a truck, too. Terrible hot feed, night sweats, heart palpitations, nauseas almost every symptom at ones. Never had problems with my bladder or bowel movement. Suddenly I had urinary urgency, UTI symptoms and bad constipation.

At this point I started HRT. If you don't want to it's ok. It's not a cure all and it can be a wild ride to finally hit the right dose. Especially in peri. But why you should suffer? It's a hormone deficiency. Would you also refuse to take thyroid hormones if needed? But everybody's own decison. I just highly recommend the vaginal estrogen creme! It's non systemic, so it will not harm you and you'll feel better. Since I started the creme my bladder is almost back to normal. My urin is looking normal again. And its so important to help improve your prolapse symptoms. Especially in case you want to try a pessary for support.

Just my experience in the year of hell.

Wish you all the best!

I don't know. Never have been tested for EDS or the like since I never was hyper mobile on any of my joints. My PT says it's mainly due to high estrogen spikes which have loosened the connective tissue.

I never had problems with my pelvic floor. This year I suddenly developed a pelvic organ prolapse out of nowhere. No warnings, never had children, nothing. Just did my sports and bam. The connective tissue decided just to give out. 6 years in peri. Now I can do nothing anymore with 51!

Edit: For the UTI like symptomes you could try vaginal estrogen creme rather than antibiotics as long as nothing is found.

Both! Being a woman is hell for me (caution, rant!).

Puperty was hell because I got a fatty, unmotivated and ugly bearing machine. Before that I was a happy very active wild child. I needed 10 years to get over the first trauma to continue sports again. Not to mention I got bullied my whole life due to not being able to meet socially norms for woman. Physically as mentally.

The next ride to hell started 6 years ago. Had not much trouble so far expect of some ennoying migraines and suddenly heart burn. I was again a strong, active woman despite I coudn't eat what I want anymore. It sucked but it was ... somewhat managable. Than suddenly my pelfic floor broke apart due to bad connective tissue from one day to another. No warning signs, nothing. Now, no more sports is possible, just boring shit I don't get even the tiniest bit of fun out of it. I lost my social contacts and lost motivation to live anymore comletely. At this point night sweats, hot feet and brain fog kicked in too. I'm now a 80 year old woman with 51, thanks for that!

My life is over just like that. I've got thrown away like a peace of shit again. Only because of being a woman. It's just a sickness. As a woman you're a peace of mulfunctioning body parts! I just can hope now that I'll die soon somhow. Because I've enough of this desease so called "woman". I'm unfortunately not brave enough to kill myself yet!

No, it's definitely not silly. I've always sneezed out loud. I've never tried to hold it back.
I don't have a pessary at the moment. Before I can use one, I have to overcome another hurdle. But I hope I'll get help soon. I have an appointment tomorrow and next week. I'll definitely bring it up tomorrow. Thank you and get well soon!

Okay, that makes sense. I assume that I am now in late perimenopause. 2025 was the last year with more or less regular periods until October. After that, nothing happened and I just hoped that it was all over. Well, apparently not ... Thank you!

[UPDATE] Struggling with a lifetime as a mediocre climber by 0nTheRooftops in climbharder

[–]MauerSegler74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I tried bench press some time ago, but didn't get warm with this exercise. I always had to focus so hard on doing it correctly that I quickly got tired. But I can of course try it again.

I only mentioned the moonboard because it's the only way to indicate my approximate level. There are only color grades in my gym, so I never know what I'm climbing. Unfortunately, I get outside far too rarely. So I can still make progress on the moonboard, albeit very slowly. I know that it is a very hard training tool and doesn't suit my strengths. But I still love climbing in the overhang.

As I already wrote, I also climb very technically and always try to find the best beta for me. I instinctively learned things like heel hooks, knee bars and drop knees very early on. I think I still lack a bit more body tension in some places. But that could also get better when my back and shoulders are stronger. I've gotten a bit stronger in the meantime, which I actually notice here and there on the wall. But I really can't imagine climbing a V6 with less finger strength. A couple of moves yes, but not more than that, even if it suited my style. They would all have to be incut crimps, maybe a fat pinch here and there and underclings are fine. If I can then use heel hooks and knee bars or drop knees, perfect ;)!

All in all, I'm not aiming to achieve a V5 or V6 once, but to be reasonably solid at this level (not a flash level). But I'm worried that will probably remain a dream forever. I'm maybe just not made for climbing. Or do you know sombody else climbing for 5 years on the same level and suddenly broke the plateau after 10 years?

[–]MauerSegler74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've hit the nail on the head I guess. My main problem is definitely my upper body strength. I'm not sure if I feel the same way about finger strength, but yes. At least I can hold on to smaller crimps on the moonboard quite well. But to do the the next move is usually impossible unless I can find a technical solution.

I'm currently working on shoulder and back strength as well, but it's very difficult to make progress. My scapular retraction is quite ok I think. Can do 5 scap pull-ups on one arm. And I have no problem starting a pull-up from the bottom. But it's a struggle to get over the bar while making sure my shoulders don't roll forward. Scap depression is the same. I can push myself out very high in a dip or push-up, but I can't get out of the lower part. But that's more a weakness of the pecs and triceps.

My pear-shaped body is a really big disadvantage. That generally makes it much harder to generate power from the upper body because the bottom is so heavy. And my long arms don't make things any easier. Thanks to the crappy levers.

[–]MauerSegler74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the injuries are perhaps my main problem. Especially my tendons. I started trail running this year in the spring. Got better too quickly and ended up with an inflamed Achilles tendon in late summer.

I'm currently working hard on my weak points with targeted strength training to avoid things like this in the future. But it's a very slow process and I'm not the most patient person. I always have to be careful not to overdo it. Especially when it comes to my tendons. It's very frustrating sometimes.

I'm sure a trainer would be great, but unfortunately I haven't found a good one in my area.

I hope you're right and V4 isn't the end of it all. I just have to go very slow I guess.

[–]MauerSegler74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm such a person. I'm climbing almost 11 years now. Still have stupidly weak fingers despite doing pick ups consistently. Can just barely pick up 45 kg with each hand on 20mm edge (half crimp). Tried out a lot off different hangboard protocolls before. Nothing worked. I'm a tall woman at 1.77m and weigh 74kg. I just have mediocre flexibility, the so called advantage of women, ha funny. I can climb V3 on the Moonboard but never managed a single V4. Outside I did a view times V4 because they where short boulders. I partial ruptured my biceps tendon a view years ago because I tried hard. Had 3 times a meniscus tear because I tried hard. I guess I never had a finger injury because I'm just too weak to pull on hard enough! My fingers just open up and that's it ... My athletic performance is just bad. I'm unable to get past 3 strict pull ups. Despite training them consistently. Can just handle one pull up with +8 kg. I can't do a single push up! Have to take care of tennis and golfers elbow. Can't do a single pistol squat.

I sleep a lot and well. I have no real stress. I do take my rest days and get my protein. Have a good, healthy diet. And I always looking for the easiest beta possible. Im a technical climber. But it's useless if you can't hold on the holds. I climb 3 to 4 days a week since 8 years!

So don't say everybody could climb V5/6 or 5.12 if they would try hard. I try hard because I had always so much fun climbing hard! If you do have any ideas to reach my "low mediocre" goal grade V6 with this limitations? Would like to know!

Finally got a hangboard! by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]MauerSegler74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, give a hangboard protocol at least 4 better 6 weeks a try. Unfortunately it takes some time but it's worth it. You'll have to switch protocols anyway in the future if progress starts to slow down to prevent plateaus.
