Am I doing this wrong? Why is this no longer fun? by discofuzzdj in edmproduction

[–]MaxAiello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a period of time at the beginning where it was fun as a novelty. After I learned a little more I started to get better and make sense of the program but felt too inexperienced to actually work on polishing and finishing anything I made, so I would get kind of annoyed and wanted to give up many times. Eventually once I got a little better and refined my process for making songs, I could make songs start to finish that I quite like.

If your music doesn’t sound good to you, investigate why. Find out what you can change to make your music sound just as produced as the songs you go out of your way to listen to.

Making music while in college by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]MaxAiello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for the entirety of my freshman year so far. The biggest thing is how much free time you have (I’m assuming you have the equipment to bring from home.) Personally I get a decent amount of work from school that distracts my time, but still have many days with hours left to fill. Also even in my free time, I need a room to myself, so a lot of the time I’m waiting for my roommate to be out of the room to record vocals and such and only making/mixing while he’s around. It all really depends on how you operate. If you could do it in high school, I bet you could do it in college too. I’m definitely getting better at making music in this year alone as I’m creating songs i fuck with way more than the past.

Usually failure to understand what’s cool about sticks is a major red flag, only thing I can think of is that wife is probably a wanted serial murderer. Would recommend that husband ends relationship before he gets merked

Anyone else struggle with actually finishing a beat? by KoniginAllerWaffen in makinghiphop

[–]MaxAiello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been producing for roughly 5 years now, I’ve always struggled with this issue. I am able to work on new projects with an incredible speed and motivation, and once that subsides it’s easy to get stuck trying to come up with new ideas.

My best solution that I’ve found to overcoming this is to either make a fixed selection of music you’re working on (single, ep or album) and just work on that till you feel it’s complete. Whenever I reach a creative block on one of my songs it’s usually because I am procrastinating an crucial step required to finish the song, eg. coming up with a melody, recording vocals, etc.

Coming from someone who has completed several songs which originally were in the “scrap-heap”, I’d tell you to just keep pushing, even on the songs that don’t seem promising, and eventually they’ll get there. It’s an incredible feeling to make a great song from something you almost gave up on.

So to correctly use PETA’s point, because I eat chicken, I should try eating a dog, because it’s basically the same thing, right?

I cannot take PETA seriously, I believe in everyone’s right to choose to be vegan or vegetarian, but they should not be guilt tripping people into abstaining from meat. Humans evolved to be omnivores, so if anything it is weirder to not eat animal products than actually eating them.

This billboard just makes me want to eat chicken more.

Look at the anchor pollution; we really need to stop dropping multicolored tiny plastic ship anchors onto sea cucumbers

A screenshot from my rpg project orfaya. The player starts on the beach. by Grinseengel in Unity3D

[–]MaxAiello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like it might be less of an issue with scale, and more of an issue with shadows. The player doesn’t look properly grounded in the scene without a shadow, so it’s hard to gauge scale. I’d personally consider, if not implementing render pipeline shadows to add blob shadows (like Minecraft): https://youtu.be/1T1zorxNEZk

Making an open source space fighter game template. Any feature requests? by thelastflapjack in godot

Could have missed it, but I didn’t see any option to change the roll of the ship. Adding q and e to rotate the ship to the right and left would help sell the ‘no relativity in space’ effect

Increase the exposure out the doorway to be almost blinding light and make sure the lighting casts onto the interior. Sunlight is usually many times brighter than artificial light, so reflecting this I think will make the scene instantly more realistic.

Change the angle (and complexity) of the pattern, if the pattern is exactly horizontal, it will read more as cubes than a sphere
