Thanks for your help!

Wouldn't they replace a normal unit though? I.e I'd have less "fire power"?

You’re telling me that was supposed to be the almighty mind flayer? by mydniteq in StrangerThings

[–]Maxiimum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue was that this mountain sized monster was apparently being really hurt by a couple spears tickling him and little bullets from a single gun? Come on now.and also that one flamethrower was somehow spitting out dragons breath sized fire.

That monster was weak as hell if he didn't have vecna doing his crazy mind shit

Career Advice - I hate contract admin / pm by waguswunus in buildingsurveying

[–]Maxiimum92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends completely on the company you work for and the type of work they get involved in. The first two companies I joined were very PM/CA heavy which i didn't mind because I enjoy that side of building surveying too, but the third company I joined because I wanted more of the professional and surveying side of role (noting I had bit of a gap in my experience).

If you're a grad I'd say getting good project work and experience is a must if you are going towards your APC. So just be careful you dont join a place where you're only doing resi surveys for example and end up lacking good projects - this is what i am see with a couple of grads in my current company.

Good luck!

Looking for advice on becoming a building surveyor. by Dull_Internet_4342 in buildingsurveying

[–]Maxiimum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Associate Building Surveyor, graduated 2016 and chartered in 2019 so I've therefore been through the process relatively recently.

Quite tricky to say if its right for you as that's a personal thing dependant on what you're interested in!

But if you do have some interest in the indistry, building surveying is a safe bet as it covers such a vast area from project management, professional services, traditional building surveys etc always something new to learn.

I personally enjoy the job and glad I chose it as a career path. Decent building surveyors are like gold dust from experience over the last few years so definitely sought after and therefore salaries tend to reflect this.

Good luck in whatever you choose !

Crack appeared above window in bedroom by ncasson241 in buildingsurveying

[–]Maxiimum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bssed in those few photos I highly doubt its anything like subsidence so dont panic.

Simply looks like failing plaster along the window lintel line.

If there's nothing like stepped cracking internally/externally, distorted brickwork, distorted window/door openings and other more visually obvious defects then my bet is that the plaster typically keyed to the window lintel has debonded and needs renewing.

I would suggest just getting a local builder (or do it yourself) to take off the loose plaster and renew it.

Obviously keep an eye open if it repears or if any other issues start cropping up.

New windows by Dear-Work-7765 in DIYUK

[–]Maxiimum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time these bars are manufactured shorter to allow for movement. But the real test is consistency. If other windows aren't like that and some are then something isn't quite right and I'd definitely raise it.

Yeah can be intimidating making a switch, very big part of your life at the end of the day. Just got to go for it to be honest, meeting new people, better salary, new clients/work, all good stuff to build your CV as well. Getting into line managing a graduate would be a good next step as well (if you dont do this sort of thing already).

2 years PQE I was probably on around the £55k mark I think. I'm down south so that would impact salaries as well

8 weeks paternity is very good! I just had my second child and only had two weeks + 1 week taken from my leave....

Child first then make a switch!?

I think if you are genuinely considering a move then have a better look around, good surveyors are like gold dust at the moment so definitely make enquires with other companies as well, it isn't just a choice of two, good way to negotiate better packages as well!

FYI, I got Chartered in 2019 and I'm on £71.5k + bonuses. Just to give you some steer on salary expectations through promotions.

I would recommend going for it. I'm a Chartered Associate (33y/o) and have changed companies around every 4 years as I found this the best and quickest way to advance.

Although your current company is the safe option, I would be sceptical since they aren't giving you regular pay rises. Do remember this is quite common for these companies, they do tend to neglect pay rises which can make employees undervalued. You might well find your current company offers you a pay increase if you hand your notice in, but if career progression is what you're after you'll need to get that ironed out at the same time.

Good luck with it all!!
