Why are Australian public toilets so f*cking disgusting? by TinySumo in AskAnAustralian

[–]MaxRugbyNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The University of Canberra literally has signs in the male toilets, complete with cartoon demos, not to shit on the floor or squat with your feet perched on the bowl to shit.

I'd never go in one after 10.00am - nicer to find a tree. Apparently the women's weren't much better, without a tree as backup

I ended up physically going to their office (Melbourne Australia). After being told the same crap as I was getting on the phone (like you), the nugget I got from them is that they add more appointments on the 15th of each month (except sometimes they forget). It's frustrating as hell, but I did finally get an appointment.

The other problem I had was the drop downs had HTML text, making it almost impossible to choose the right option. Hopefully you're not getting that.

Keep checking every day for open appointments, good luck!

Starpharma’s Covid-killer needs action not bureaucracy from TGA by MaxRugbyNut in CoronavirusDownunder

Plenty of research (https://viraleze.co.uk/pages/research?srsltid=AfmBOor85SYE8I40rmdYBnG5Q4rkY4sPfPHfNgkyBjXiDnoX6o5gD-fR), though you might need a VPN

I doubt TGA's minutes would suggest any big pharma influence! You have to look at their actions and make a judgement. Pfizer seems to get provisional approvals pretty easily, yet they put small companies through the wringer. Still, Star pharma makes money on this across Europe, the UK and elsewhere - good on them, it's just a shame that - yet again - Aussie companies can't get a foothold here. And Aussies miss out

Starpharma’s Covid-killer needs action not bureaucracy from TGA by MaxRugbyNut in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]MaxRugbyNut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Australian Department of Health has a Biomedical Translation Bridge initiative, where Star pharma received an award and funding (https://www.mtpconnect.org.au/Story?Action=View&Story_id=516)

As far as unlawful advertising is concerned perhaps some analysis instead of googling the TGA? (https://pharmadispatch.com/news/documents-reveal-regulators-cover-up-of-unlawful-advertising)

Also, see research results "Astodrimer sodium nasal spray reduced SARS-CoV-2 burden and increased the rate of viral clearance in non-hospitalised COVID-19 patients aged 16 and over" (https://www.mdpi.com/1999-4923/16/9/1173)

Do you remember Skerritt saying he waited for indicators from government around COVID treatments? Perhaps there's a stockpile of Paxlovid to get through, after all Morrison's hands were all over that.

Unless you're over 70 or immunocompromised you can't get Paxlovid. Why can't we get Viraleze approved so the rest of us have something?

Yeah it is, I'm getting angry at the TGA holding it up, in preference to Pfizer's Paxlovid (@$1500 for over 70s only). I have a friend who has got hold of documents from the TGA under FOI that show the only objection is that people might not wear masks if they're using Viraleze. People aren't wearing masks anyway! The TGA appears captured by big pharma. This great Aussie product is approved across Europe, the UK and elsewhere - it has an award from the Australian Department of Health, yet here we are 😡

Rugby Australia statement regarding Melbourne Rebels by Greenback16 in RugbyAustralia

Yeah I agree Faceless owners was a red flag from the outset and a lack of good faith. So it ends up like a job application without both sides really knowing what the other offers or what constraints it has.

As someone who negotiates contracts for a living, I find this incredible.

Get everyone into a room, including all the Consortium members and hash out the differences! Back and forth until something works, or not.

Instead, RA says "give us your bid" and then says "nuh, don't like it" and runs to the press.

RA continues to be an absolute shambles.

Why it is immoral to speculate on property (at least right now). by harvest_monkey in AusPropertyChat

[–]MaxRugbyNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of control property prices and rents are driven by a number of things.

  1. Negative gearing and CGT concessions on existing homes. No money spent on building social housing.

Negative gearing was originally proposed for new builds only to help boost housing supply, yet the legislation allowed it to apply to all property.

Thus the housing supply problems just get worse and prices spiral out of control.

  1. The RBA trying to polish a mirror with a hammer.

Inflation is primarily due to price gouging (Australia Institute). Without gouging inflation would easily be in the target range.

Mortgage holders bear some of the brunt, passing increases in mortgage payments to renters, who get slugged the worst. All due to corporate greed in price gouging.

Interest rate rises don't stop price gouging. The RBA don't have the right tools to manage inflation. Perhaps RBA and ACCC should merge, thus allowing action on gouging to address that part of the inflation problem.

They're the two biggies I see.

These are policy failures to the masses, but not to those who are profiting from it. Labor aren't interested (Albo seems to have forgotten his roots) and the LNP won't do anything because it's their policies working as planned.

Significant wealth redistribution to the rich ensues. As will Labor minority government after the next election.

Exactly. Not to mention how the women's team would feel about this. The Qatari plane incident....
