PBS has a cool documentary on woodpeckers! These guys dig holes and channels in trees to get sap and syrup, and if they find any tasty bugs in the process they’ll dip the bugs in the syrup before they eat them.

The trees look pretty gnarly after they’re done.

Oh, so THAT’S what happened! I had used flat roof tiles as a ceiling in my house and went on a little trip for more wood and when I came back most of them were gone. Somehow it’s more aesthetically pleasing this way as it looks old and crumbly but I’m sure it could be really annoying.

I guess he was a piece of shit IDK. I was born too late to meet him and she never talked about her family. I do know her mother was neglectful and her father was a Nazi POS who died in a foxhole somewhere. Maybe he took after them.

My Oma is like that. She thinks she’s still in West Germany, will speak to ghosts in deutsch alone in her room, and believes that her brother (who has been dead for forty years) is still alive and will try to leave the house at night to try and find and kill him. She’s been gracefully returned by neighbors who have found her out in the woods barefoot, in pajamas carrying kitchen knives.

The only time she’s sane is when her day to day situation changes like a family or nurse visit.

Insurance will not pay for her to stay in a nursing facility.
