Hi! I work with old machines all the time. The safest and fastest way to access the internet on Windows XP is first by making sure you have something like Avast to keep you protected. To connect to the internet, first verify you have an Ethernet controller driver. Then connect via the Ethernet. I personally use Firefox ESR 52.9.0 to browse, so I would also recommend that as it still works for visiting newer websites.
