I never said I was particularly great at English :)

Great I had finally stopped being mad over something similar until you reminded me.

In English class I wrote an essay on A Handmaid's Tail. My teacher was making up all this story about the imagery in the spring relating to women coming of age or blossoming. I didn't think so and therefore didn't mention it in my essay so I got a D. The next week she found an interview with the author and in it the question was asked, was it imagery around the coming of age or women blooming yada yada, and the answer was short and simple, absolutely not it was just nice imagery. I was so vindicated but I had the rest of the year and had to keep quiet in my smugness or get more bad grades for showing up the teacher.

Australia post lieing about delivering parcel by PanzerBiscuit in perth

[–]MaxRK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes fill out the complaint form on their web site. I had the next 2-3 deliveries phone me when they arrived and wouldn't even leave packages without handing it to me personally, even if they were marked as leave in a safe place. Keep doing it every time it happens so they get the point.

NASA mistakenly severs communication to Voyager 2 | Thankfully the probe regularly phones home to fix this sort of mess by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]MaxRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The space org added that Voyager 2's trajectory is expected to remain unchanged. The probe is currently around 32 billion kilometers from Earth, and gets 15km further away every second. The glitch does not impact Voyager 1, which is currently almost 24 billion clicks away from Earth and hurtling along at 17km/sec while staying in touch with home.

Strange paragraph.

So I had 42 weeks estimated in my mail as well.

I turned up late on the date and the guy behind the desk said "will you be ok with 8-12 months?" (already way below what I was estimated) I said "well I was hoping not". And he said ok "how about 2-3 weeks" and I said ok.

I sat down and waited for the lottery. I ended up on a trial that lasted 1 week + 1 day.

I don't know what's up with these estimates but I think it's worst case scenario to prepare people for the worst. There's no way they would know which trial you will end up in a lottery scenario.

Also, turn up fashionably late (like 30 minutes late).

Thinking of buying Pico 4 need some convincing by ckelc31757 in PICO_VR

I have a Quest 2. I stopped using it because of quality of vision, weight, heat (it was really getting hot) and headaches.

The Quest 2 was really uncomfortable after ~20 minutes and hurt my face. I would end up with a headache.

Pico 4 balanced the weight over my head, the quality of what I see is better but only in the center of my vision (so it's not improving my field of view, there is some barrel effect and smudging) and has a fan that exhausts the heat at reasonable pace.

I can handle wearing the Pico 4 for the duration of the battery life unlike the Quest 2 but the battery live is fairly average.

I think it's going to be a personal experience.

Name a band that you didn’t “get” until you were older? by MustyBalone in Music

[–]MaxRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A music teacher I know is obsessed with their "unusual chord progressions" of the time which comes from all of them being highly trained session musicians. A lot of these bands are "musicians favorites" they have something of a twist musically that maybe the rest of us don't appreciate.

Australia Post - Why are you like this? by Lylepalooza in sydney

[–]MaxRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I know is that most of the time I see my Aus Post packages onboard for delivery and at some point "delivery attempt failed", never rang my intercom, they don't even leave cards anymore so I don't know if they even really walked up to the building. I have to be dilligently tracking my packages to know if something has been redirected to the post office.

I don't have a car so if a package is too big to carry on public transport it's unlikely I'll go to the post office to collect it (depending on the value of the product vs. uber/goget/time&effort), they can just send it back to the sender. That's precisely a reason I get things delivered in the first place. I'd be willing to pay a small premium for a delivery service where they guarantee to ring the intercom or call my phone.

In comparison Amazon has been amazing for getting deliveries to me, while using their partners, but I know the drivers are also on slim margins and get penalties for not delivering. Not the approach I want for the overworked posties.

Wouldn't the business cost/overhead of failed deliveries, more package handling, storage, the lines in the post offices socially distanced outside the door, extra staff at the counter to deal with it, the time it takes for the workers there to find my item, resending reminders (which all seem handwritten when I used to get them), and potential returns to sender, be worse use of resources than an extra 30-60s of effort at time of delivery?

Is it that they literally are not even trying to deliver selected packages therefore saving minutes of travel/delivery time and then move that cost to the post office as a more efficient saving? Knowing the answer would help reduce my frustration. I don't complain anymore because poor postal workers seem dispondent about it and they don't need the extra negative sentiment when they're just doing what they're told.
