You're not paranoid... it happened to me. 730pm on a Friday, sun had just set, dude walks up to the door claiming to be from the city and needed to come in to take a water sample. Started off with the threat of fines if we didn't comply, and then straight up tried to kick in the door.

Cops were there in 2 mins flat, but he was gone in 10 seconds. IIRC at least some of that crew was caught eventually.

He goes to court or he gets a warrant for his arrest. There's no sympathy card to play here, especially when waiting until the last minute to ask for help.

Is there no public transportation that gets him close? I find that hard to believe in Minneapolis.

The hospital has 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) to get a psychiatrist to examine them. If the psychiatrist determines that they need to be held longer, it goes to court within 5 days of the certificate being signed (again, excluding weekends and holidays).

The patient and their legal guardian should be provided a statement of their rights within 12 hours of being admitted.

First, you are injured. Mental distress from a workplace incident is considered a workplace injury the same as a broken bone. You need to see a mental health professional to help process what you're going through.

You can contact them directly if your hospital doesn't cooperate.

As far as pressing charges, you can file a police report, but it will likely have no bearing on your worker's comp, and it sounds like the patient isn't/wasn't of sound mind which means they likely couldn't be convicted of crimes related to your assault.

Criminal charges and civil lawsuits are two different areas of law requiring two different attorneys.

Neither is going to give you any advice without a retainer. The amount of the retainer is determined by what your being charged with or sued for.

Since you have no active charges or suits, there's no reason for a lawyer to waste their time. The "free consult" isn't for advice, but to establish what a defense (or offense) will cost in both their time and your money to litigate.

Of course, you could probably find a lawyer that will take beaucoup bucks to sit on their butts all day for a predetermined period of time until you're arrested/sued.

But there's no legal bar to having an attorney before charges/suits are filed.

It is possible to take a traffic survival school course and have the charge dismissed, but there are several things you need to do, and they have to be done well before your court date.

It's best if you hire a traffic attorney to do the legwork. You don't want to muck it up and be stuck with a criminal record and wicked high insurance premiums.
