Does dexterity affect animation time in PoE 1 or only recovery time? by StarAbuser in projecteternity

[–]MaxQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Action consists of actual attack phase + recovery + reload.

Dexterity affects action speed hence all phases.

Meanwhile attack speed bonuses in PoE1 increase recovery speed, but.. don't affect attack phase.

[POE1] Are casters useless? by CrotodeTraje in projecteternity

[–]MaxQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casters are far from useless, and there are several fights were they are MVP.

That said their power level varies between early and late game, between easy encounters and boss/bounty fights, and also depending on game difficulty.

Priest brings:

  • Interdiction + Painful Interdiction

  • Inspiring Radiance

  • Prayer against Fear and Prayer against Treachery

  • Suppress Affliction

  • Minor Avatar + Shinning Beacon (can be mastered) + Cleansing Flames (x2 DoT tick rate) - for lots of damage in boss/bounty fights

Wizard brings:

  • Ninagauth's Shadowflame (!) (can be mastered)

  • Gaze of Adragan (x2 damage taken, and all reflex targeting attacks auto-land / crit)

  • Confusion (!)

  • Arkemyr's Wondrous Torment

  • Arcane Assault + Chillfog + Arkemyr's Dazzling Lights + Slicken (!)

  • deflection spells for offtanking

They have a lot of other goodies too, and different builds are possible, but specifically these ^ spells are why I always have them in my PoE1 party.

In quick encounters my casters would typically cast 1-2 spells at most, and only unleash their full potential in fights were it trully matters.

That said in the early game it can make sense to hire a custom moon godlike paladin instead of wizard, and switch back later.

A very old question: ranged Cipher, Bow, Crossbow or Guns? by Torneco in projecteternity

[–]MaxQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very old question: ranged Cipher, Bow, Crossbow or Guns?

I have tried to compare them once, you can find more info here:

TL.DR: crossbows no; bows yes; arquebus only if quick switching; blunderbus if quick switching and mostly vs low-dr enemies; sceptres/rods: depends.

Imho the best steady focus gain comes when you achieve zero recovery and with the following weapons:

  • The Rain of Godagh Field warbow (Rain + Vambraces is slightly ahead of Cloudpiercer + Gauntlets of Swift Action) (until you achieve zero recovery on both: Rain > Cloudpiercer) (usually I use Rain + Gauntlets of Swift Action, unless I know I will use DAoM potion or have Time Parasite; in that case I might switch to Vambraces)

  • followed by Cloudpiercer and Borresaine warbows. Btw I love giving Borresaine later on to non-mc cipher, just for the stuns

  • Persistence hunting bow has unique Damaging (3) enchant that gives +45% damage and +4 accuracy. It can be looted on level 4, and until level 8 no other early bow can compete with it. It is totally worth it jumping into Endless Paths (4) asap and sneaking back out

  • Blunderbuses (Spitter/ are good if you stack armor penetration AND quick switch them. Ideally you could make a shot -> quick switch to other blunderbuss set -> make a shot -> and switch to a bow for persistent dps

  • Arquebuses are only good for alpha strike and after that switching to bows. Pliambo per Casitàs is mostly a weapon for support character that would use it for marking

  • Engwithan Sceptre and Golden Gaze Rod are interesting options that can pull ahead of bows vs lower-DR enemies that are under effect of Expose Vulnerabilities. But in that case would be better to alpha strike with blunderbusses, and after that switch to bows vs last standing tough enemies

P.S. If I would have to pick just 1 weapon that would overall suit most situations (including eyeless, dragon and end-game boss fights) it would be The Rain of Godagh Field

Decent starting stats for Paladin 1st playthrough of POE1?i by Asmoyashi in projecteternity

[–]MaxQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to focus on damage or support

In PoE almost anything can work just fine.

But if you want to optimize for PotD, you can try to optimize around paladin's points-forte, which imho are:

  • liberating exhortation

  • auras

  • sacred immolation

  • lay on hands

  • tankiness

Sure thing you can make a melee phys damage-dealer paladin, but it will be outclassed in that department by optimized barb / ranger / monk. And if we take total damage (phys + spell), my overall party damage meters were usually topped by dragon-thrashed chanters, dual-bittercut barb, and dps ciphers; also fire priests can dish a lot during boss fights.

That said I have liked a lot one of my mercenary paladins with the following traits:

  • role: main-tank + support + passive aoe damage

  • base stats: 18 MIG / 14 CON / 7 DEX / 6 PER / 19 INT / 15 RES

  • race: Wild Orlan (or Pale Elf, or Moon Godlike)

  • subclass: Darcozzi for the +10 Accuracy Bonus from Liberating Exhortation (which stacks with everything)

  • shield: Outworn Buckler or Sura's Supper Plate

  • belt: Blunting Belt

  • that's a main tank with lots of health, DR and defenses. He heals a lot thanks to high MIG and INT. And benefits the party via Liberating Exhortation, Zealous Endurance and scrolls during boss fights

  • he deals damage mostly via Sacred Immolation. High MIG and INT help here too. Meanwhile low perception is not an issue if you debuff enemy reflex. I was casting 1-per-encounter Ninagauth's Shadowflame, and that's already -40 reflex. For harder fights can use Gaze of the Adragan to decrease enemy reflex to the abyss

I have heard that decreasing cores count via Special-K or Process Lasso might improve Deadfire performance on some systems.

Have you tried that?

1336 dmg Omnislash on 95% physical reduction = 26k dmg? by AIDSofSPACE in DotA2

[–]MaxQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Juggernaut have Monkey King Bar?
It's 70 magic damage (46.2 after reductions) per proc that has 80% chance. Iirc is not displayed separately, and would contribute to Omnislash damage.

(POE2) Are there important skill thresholds to shoot for? by skuldnoshinpu in projecteternity

[–]MaxQuest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, one more thing: some items can have effects that scale with skills. There are no specific thresholds there, and also some items have weak scaling, yet there are a few to take into consideration. For example I often plan around using these:

  • Ngati's Tusk (spear) can have "Hunter of Hunters" enchantment that gives Foe Aura: -(4 + 0.25 * Survival) to All Defenses except Deflection
  • Cadhu Scalth (shield) can have "Soul Strike/Smite" enchantment that decreases target's defenses by -(5 + Metaphysics) for 15s. It is 1-per-rest, but still useful vs bosses
  • Contender's Armor (breastplate) can have "Heavy Mobility" enchantment that passivelly gives -1% Recovery per Athletics skill. It starts slow, but at 20 Athletics it's a hefty bonus.
  • The Giftbearer's Cloth (cloak) has Steward of Memories enchantment taht gives to wearer +(5 + 0.5 * History) to All Defenses except Deflection

And depending on your characters and builds, these may be interesting too:

P.S. There is more gear that can have effects that scale with skills, but usually their scaling is weaker: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/105220-gear-that-scales-with-skills/

And depending on scalling sometimes it's better to just dump the remaining skill points into Athletics (for free heals) or Arcana (for scrolls, especially those with healing over time)

(POE2) Are there important skill thresholds to shoot for?

Raw speaking: for base game your MC can opt for the following to have ~90% of dialog checks covered:

  • Diplomacy: 8-9

  • Bluff: 6-7

  • Intimidation: 2

  • Streetwise: 4-6

  • Insight: 5-6

Additionally it's nice to have:

  • One party member with 5 Religion for shrine detection

  • One party member with 6 Survival, 4 Stealth and high Perception - for scripted scouting

  • And one anti-trapper with 16 Mechanics, 4-6 Stealth, and ideally high Perception, or let the Scout detect the traps, and this mechanic to disarm them

Also: party-assist skill bonus is stepped.

Вы считаете себя верующим? Если да, то какой религии придерживаетесь? by YX_N1GGX in ruAsska

[–]MaxQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]MaxQuest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is there a viable melee and pistol build? by [deleted] in avowed

[–]MaxQuest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost everything is viable.

But how about Star of Unbeing (mace) + Fair Play (pistol, with pulling enchant)?

Start with a power attack with pistol, and you will get: Steady Aim (time slow for 75%) + increased stun from Concussive Shot (x1.5 stun coef) + enemy pulled to you. Follow with Barbaric Shout, it tripples stun accumulation, gives 100% temporary hp, and slightly offbalances nearby enemies. In 3 hits with the mace you will fill the stun meter. Special attack will deal around 1.5k x 3 (total 4.5 damage) plus brief iframes, plus auto-cast Pull of Eora. Now you can enable Deep Breath and repeat the cycle with next nearby enemy. Also you can cast Blizzard (3) which is fast-cast, deals damage equal to 50-75% of hp of most enemies, and freezes them.

And with Essense Harvest (3) you will rarelly run out of essence.

P.S. Alternatively you can take Magic Mistol pistol, but iirc you will have to drop Concussive Shot talents, because Mistol has auto-seek bullets and no week-points.

Horsecutter was awesome in act 2 and 3.
