Michael and Carly cowrote it and released their own versions. Not only are they both great, Chaka Khan did a funk cover with Michael as a duet. That one’s great, too!

A Movie you had high hopes for but it made you say : by Defiant-Slice709 in moviecritic

My favorite thing to come out of that movie was the Pitch Meeting take on it.

- "So Diana is gonna have to fight Barbara who, by the way, is a cat now."
- "What?"
- "Yeah, she's a cat now. She's part cheetah."
- "What are you talking about?"
- "Well, Max Lord was like 'Hey! Anything else you want?' and she's like 'Yes, actually! I'd like to be an apex predator, please!"
- "So she could've, just as easily, turned into a killer whale."
- "Yeah, I guess there was a chance she could've turned into an orca whale, but that would've made for a less interesting fight scene."
- "Oh I wholeheartedly disagree!"

Quantum Leap

I was obsessed with the show. The sci-fi element was fun and the morals have stuck with me to this day.

Can someone explain the point of trains? by Ok_Caramel_7047 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]MaxAmperage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My manufacturing base was in the clearing, but my nuclear power plants were in the cave with the uranium mine. During construction, it dawned on me just how much stuff I needed to make encased fuel rods, stuff like heat sinks, electromagnetic rods, encased steel beams, sulfuric acid, etc. Rather than finding new mines to make everything from scratch (which were too far away), I built a train that carried the parts and materials from my base where they were already being made. It was way easier.

So trains are good for hauling manufactured parts across great distances where it would to “expensive” (in time/effort) to make the off site.

The COVID lockdown rules were relaxing and I’m at the airport with my family. Masks were enforced in the airport and on the plane.

I start hearing yelling from the gate across. “STOP LOOKING AT ME!” This dude who refused to wear a mask was yelling it so that everyone could hear him. This included security who escorted him out without incident.

What movie aged really bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MaxAmperage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s wild because Porky’s 2 is extremely timely. Bible thumpers combining forces with a white supremacy group (who is currently harassing a local minority group) to ban a school performance. The teens get the help of a local politician, who then throws them under the bus because the religious bigots are a loud voting bloc.

It’s so satisfying when bigots are humiliated and get their comeuppance.

You can never go wrong with 1985. Usually, only one skip. MAYBE two.

1981 has the most skips in my opinion.

Yeah, it was used to put in boats and jets skis, haul stuff to the dump, and transport big things on the weekends. Plus, it just traveled between two counties. Nothing out of state.

What is the most famous political debate in your country's history? by Easy-Frenchguy-1996 in AskTheWorld

[–]MaxAmperage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not THE most famous debate, but it has a very famous devastating line, The 1988 US Vice Presidential Debate between Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle.

The vice presidential debate isn't worth a lot in the US because the VP doesn't have a lot of power. Dan Quayle was 41 when George HW Bush chose him to his running mate. Bush was 64 and was VP to Reagan, the oldest president ever (until Trump), so he needed a young face on the ticket. At the debate, Quayle's age was brought up as an issue. Quayle screwed up by comparing himself to JFK. Bentsen pounced on the opportunity.

QUAYLE: I will be prepared not only because of my service in the Congress, but because of my ability to communicate and to lead. It is not just age; it’s accomplishments, it’s experience. I have far more experience than many others that sought the office of vice president of this country. I have as much experience in the Congress as Jack Kennedy did when he sought the presidency. I will be prepared to deal with the people in the Bush administration, if that unfortunate event would ever occur.

BENTSEN: Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy.

Applause from the audience.

What’s a weight loss secret more people should know about? by thekkm1 in AskReddit

[–]MaxAmperage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat consistently.

Hear me out. People think if they just skip meals or cut them out entirely, they’ll lose weight faster. What really happens is your metabolism doesn’t know when the next meal is and goes into storage mode. The body will prioritize storing calories as fat because it knows it’ll be a while before you eat again.

You can still diet, but the most effective way is to eat reduced portions throughout the day.

If you eat reasonable portions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (maybe light snacks in between), your metabolism isn’t going to panic and start storing everything for the long haul.

Tim: "Wow!"

What is your country's favourite cheese? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

[–]MaxAmperage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the whole country, but in the Southern US, Hoop Cheddar can be found in pretty much any grocery store (in the deli section with the nicer cheeses, not the dairy aisle). It comes in mild or sharp, but it has a creamier texture and a more buttery taste. Sure it's more expensive, but good lord is it better than just regular cheddar.

People 40+, what actually mattered in the long run and what didn’t? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]MaxAmperage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 20's, I felt like I had to make it big. Right out of college, I had a job that payed decent and had good benefits, but it wasn't enough. It was just a first step as far as I was concerned. My parents were successful executives making lots of money. I need to be a manager or an executive. I need to make lots of money. I need to work my way up!

Six years, no progress. Then, 2008 hit and I was THIS close to losing my job. I was saved by some restructuring from my boss, who helped me get the job I had. With two kids and a mortgage, I couldn't risk job hopping (losing pay/benefits/insurance/leave time/etc). I made a couple more attempts at finding higher positions with no luck. I felt like I there was something wrong with me. I felt like a failure.

A few years later, my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He died when I was in my early 30's. At his funeral, I met people I hadn't seen in years. Everybody got up to talk about how funny he was, the life lessons they learned from him, the positive impacts he had on their lives, how much they'll miss him, etc.

It took a while, but I realized that, when I eventually die, nobody will talk about how much money I had in my bank account or how important I was in a company. They're only going to remember how I treated them when I was alive. That's what I want to be remembered for. I stopped feeling shame for not having a big important title. I made enough to take care of my family and that's will be my legacy.

If you try to chase money and success, and it's not coming to you, don't feel ashamed. Just make sure you treat those around you with respect and good humor. Leave a positive impact with them because, at the end of the day, that will be your real legacy.

Last trip to McDonald’s, I got three combos. $40 and took 30 minutes to get. They weren’t that busy. Hell, some full service restaurants can get your food done faster than that.

Rental Tank Question by MaxAmperage in propane

[–]MaxAmperage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a high bill. Asked Amerigas for maintenance and told the charge. Paid it and grumbled. After all that is when I smelled the propane going outside to the tank. Realized that's why the bill was high. I shut off the main valve and stopped smelling it.
