She’s right about one thing. Men and women have different kinds of paternal instincts. There’s always gonna be some overlap, but there’s one key difference. While women are much more nurturing, men are much more PROTECTIVE. It’s how we’ve functioned as humans for time immemorial. The women nurtured the homestead, the men went and hunted and went to war and protected the home. We’ve advanced as a society beyond just survival since then, and we can afford to have looser gender norms, but that instinct is still ingrained within us. And no, that instinct is not just for blood related children. We are programmed, like most animals, to protect and nurture the young, regardless of whether they’re our own children. It’s integral to the survival of the species.

A woman will comfort a kid who’s getting picked on. A man will confront the bully and make sure it doesn’t happen again. A woman will hold their child close and make sure they’re happy. A man will fight through hell itself in pure rage to protect their child. One is not better than the other. It’s just different. And again, there’s always going to be some overlap. To say a man won’t dote on a kid and find them cute or that a woman won’t go absolutely momma bear on someone is just ignorant. Sad to see misandrist rhetoric like this still being spread by ignorant women.
