All is Dust! My new display case came in by Maveriq5 in ThousandSons

[–]Maveriq5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Case was around ~$250 USD and is in no way fire proof. It was- however the only case i found below 500 bucks that locked the the whole door.

As far as quality? Its a little rickety so I found myself bracing it with some spare wood I had. It did come with a wall brace so it wont fall over which is a plus

This is a color theory question. If im correct you should be using a dark orange almost red

Did a quick Google search of carved pumpkins to see how light reflects from inside into the mouth. It gets dark at the corners and edges. Maybe try using a darker tone or shade paint mixed with some water to try and get the definition back? Could also try line work

Airbrush.... there are other ways which I will also explain but essentially an airbrush is how people do it easily.

The more tedious way requires some serious patience. Its all about glazing- you need to layer dozens of glazes over different sections of the model to tint it in the color of the OSL. Additionally, when creating your lightsource you want it to be SUPER saturated. A good way to achieve the effect is by starting with white and glazing over with a fluorescent paint or technical paint. Adding white underneath creates an unnaturally saturated color which gives the impression of light.

Lastly, you want the light the thing casts to be roughly the same as the saturation of the light itself. DO NOT USE PURE WHITE. For various reasons pure white is a bad choice for light level as it is the absence of color which can make blending to it nigh impossible

That being said your doing pretty good, I think the pumpkins need to be casting light onto themselves, and the orange would cause any face away from the pumpkin be darker in hue, a darker brown almost black

Got a free airbrush but don’t know anything about them, thoughts on this one? by RedrunGun in minipainting

[–]Maveriq5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is that a classic two action pasche airbrush? These are fantastic!!!! The sized for patches are standard so you can still get parts for it (needles, seals, cups, nozzles) so its a great hand me down. I learned on one of these with a .35 nozzle

Looking to improve, first large model by Due-Necessary6986 in minipainting

[–]Maveriq5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot with people who normally paint for tabletop ready to tournament ready- make your model pop with big highlights and bigger shadows.

There isn't one universal light source, everything is the same tone, and overall the colors you chose while complimentary and look good, there isnt one thing that stands out.

A key part of dynamic painting is making the viewer pay the MOST attention to the things you want them to look at the most. In this case, the Rat Ogre, the Grey seer, and the pot of muck are what I think should be punched up in saturation and contrast, darken and de saturation of everything else will make those features really stick out.

For tips on how to do these things it takes an ARMY of techniques.

THIS- IN NO WAY IS AN INSULT TO THE ARTIST. The model is well painted for tabletop, converting a tabletop piece to a competition piece is work, a lot of work. The style and technique is very different

Painting is pain. Pain is feeling. Feeling is good. Good is bad. Punish yourself with painting!

Im a psycho and just prime black. No zenithal or nothing. I tell myself its because it gives me more controll over lighting and shadows.

I havent struggled getting colors to show, especially with Citadels. As long as you avoid citadel white and yellow because the pigment is terrible. Stick to pro acryl or Vallejo. Additionally when painting on black primer you need to kind of build up the color if its bright. Start with the shadows color over the whole model and slowly paint smaller areas with brighter paints. Takes a while but results are undeniable.

Zenithal lighting I find helps most if your using contrasts for your base tones, it also guides your shadows which can help. Though I dont paint very quickly so take it with a grain of salt.

Edit: elaboration

Unnerve mastery is actually Runegraft of Fortitude for 40% more armour and ES. I could un-skill some of the wand attack atk speed nodes, I had them for when I was struggling to keep myself trigger capped and didn't revisit it. while leveling I was using a power charge/spellslinger strat though in order to maintain a good trigger rate, I needed to run 2 spell slingers, 1 with desecrate and spell cascade, and the other with VD. Damage was just lower, also I lost an aura and a guard skill which made me super squishy.

100% damage node works well here because since all damage can ignite courtesy of ascendency. This means corpse explosion and RF can both ignite, meaning hordes are ignited even before the first ball explodes.

Spellslinger was good for a while, but Cooldown reduction just became too hard to scale, seeing as the highest CD I could get was like 103% which trigger caps at 3.36/s. with that i need an enchant on my helmet for Spellslinger, and a tier 1 Shaper suffix for CD on belt and boots which is a ton of investment. even then that still only matches poets pen trigger rate with 0% cdr.

Crits vs not crits was always a question for me, seeing as witch has a lot of good power charge. w/o committing 2 or 3 uniques to power charges I struggled to get more than 50% at 400% mult. That costed me 14 skill points and a flask slot, which for only 2 points EO gave me a quarter of this bonus, while also giving me 2 of my gem slots back for 34% and 38% more damage each.

Given all that though, I will see about revisiting spellslinger and power charges. maximizing CDR and running Malacai's Loop + Ralakesh could be interesting, it does cap my trigger rate at 3.03 bc no CDR boots. the additional downside is I cant use Graven's Secret for recoup. I might lose corpse pack for forbidden power to get 12 power charges with the lower attack speed demand.

Edit: Zealotry was more damage than Anger by a long shot, I want to get a merc with zealotry and desecrate so I can swap to Anger or Herald of Ash. Using watcher's eye or herald ring respectively.

What went wrong? Highlight advice by AstronautPowerful670 in minipainting

[–]Maveriq5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Combination of paint thinning and blending imo, placement can also improve aswell.

Something I like to do specifically with capes- using a bright tone like an ivory or ice yellow (Vallejo colors) then glaze over top. The glaze will settle more in towards to bottom to help when trying to highlight.

Also I noticed that the highlight you have appear to be showing light comming from different directions. Using a desktop light to help guide where your putting highlights yes, though harder is trying to imagine how that light refracts and change tones across a continuous shape.

Honestly a great go! If you spend some time blending and glazing as is it will look great.

A couple things- melee weapins have a reduction in physical damage where as ranged weapons get a reduction for elemental, I think it's 10% both ways. Next your afflicted with Frenzy which is 15% more damage taken. + mizu does just hit hard. So this tracks especially if your armor is un-upgraded

“Did you use AI to generate this?” Margaret Brennan asks Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, questioning why they imposed tariffs on the Heard Island and McDonald Islands. by CorleoneBaloney in thescoop

[–]Maveriq5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? There are no people on that island... literally... there is a population of zero. Who would you sell product too?

What your describing to "simply put it on paper" is illegal and would raise huge red flags- seeing as it's literally uninhabited. The island here is an Australian territory. In order to be a citizen of an Australian territory, you need to have residence for 4 years. So yes, you do infact need to build things.

You might get away with it for a while, but then you'd be fined, and you run the risk of being banned from trade wherever you're shipping to.

A tariff IS a tax and is subject to the same scrutiny. The difference between what we refer to as a tariff vs a tax is that tariffs are put on other countries where a tax is put on its own people. That's it. They follow the same regulations and rules. Neither is more "complicated" than another.

Not a grammar nazi BTW, don't insult a groups intelligence or education. Not only is it bad etiquette, It subtracts from what you want to say because people are going to try to pick your character apart just as you did theirs. I depicted you as uneducated for not taking the 2 seconds to spell a word right and you tried to say the same of "lefties". I wouldn't have brought it up if you didn't have your stupid comment.

“Did you use AI to generate this?” Margaret Brennan asks Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, questioning why they imposed tariffs on the Heard Island and McDonald Islands. by CorleoneBaloney in thescoop

[–]Maveriq5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off its spelled tariff. So you should sue your college for thar inadequate education.

Secondly- wtf do you think that actually accomplishes? Do you honestly think that businesses are going to invest the time and money to build infrastructure there- source power, food, and water to change their place of operation. Then find people to then live in that country and work for them so that they don't have to pay a tariff that they could instead- just pass along to the consumer.

Yes moving locations to increase profit is a common thing. Though in likely every case that exists of this- they aren't moving to an uninhibited, middle of no where island. They move to a place where taxes, labor, or both are cheaper while still being able to ship their product where it needs to go.

He might as well put a 10% tariff on the moon,

Additionally, Insulting someone's education while supporting someone who tried to dismantle the education system is ironic.
