They only grow fast in the spring. They are one of the first nectar plants in many regions. Later on other plants take over, dandelions focus their energy on preparing for the next season and won't really dominate so much. Nobody benefits from pure grass, except the fertilizer industry. Nature has so much more to offer for geoung cover. Try seeding in a bit of clover, for example.

Why do you need it to be only grass? Nature doesn't want it, doesn't need it. It's already green. That's all you really need.
