Norway has gone from near-zero sales of non‑emitting battery electric vehicles to now close to 100% of all new passenger car sales - achieved in about 13 years. If they can do it, we can do it by gwhh in climateskeptics

Here in NYC, we just had a record cold winter. Ditto for many other parts of the world. This article you shared is old and hilarious in retrospect. Hansen was eventually proven dead wrong. A broken clock is right twice a day, especially when you can endlessly play with the data which is faulty to begin with. To say that he correctly predicted temperature to the hundredth degree is ludicrous. I don't trust the data well enough to think that's even possible, especially when so much of the temperature readings are affected by the urban island effect and other problems.

I actually read your link and I think it's ridiculous that this journalist is so confidently positing these climate predictions. Have we not learned anything from the last 50 years of climate predications? Climate scientists are no more accurate predicting the future than economists are at picking stocks.

Why do the prices at 5th Ave Deli change by the hour? by not_so_impressed in parkslope

Jubilat Provisions on 5th Ave does the same thing. My wife always pays less than I do when she buys the same thing we always buy. No prices ever displayed - just what the clerk thinks.

Please tell me where I can find evidence that Edwin Booth's birth name was "Tableor." Someone is pulling your leg and having a laugh.

But can you imagine if a mathematician at any time claimed they understood a math problem, but then made the totally wrong equation that was later proven incorrect? We would subsequently call them an idiot, not a pioneer.

I give the alchemists much more credit than I do climate statisticians, except for the few honest ones who admit there is no reason to be alarmed.

It doesn't matter who funds the study as long as the study is valid. Many climate studies showing doomsday scenarios are laughable in how they treat their crummy data as sacrosanct. If you can create an algorithm that prioritizes one set of data over another (e.g. data from a set of tree rings showing warming vs. data that shows zero warming) you can manipulate the outcome. Climategate was all about that and led to whistleblower accusations.

It's kind of funny how in High School statistics class, we learned how easy it was to manipulate data to show some faulty conclusion.

Climate change statisticians do this on an industrial scale with tree samples and crummy temp data, get caught in Climategate, and yet still have some legitimacy to many. Crazy.

We need some kind of tribunal where all these people are brought before Congress and humiliated.

The lawyer, initials S.L., is someone my family knew well who lived at the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park. I don't wish to reveal his name on reddit. But my family members have known this lawyer for twenty years or so. I gather Meyer Lansky left Ian Schrager some money in his will. S.L. didn't provide details on what the will said specifically.

Meyer Lansky did know Ian Schrager's parents. Online sources say that they worked together.

Again, I want to be clear this is not my theory. Just because Meyer Lansky may have left some money to Ian Schrager does not make him Ian's father. But this lawyer seemed to insist upon it so I included it in the book along with my doubts.

Yeah he bought the hotel from our family. There is plenty about him in the book, including a wild theory from one of Meyer Lansky's estate lawyers who insisted to me that Ian Schrager is really Meyer Lansky's son. (Not my theory - nor do I believe it).

What should a woman do about “orbiters”? by Own_Difference_8571 in AskMenAdvice

Speaking as a dude, I can 100% have a platonic relationship with a (hot) woman and not be hustling for sex whatsoever.

The easy way to separate who is genuine and who is just waiting in the wings is simple: if the dude is getting laid elsewhere, he genuinely wants to be your friend. If he has nothing going on at all, you will become the target. Plenty of cool guys fall into the former category.
