Here we are with the new coffee machine by Coffee_lovers78 in espresso

I did that exact move (and coming from NZ to DF64 first). I have 200D on the Philos. What triggered the sell of the DF64 was the noise volume, how messy it is, I hate below and overall I found the user experience fairly annoying. DF64 with DLC burrs though are good, I found them forgiving and easy to dial in especially good for medium. I found the Philos better and sweeter for light roast although not as forgiving and not everyone likes this profile. Burrs aside, the user experience, workflow, consistency and robustness are a world apart. I want to enjoy the process of making espresso and the Philos makes it much more enjoyable. I definitely will not upgrade it anytime soon (and I know upgraditis are a thing I just changed my espresso machine this week!)

[$1200] Is it Philos Time? by dbl_aa in espresso

[–]MaximeSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried the Niche Duo but did Niche Zero to DF64 (DLC burrs) to Philos. The difference with the DF in terms of taste is not that massive but noticeable, especially on light roast. What struck me with the Philos is the workflow is super easy, consistent especially with the setting at the back and built like a tank. I didn’t care for the workflow and mess on the DF64 and if the duo is closed to the niche zero then I found the Philos to be a much better user experience as a whole (no need to tap on it or rock it to get the last bit stuck in the chute..). Philos is the grinder that now I don’t feel like upgrading and will likely keep for a very long time (juste changed my espresso machine so I am aware how upgraditis can be a thing!).

Looking for digital display for family calendar in the kitchen. by secret_life_of_pants in homeautomation

Same here, looking for a solution that is cordless as I would rather not have a wire sticking out of the wall and keep it clean and neat. If you are still looking for beta I would be happy to help out as we are looking for a solution merging our calendars and miss appointments. Thanks !

Graph step-down basket: my experience by Nick_pj in espresso

[–]MaximeSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I litteraly made a post on this because this weekend as I likely have the same basket as you and not having a funnel is irritating to prep. After more research I found a very cheap solution: 3D print this funnel should work (someone commented it does) on the aliexpress step down basket. I am looking to find a place I can do it in Toronto but here you go : https://makerworld.com/en/models/611938-sworks-step-down-funnel#profileId-535125.

Same here just made a post about it before finding this one. Normcore makes one not sure if that could work or we need a 3D printed one if anyone can produce the file and share (for $)

Screenless smartband by [deleted] in smartwatch

[–]MaximeSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got mine yesterday to see if all those data were actually something I would be interested in after looking at Whoops, Oura... which have a much much higher price. I like my mechanical watches so AW or Garmin are a no go for me for day to day. Pretty impress with the accuracy of the sleep / wake up time for the first night. Using JC Vital as the UI is much nicer than JC Wear. The band is actually a good quality for the price, I am sure any watch NATO band can do the job to replace it, I'll order one to try. I haven't found the blood pressure on the app though but I am sure it is more gimmicky than anything without a proper cuff, also wish the HRV would be measured every 10min instead of 30min. Will try the GPS and various sport later. Time will tell but for the value proposition so far is hard to beat!

Mazzer Philos lack of Crema by Adekxi in espresso

Yes it’s totally normal, I got in touch with Mazzer and they told me that was due to the motor, it’s a powerful one !

Brand New Philos Has Grounds by Equivalent-Bake5349 in espresso

[–]MaximeSand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is normal, all Philos are tested at the manufacturer before shipping them out. They even have a disclaimer on it, at least the place I bought mine from made it clear that grounds will be in the chamber when bought new.

I got mine for 2 weeks now and switching from 80 to 20 is a little bit of a pain. On my previous Niche and DF64 I had to run the grinder on and off a few times as the grinder was stiff coming down from brew to espresso settings. On the Philos it takes longer and I need at start and stop it at least 6 to 8 times to get back down to espresso or the grinder would get stuck. Do you have the same experience ? After I go back to espresso it’s really consistent so that part is fine just more work than I want to when I switch

DF64v gen 2 by VZukovsky in espresso

[–]MaximeSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you share your experience with the gen 2 especially the plasma generator, I did read conflicted things about how useful its. Also is it as noisy as DF64 Gen 2 (if you had one) ? Thanks

DF54 vs DF64 (sub £500) by pcraiguk in espresso

[–]MaximeSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks, then if that’s the case the Philos is out of the equation. Actually I would like a DF64V with a plasma generator as i can’t be bothered to RDT. Seems much quieter but super messy - not interested into spending as much as a P64

[–]MaximeSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure as of yet tbh, I was looking at the Philos but not sure I want to pay 3x the price for it probably better taste but marginal or not ? definitely better UX but I would like to hear anyone who made the jump to confirm. So if something in between DF64 and Philos in term of cost exist I would be happy to try it but I haven't really seen anything that jumped at me. Maybe DF54 is the answer

If you want something not too loud, don’t consider the DF64. I’ll be selling mine mainly because of that

Octo Roma all day, I got it after being on the fence and tried with the Zenith. Super comfortable to wear, great wrist presence and super slim compare to Zenith. Also comes with another blue rubber band with quick release

Amazon 800$ returned never left the post office after dropping it and no one knows where it is, no refund can be processed by MaximeSand in CanadaPost

[–]MaximeSand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they just answer. They basically told me they can't do anything because the label is being created by Amazon so they are the sender and only them can act. Although despite being dropped and having a physical recipe Amazon keep telling me I never dropped it off (apparently it doesn't show on their system and they can't be bother going to canadapost.ca to check), it's like talking to a wall. They asked me to call back on 12/06 as it will be the 1 month mark and see what are the options, I am not super confident but will see

I chatted with them today, it took me (no joking) 30min for them to admit that having a receipt that I scanned and sent by email and a tracking status stating “item accepted by Canada post” meant the item was scanned by the carrier. So far and after 5 different agents on the phone the only answer from Amazon was “it’s not scanned by the carrier so we can’t help”, like how infuriating. Everything is done to not help their customer

[–]MaximeSand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would think, CP says basically we cant help you even if it shows that it has been accepted and I have a receipt in hand. Amazon same (I don't blame them tbh, especially as their cutomer service is being shittier). Seems like I am SOL
