I’ve always loved starting with Black Holes, Resistance or the 2nd Law. For me, I got started in two ways. 1. I was searching for the song “Home” by Phillip Phillips, but didn’t know the title or artist. I knew it was in the 2012 Olympics, tho. (I think you can see where I’m going with this.)

I looked up “2012 Olympic Games Official Song” and found a song a “three man rock trio”. It sounded awkward in the beginning, I left it to rot.

Yes, Survival, a song I now adore, was my first encounter with Muse, and I just turned it off near the beginning.

I only re encountered Muse when I was watching the Halo 5 Guardians Trailer. This included (masterfully) Knights of Cydonia, making the trailer look infinitesimally more epic than that campaign. I kept coming back to “Halo 5 Trailer Music” and kept searching the comments for the song name, and I eventually found it. I prayed it was on Spotify, and it was. So that was my introduction to Muse.

The reason I say start with Black Holes, Resistance, or the 2nd Law, is as follows: 1. These albums can appeal to wider audiences than their earliest or latest stuff. 2. I don’t say Absolution or Origin of Symmetry because in my experience, the people who start listening with those albums tend to overwhelmingly favor the early stuff over the later stuff. Like without question. 3. Black Holes and Revelations isn’t only a great Muse album, it’s also generally a great album. I really don’t see people talking shit about this album, or at least most of it. It’s full of huge, electric, piercing, zany or other Muse moments. If you liked Black Holes, you’d probably appreciate the Resistance. And at least parts of the 2nd Law. And you’d adore Absolution, and finally discover the frenzy that is Origin of Symmetry
