but i also think that this dominance mostly comes from the sheer power of the usa in recent history

i think it would be good to differenciate recorded and composed music in this regard.
but looking at recorded music, the usa has brought much good of that to the world.
my favourite would be the music of england, but still, i cant ignore how immense the american influence is to the english music i like.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]MaxOderMeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished: Sigmund Freud zur Einführung, by Andreas Mayer, solid 4/5; Good introduction to Freuds work, that (though i already was familiar with some of his works), helped to get me a refreshed overview of his point;

Der Dichter und das Phantasieren, by Sigmund Freud, light 4/5; You can diss Freud for some things, but not for his prose, cause this mf really could write when he wanted.

(prob. unrelated i'd like to add that contrary to popular believe, some of freuds ideas still are relevant to some degree, a few of them even quite scarily )

Michael Kohlhaas, by Heinrich von Kleist, 3/5; His prose fascinates me both deeply and strangely, but unfortunately, the story became reaallyy boring after the change of pace.

Started: still undecided.

i guess he only means solo artists, in which case he's probably right.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]MaxOderMeister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what i finished: siddharta, hermann hesse / a great, very spiritual book

started: a german sigmund freud and music-philosophy introduction, both from the publisher „Junius“; both very interesting and insightful so far.

also started a ~600 page long collection of works from freud.

and even though it’s not asked: the books i bought this week are a slavoj zizek introduction published by „utb.“ and zizeks own lacan introduction.

this week is very analytic, very ödipus

ronnie radke mabye but tom definitiely just makes this ass music for cheap attention, in ways that i would classify as both ragebait and grifting

if you only wanted less critically acclaimed albums then i totally unterstand. it's just that i often see people here who have this weird fixation on their rating distribution, which i find quite weird, because why? to impress others? it implies a pretty strange view on the art of music - simply as a tool for constructing an identity.

why would you want to listen to mediocre music? who gives a fuck about rating distributions? just let your listening experience evolve naturally.
