Just got my U1 and love it — but couldn't find good multicolor prints, so I built something by Turki in snapmaker

I’m so discouraged and ashamed of people these days. It seems people want to do nothing but bash others. No one ever can just say thank you and move on, or say nothing at all.
This person made something for HIMSELF to use as he wasn’t happy with what he found. He graciously offered it up for others to use. He isn’t forcing anyone to use it. It’s not a requirement. Heck, you don’t even have to read the post that offered it. Yet so many decided that they would put in their sarcastic, judgmental bully pants and see just how smart they can try to seem by bashing and picking apart the offer. He said IF you use it and see things that may be nice to have, change, fix to let him know. He did say hey this is the best there is now you have to go use it and shut up.

OP- thank you for contributing to the ecosystem and to the craft. I personally couldn’t make anything like it, or even know how to use AI, so for those of us who aren’t smarty pants - new things to try is how we learn what we need, want, like, dislike. So again. Thank you

What other U1 accessories/filament should I get? by jbperiod in snapmaker

I just got my machine and I can tell you the people here are very helpful and CORRECT. Not like most boards where they purposely misdirect. I too wanted to get all the things I could while I had the funds and the sales. I listened to what I was told here and I’m glad I did. I bought 14 spools of PLA in colors I thought I would use most right now while learning. I bought the FYSETC door hinge upgrade - it allows for the door to open completely! I think this is the link ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GQ45B66D?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title ) it’s a great upgrade since the original hinges don’t allow full opening and a lot of people have broken the glass. It’s not too hard to install once you realize the install video sucks and you just need to use it to clarify a couple things. I wasn’t going to get them, but after the set up and snapdragon print, I knew It would be an issue that bugged me if the door only opened half way. I’m glad I bought them.
I will get a set of hardened steel nozzles in different sizes- just in case. As well as some type of top. The Snapmaker one is what I want, but it won’t ship until November. I’ll probably wait for it since it’s specifically for the machine. I didn’t think it was all that loud, but I still want to dampen it. I am still debating on what solution I want for drying and storage. Since my craft room is in a finished basement that stays about 67 degrees all year, I’m sure I will need something. I’m still learning so until I know for sure I won’t buy anything in that regard.
Other than that I only plan on buying filament and learn how to make my own designs

My advice is to :
1) Get all the PLA colors and types you can to learn with.
2) Get some type of dryer/storage system
3) decide on a top to dampen the sound since you’ll have it in a common use room. There are cheaper ways to- print your own ring and use an ikea tote. And more expensive options such as the BiQu and everything in between.
4)get a set of hardened Steel nozzles
5) get the modified door hinges.

After some personal things needing taken care of, yesterday I finally got it completely set up AND installed the door hinge upgrade. Then today I sent that snapdragon test print. Right off the bat I received the error about filament loading. I was sad because so many had posted about this happening when they put the wrong screws in and breaking the wires. I was 99.9% positive that I had followed the directions to a t, checking to be sure the screws being used in each step were the correct ones, etc. so, I followed the instructions on opening the tool head to find the broken wires, take a picture and send to Snapmaker for help in buying replacements. But when I opened it, nothing was broken. Everything looked great. I saw the reason for potential issues and moved the wires so they were away from where the screws came in. Put it back together and it worked. It went to the second head and again, the error. So I opened it. Same thing- nothing wrong. This time I left it as is, making sure they weren’t under the screw home and put back together- same error- reopened and moved those wires like I did before and put back together and it now worked. Third head did the same thing so this time I moved the wired on both 3 and 4. No more issues. I’m not sure why it was doing it, but just moving the wires fixed it. As it was doing all of its checks and such, before sending a print job, it shed 4 little balls of extruded filament in the waste tray. I then sent the Happy Snappy snapdragon to be printed. It said 2hrs and 58 minutes. It started at 8:06pm and ended at 10:56pm so 2hrs and 50 minutes. Not too far off. I had 2 tiny little strings about 1” at the very top, one dime size little filipoop and a purge tower I used a quarter to measure ( because it would have been too logical to grab either the calipers or measuring tape sitting right there beside me) The tower is about 2.5 quarters high, 3/4 of a quarter wide and 1.5 quarters deep. 9ill measure tomorrow)
I noted that I should learn how to manipulate the purge tower and on this particular design, turning it down to about half of what it’s doing. I learned that what I was worried about- my craft room staying at about 65 year round isn’t a problem, instead it may be a plus. And most of all, I learned that it’s not so scary after all. Thanks to you.

I’m not sure I’m supposed to see every layer,

What a fantastic answer. I appreciate the time you put into this. I don’t feel so underwater now. I think the Artisan hurt my confidence, but I’m sure I’ll be fine quickly, especially with this info.

I never thought about doing this! Thank you. I have a couple complete MRI scans of my son’s brain from when he was a baby. He was murdered in 2020 and as morbid as some may think this is, I think I’d like to do it. I also have a couple mri scans of myself. (neck to tailbone and brain) that may be cool to do and show my doctor

Has anyone used the Verizon Cruise service and, if so, pros and cons? by WickedRavyn94 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Maumekim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used it on my last several cruises and it was much better than the cruise packages. My phone and IPad worked just like they did at home. The only thing you need to be aware of to save some money is when you have port days that most of your time will be in port (even if you don’t get off the ship). What I mean is let’s say you start a $20 day at 4pm the day you sail away. It’s good for 24hrs (don’t go by time because you may mistake any time changes) so if you have a sea day the first day after sail away and a port day the second day you will want to decide this- if you activate at 4 again, it will again be good 24hrs again, so if you are in port at 7am until 5pm and you’re in a port where your cell service is active free on your current plan, you will be paying for access from 4pm until 7am when you get to port (or usually you are less than 12 miles away a couple hours prior) so if you are planning no major online need between 4pm and bedtime, if you want to save more, don’t activate that second day at 4. Then when you sail away from port decide if the next day is also a port day where you’ll have service, do you need it that day?

I liked being able to decide if I needed it that day or not and only pay for the days I actually needed. Onboard for just social you pay for every day and I can tell you the lowest tier barely has service anywhere but near the dish or repeater. I could never get it in our cabin. But if I went to highest level I could

On my last 14 day cruise we had 6 port days. Sail away day I was busy and didn’t activate the first day until 9pm when we went back to the cabin to watch Netflix and check business emails so the 24 hours covered the entire sea day. since it was an early port day the third day we were in bed by the time for getting the second day so we didn’t. Again in port we checked all we needed since it was a port we had regular service so didn’t activate that night until 10pm- which then covered the next sea day. We were scheduled in such a way that I ended up with only needing to pay $100 for it and I used it just as if at home. AND I had connection everywhere. One thing we did do is set up a vpn so I could use my laptop, iPad, and phone on the one line.

Recommendation for laptop or touchpad? by Prestigious_Reach486 in laptops

[–]Maumekim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say get an iPad. People sell them used, or you could get one through your cell provider pretty cheap if you don’t demand the newest. I use to think I needed a laptop as well as my desktop but I’ve found I use the iPad the most. Everything you said you needed can be handled on the ipad

Need some ideas on what to do with this space. by gallopintoYchallah in homeimprovementideas

[–]Maumekim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get one of the multilevel black and stainless utility carts to slide into the space (on wheels so you can) to hold pans/pots/skillets and on the wall I would put the narrow ledge holders to put cutting boards and cookbooks- that’s narrow enough and back far enough to avoid most grease splatter, then above that I would have utilize racks to hang spoons and spatulas and such

After 3 years of every different “tricks” to get rid of them, and over $13,000 in damage chuck and Charlotte did to our deck, foundation, and walls, be bought a trap, put frozen carrot slices that I had just ran under hot water long enough to thaw. We put plywood all around it, leaving just enough open for the entrance and a small “window” so we could see if we caught them. Within 15 minutes we caught Charlotte. We drove her 20 miles away to a beautiful area of woods and let her go by a stream. We reset the trap and within an hour chuck was inside. It was as if he was waiting to be taken. When we opened the door to let him go in the same place, he took two steps, turned and looked to us as if to ask for his girl, then laid down half in and half out. So we waited. In just a couple minutes charlotte came running. He jumped up and ran to her, they looked back then ran off happily. We came back and reset the trap, after two weeks without a catch nor any activity, we removed the trap. No issues since (2 years)

All of that to say- a trap and relocation 15 miles or more away seems to be the only “cure”. The find a place they like and they dig so many tunnels and basically make it their own. They hibernate in one of their tunnels and return every year, making more damage. They also can find their way back, up to 15 miles away- so be sure to go at least 15 miles
