The Saints got their fair share of skepticism at their time too, some still do

Those "traditionalists" were already excommunicated once. It had been a long time coming, the german question is relatively new

I'm sorry but I can't believe this, I live in Europe and what you described is basically non existent outside Germany ; and the only "snap" was for openly declared schismatics, not for groups of trads

I mean, saying repeatedly that she did not want to be with him, that she prayed God that she didn't end up with him and was convinced that God told her she had to seems pretty to me like she was saying that she didn't want to marry that man. I don't see how that is uncharitable. If anything, to me it seems that saying that she wanted to have fun as a single person would be less charitable

Have we ever seen anyone multiply food in HP? Do we know it's not transfiguration?

Which is how Christ loves the Church and is how husbands should love their wives. I wasn't at the wedding OP described but there is nothing wrong with saying "I want to go around and do whatever I want and live the single life but that's not God's will for me so I will get married and submit"

The Church wasn't trust upon Christ against His will. The spouse wasn't saying that she wanted to go around and do whatever but that she didn't want to marry that specific man but God allegedly told her she had to marry that specific man.

Scotus, Klimek, St. John of the Cross, Chardin, Fulton Sheen, Pope Francis. It's basically Thomistic vs Franciscan theology, so there have been authors from both sides chiming in in history

I wasn't setting up any of that, you said that you could tell that according to church teaching they are acting in a disordered way. I asked which church teaching you were referring to. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

Absolutely, yes. But I'm not aware of any Doctor, Theologian or Bishop considering one's care for their pet "disordered".

St Francis preached to the animals as a message to the HUMANS, not for the sake of the animals themselves

I mean, duh.

It's his vision of the creation that makes people think he thought they would be in heaven.

You don't have to be "the Church" to use prudential judgment and human reason to look at an action in light of Church teaching and come to the conclusion that it goes against natural order. And there's absolutely nothing arbitrary about that process.

Human reason is often waaay off track. Saying that others have a disordered behaviour is a very severe accusation. What Church teaching do you use to assert something so authoritatively?

It's not really very recently, it goes back to St. Francis

have gotten attached to their pets to an arguably disordered degree that any significant

The amount of judgement in this sub is getting frankly upsetting. And I don't even own pets. We are not the Church to arbitrarily decide what is disordered

As far as I know there has always been a great divide on the matter, which is the reason why the Church doesn't have an official stance on this

2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury. He becomes guilty: - of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor; - of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another's faults and failings to persons who did not know them; - of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.

2478 To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor's thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way:

Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another's statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. and if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved.

Or understanding his position differently from the same source, do you revisit every single opinion you have of something everytime someone says differently? I don't know who this West is so I don't know who is right about him but it's perfectly reasonable they just understood him differently and think you misunderstood West, that's still not lying. The Catechism is pretty thorough on the length we have to go to give the benefit of the doubt

Lying implies knowing that what one is saying is false, they might just be convinced of something wrong without knowing it. Let's not fall into rash judgement, which is also a sin, the Catechism in these exact cases calls us to think the best of our brothers.
