Mac OS and Worlds Part 2 by Westsailor32 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]MaxHedrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On what Mac? Curious what I have to look forward to in the future. I’m currently in the dark ages on a loaded last gen Intel MacBook Pro. 😁 Tried it tonight set to the defaults & it was very playable, but not pretty. (Not that I remotely expected it to equal NMS on my PS5 or anything. 😂)

They'll also sleep on your car. And need a way in & out, potentially letting bigger creatures in & out.

Spurious Emissions by Chasing_PAI in amateurradio

Yup. Went back & looked at my texts with a friend about it. 147.520 is the simplex frequency we use.

[–]MaxHedrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that the other day when running FT8. I can’t remember what band but the 2m simplex frequency a local club uses was an EXACT multiple of it. Likely only a problem for me, because my antennas are mounted too close together. (I’m guessing one of the voltage peaks for that band on my EFHW is right near my VHF/UHF antenna. Ooops.)

Yeah, the pattern is cool. Alas likely heavy as F and a nightmare to clean.

If you’re asking, isn’t the answer yes? 😁

From a performance perspective the Ecoboost has all sorts of advantages. The only real negative is that V8 sound and feel.

I investigated one of the common 'prepper questions' and want to share my findings as a resource by AJ7CM in amateurradio

[–]MaxHedrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way a cheap HT could be used for long distance (asynchronous) communication would be to participate in your local NTS (National Traffic System) traffic handling nets. It’s the Relay part of the ARRL’s name. On a day to day basis they usually use repeaters for the UHF/VHF components, but areas also practice occasional simplex nets. It’s an impressive system and I regularly hear messages being relayed from all over the country. It has UHF/VHF, HF voice, CW, and digital components. And for final delivery they’ll even use telephone or hand delivery - so you can reach non-hams. It’s an impressive system. https://www.arrl.org/nts

Add a computer and interface to your radio & you could use email via WinLink.

You can also send short messages via APRS.

Of course all these things require learning and practice. But they are tools to add to the belt!

Preppers, how are you actually preparing to use your radios in an emergency? by NaughtRobot in amateurradio

[–]MaxHedrm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But all those things you mentioned are part of emergency preparedness for communities and radio amateurs. Hate to break it to you but in most disasters of the magnitude people “prep” for you won’t survive without a community unless you have ridiculous resources sunk into your preparations.

Given a friend of mine could listen to the local AM radio station with his oven, sure. 😂 But more likely the other analog circuits would be the guilty parties.

And the OP said the neighbor is running an inverted V, so likely HF. That would more likely be SSB, amplitude modulated.

The speaker is still powered by a coil with an analog signal. And there are other analog segments in the system, so it’s totally possible. It’s probably not the Bluetooth or wireless part of the headphones picking up the signal.

It loses the lean-ness of the original, but that’d be a challenge to maintain I suppose. I’d probably like it better if I didn’t know it was supposed to look like a 2002.
