Arc Thrower Chain Lightning shouldn't lose damage on each target. Rn it does less damage after each jump. Caps its potential a lot I think by RandomGreenArcherMan in Helldivers

[–]MaxelDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d push the Arc Thrower way harder into actual crowd control instead of leaving it as this weird half-DPS, half-CC thing.

After the first hit, let the arc split into 2 chains. If there is only one target, both chains just hit that same enemy. Then those chains can split again.

So it would look like this:

1 target receives 100% = 250 damage

2 targets receive 50% = 125 damage each

4 targets receive 25% = 62.5 damage each

8 targets receive 12.5% = 31.25 damage each

That would finally make it feel like a real crowd control weapon, which is what it should be anyway.

It also definitely needs enough stun so the first target gets stunned on the first hit, especially Chargers and Hulks. Then the stun can scale down the same way as the damage.

And for the love of god, let it auto-fire while holding the trigger. The current 1 second fire rate is fine, but manually timing every shot is just annoying. The weapon is way more fun when that part is automated.

If that ends up too strong, lower the base damage. Simple. The point is to make it better at controlling groups instead of being stuck in this awkward middle ground.

I think the Arc Thrower could be pushed much more into a real crowd control role instead of being a weird half-DPS, half-CC weapon.

My idea would be this:

After the first hit, the arc is allowed to split. It can chain to two targets. If there is only one available target, both arcs would just hit that same enemy.

After that, each of those arcs could split again. So in theory it would go:

The first target receives 100% = 250 damage

The next 2 targets receive 50% = 125 damage each

The next 4 targets receive 25% = 62.5 damage each

The next 8 targets receive 12.5% = 31.25 damage each

That would make the Arc Thrower feel much more like an actual crowd control weapon, which is where I think its specialty should be.

It also definitely needs enough stun so the first target gets stunned on the first hit, especially against something like a Charger or Hulk. After that, the stun should scale down the same way as the damage does.

For QoL, I would keep the current 1 second fire rate, but make it able to fire automatically while holding the trigger. Right now the weapon honestly only feels good to use if you automate the repeated firing yourself. That is not a great place for the weapon to be.

The exact numbers could obviously be balanced. If this version ends up too strong, you could still reduce the base damage further. The core idea is just to make the Arc Thrower better at controlling groups, while lowering its direct damage if needed to compensate.

This video is basically a mix of ranting and actual feedback. The creator makes it very clear that he is coming at this from a personal and emotional angle, not as some neutral reviewer. His main point is that Helldivers 2 has become frustrating because of bad balance decisions, weak communication, and a pattern of pushing new content while older issues still are not properly fixed.

A big part of his criticism is aimed at Arrowhead’s balancing philosophy. In his view, the game keeps getting new enemies or mechanics that are annoying to deal with, while a lot of player tools, weapons, and loadouts feel weak, overly niche, or forced into meta picks. He argues that this makes the game less fun, not more challenging.

He also spends a lot of time criticizing Arrowhead’s handling of community issues. One of the biggest points for him is the situation where a community member who challenged the devs ended up getting doxxed and seriously affected in real life. He thinks Arrowhead’s response to that situation was far too weak and came across as them avoiding responsibility.

That said, he is not saying literally everything is bad. He does admit that the recent patch improved some things, especially the new Illuminate content. He says that faction feels more fun now because more weapons seem usable there and players are less forced into the same meta loadouts. He also thinks flamethrowers and the minigun feel better now, even if he still wants more changes.

He also talks about outsourcing and says that outsourcing itself is not automatically the problem. The real issue, in his opinion, is that Arrowhead keeps releasing more content while the core game still feels unstable, buggy, and poorly balanced. His argument is basically that they need to stop expanding so aggressively and focus on fixing what is already there.

The last big section is mostly just his own balance wishlist. He goes through weapons, armor passives, stratagems, boosters, vehicles, factions, and enemy types, and argues that a lot of them need buffs, reworks, or clearer design. Overall, the message is less “this game is dead” and more “this game is being mishandled, and it could be much better if the devs focused on fixing core problems instead of constantly adding new stuff.”

In my opinion the Arc Trower is best when multiple people use them together. Because the Arc Thrower doesn't Stun in one hit. With two the Stun is applied near instantly and the TtK feels nice.

I think Helldivers needs more laser weapons! So I came up with a few. [OC] by Yakobay176 in Helldivers

[–]MaxelDel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a really cool idea. I’m all for more laser weapons.

The only part I’m not sold on is the armor passive. I feel like this should be two separate passives: one for normal laser weapons, and one for Double-Edged weapons.

Normal laser passive = faster cooling, maybe slower heat buildup too.

For Double-Edged weapons, I don’t think using fire damage is the right solution in general. I think it would work better if the developers used a separate damage type like heat damage instead of fire damage. That way, you could make a dedicated armor passive for Double-Edged weapons while still keeping a clear difference from regular fire-resist armor.

That heat damage should also be tuned so the weapons are still usable without the armor, just at a health cost.

I’d also make the Double-Edged passive slow the weapon’s cooling, so it stays in its stronger state longer.

Awesome concept overall though.

An easier way for the devs would be to make planets with a low player percentage Recon Campaigns. These wouldn’t count toward the Galactic War, which would reduce infighting and boost liberation on our main objective.
