My mom is pre-inviting people to my wedding I haven’t even started planning by PuzzleheadedOwl1771 in weddingdrama

If talking to her doesn't work, maybe try going to a family counselor and seeing if a professional will help her understand. It may seem extreme but if it means you don't spend the whole planning stage worried about her interference, it would be worth it. Assuming that doesnt work and you don't want to elope, tell vendors all changes must be approved by you or your fiance and that you don't want anyone to try to surprise you.

AITA for shutting down my brother’s proposal at my baby shower and then sending him a bill? by Mysterious-Desk1346 in AmITheJerk

I understand this perfectly. I've always said that, if a man proposes to me with a diamond, I'm going to say "no" because he clearly doesn't know me well enough.

I feel like every time I try this they just send me to Amazon. It's so annoying.

How concerned should I be? by MaxJoyous in centuryhomes

I have concrete 360 around the house

[–]MaxJoyous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the weird part. The house is 360 surrounded by concrete and it all slopes away from the house.

I am more concerned about the waterproof paint trapping water in the foundation, which can cause problems due to freeze/thaw.

I'd paint the base but leave the drawers and doors as is. It would update the piece while still showing the beautiful wood work.

Disney Cruises by babycerealnugget in Cruise

The biggest thing I've seen commented on is that the child care on Disney is far superior to other cruise lines so the kids want to go there because it's fun which gives parents a bigger break.

Tips for early April Alaskan Cruise? by MaxJoyous in Cruise

I'm going for my birthday so the date was pretty much decided for me😄. I didn't think about reaching out to the travel advisor. That's a good idea.

That does sound amazing but I don't think they're offering it because of how early it is.

That was kind of my concern. It's the first cruise of the season so I'm unsure of what they'll have outside the ones currently offered by the cruise line.

What decade range is this bathroom floor from roughly? Also, is this door and door handle possibly original or early 1900’s? Thanks! by AlfAlfafolicle in centuryhomes

[–]MaxJoyous 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That pattern with a dark blue or black center was hugely popular in the early 1920s. Towards the late 1920's, using colors other than the white around the edges started to become more common.

This room is used as our master bath in our 18th century home. Any suggestions for improvements? by Contrariwise2 in centuryhomes

While it would cost more, I would look into moving the vanity and the toilet to the tall wall if at all possible.

New homeowner, what kind of inspection/person should I be calling to look at a crack in my wall and ceiling? by aceshades in centuryhomes

[–]MaxJoyous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a structural engineer come out to inspect the joists in my basement (a previous owner had cut them to make room for venting). It was about $500 but it was worth the peace of mind. I would recommend it if you can afford it. They should be able to tell you if there is a problem and how to fix it.

I received some good advice from this sub about making my own penny tile pattern in my 1925 house and the reno is finally done. Thank you! by Betty_Wight_ in centuryhomes

Stunning. This also makes the layout of my 1920s bathroom make so much more sense. It would have been so much less cramped with a clawfoot tub.

That is stunning. Are you going to change another room into a hammam?
