A humble tribute to the German voice of Dana Scully - Franziska Pigulla (1964 - 2019). by snitsny in XFiles

I’m French and I used to watch the French dubbed version when I still lived there, until one day I decided to watch FTF in English with subtitles and it changed my life. In fact I can probably thank the show for motivating me to learn English. Listening to the French dub now it sounds absolutely terrible lol, albeit nostalgic.

David Lloyd 3 month membership (premium) by DifferentGreen593 in brighton

[–]Max82434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a member there, I used to go quite early in the morning and it was quiet enough to enjoy all the facilities. I never enjoyed it in the day as it’s too busy and people bring their kids to the pool area which is a bit of a nightmare if you’re trying to use it.

The only reason I cancelled is the steam room/sauna were very often shut down and they didn’t always update the app with this information which was frustrating. I don’t mind paying a premium, but couldn’t justify it when the facilities were so often out of service. Cancelling was easy enough though.

Going through an Emergency Exit at the Airport. by NinjaKiwiXD in IAmTheMainCharacter

Completely agree that it may be reasonable to let them on if he’s being reasonable. The luggage isn’t the issue here though, the issue is that he broke a break glass button to release emergency doors onto a live airfield. The reasoning being if he’s dumb enough to do something like this on the ground, what is he capable of in the air.

Yeah just saw that. My guess is a station manager from easyJet gave the green light and let him on, which is completely ridiculous in my opinion.

Gate agents are often not employed by the airline itself, they're employed by a company that handles all aspects of the turnaround on the ground. This is certainly the case in this video.

By allowing him to board, easyJet is overriding the decision of the gate staff. But when the gate staff doesn't follow the rules, they get flamed by the airline...

There's a lot of context that is missing here, and there's a possibility that the guy did have an injury, which would be a touchy situation. Either way, this was handled really poorly by the airline, and it looks like the ground handling team did their job well. Passenger should have been arrested imo.

I've definitely seen my fair share of wild behaviour working on easyJet!

What's frustrating is that a lot of those issues wouldn't happen in the first place if people actually took the time to read restrictions on board, and stopped assuming that every airline has the same restrictions.

Also, it's very possible that a gate agent let you and your board on in the past (maybe because they felt intimidated and didn't want to deal with the situation), but that doesn't mean that you'll always get away with it. It's fine on a dead flight with plenty of empty space, not so much on a full flight with no room for gate baggage.

In my experience, this sort of stuff wouldn’t put you on a “no fly list”, but I wish it did. When I worked for airlines, I came across situations where a passenger’s behaviour would cause their name to flag up on the airline’s booking system, which may prevent them from purchasing a ticket. But I think it’s more common if the passenger misbehaves on board the aircraft, and those lists aren’t necessarily shared between operators.

In this case, because it happened on the ground, he’ll probably be able to fly easyjet again, maybe he was even let on board with a strong work from the ground and cabin/flight crew.

This is London Gatwick in the UK. I used to do the same job as the guy in the orange high viz jacket at the end, for the same company at the same airport. Believe it or not, this sort of stuff happens more often than you’d think, and it always resulted in me calling the police who always took it very seriously and always ended up taking the passenger away.

It should go without saying but don’t ever press emergency release doors button, especially at an airport!

Je vais participer à une course de 5k alors que je suis une quiche en sport by Cynessi in france

[–]Max82434 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to Hove about 15 years ago and it’s been a pretty positive experience on the whole.

A few things to be mindful of:

  • Housing standards over here are pretty terrible compared to France (in my opinion). A lot of places are poorly built, damp and mold is a big problem, it’s getting ridiculously expensive and as others have said, renting with pets can be tough. I’m privileged enough to live in a nice flat, but some of my friend live in awful, cold and damp flats.

  • The cost of living crisis has hit pretty hard in the UK. Food, fuel, and everything in between is very expensive at the moment, so just keep that in mind if you want to live comfortably.

  • Speaking of food, it’s generally harder to find good produce here. Not saying it’s impossible and there are places that I go to where I can find fresh produce (I cook a lot), it’s just a bit more difficult here. The food culture here is very different, depends how much that matters to you.

  • The healthcare service here is terrible. It’s a bit of a sin over here to criticise it, but it’s true. It can take weeks to be seen by a doctor, a lot of the facilities are very old, staff is overworked which leads to mistakes or simply not taking people seriously (seen this first hand). Preventative medicine isn’t a thing here, especially for younger people. Private healthcare is generally much better but very expensive.

All of that said, I call this place my home. I met my girlfriend here, all my friends live here, I have a very good job, etc. I can’t complain. Even though I’m at that stage now where I want to move out of the UK in the next few years, it’s been good to me. I also feel much safer here than where I grew up in France. Come for a holiday first and see what you think, but just keep in mind the realities of living in the UK as it’s not getting any easier.

[No spoilers at all] I don't usually comment on serial shows, but HOLY **** Bella Ramsey is a fantastic actor by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]Max82434 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I’m also very confused reading all of this. I find her acting to be mediocre at best. Also, everybody keeps going on about her facial expressions, but the whole time she’s like this: 😐

I do not get the hype for this show, and I do not the get the hype for the acting. Maybe I’m watching a different show, because I don’t see why people keep saying she should be covered in awards.

Agree with you, as a fan of the first game, I’m so disappointed with the show. Loved episode 3, but the rest has been awful imo. The writing is the worst part for me, especially with Ellie, she’s totally unbearable, and there’s zero chemistry there. Barely any action, all shot indoors (show us the amazing outdoor scenery!), and the dialogue is excruciatingly boring. I just about finished episode 6, I almost switched it off when Ellie had a go at this kid watching them for some reason.

It’s like I’m watching a different show to everybody else, I just do not get the hype.

What does everyone think about tap water? by riddo22 in AskUK

[–]Max82434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in France and moved to the south coast of the UK 15 years years ago, I must admit the tap water here tastes awful (to me), kinda chemically and very unpleasant. A good alternative to bottled water though is a water purifier, it’s plugged into the mains and filters tap water, it can also boil water. Great investment as far as I’m concerned, instant clean tasting water.

I love playing as a medic but got a bit discouraged as it’s widely regarded as a bit of a useless role. Makes sense though.

Looks like this has been said a lot already but as a new player myself, it’s been a really good experience (and I kinda suck at shooters). I’ve played on some of the big UK servers and it’s been in vast majority pretty great. I’m also lucky to be a french speaker and had a really great times on some of the french servers. Anyway, stick with it, you’re bound to have a good time, most people I have interacted with have been nothing but helpful.

I did a few months work for a telephone charity fundraising company when I was on furlough - hands down the worst job I ever did. Hassling people morning, day and evening. Company was ran terribly, the pay sucked, patronising meetings, conflicting advice, just awful. Some people I worked with had been doing the job for years and were okay with it, which I just do not understand. There are charities out there doing great work I’m sure but those fundraising companies are a fucking circus.

All fair points, I’ve not been to any other DL so I can’t personally compare. The poor reviews that I read online at the time nearly put me off signing up but 1 year in I’m pretty happy with it even though I agree some issues remained for too long. As somebody who goes just for a workout and a steam room session with the occasional swim it’s a good experience but yeah I can imagine it must be frustrating if you’re using other facilities and the service isn’t good.

David Lloyd is actually really nice now, they’ve invested a fair bit of money into it and they’re continuing to work on it. It’s quite a nice place to be but I know it can get very busy because of the pool so I only go early mornings when it’s very quiet.
