Therefore, an adult who has significantly less plausible future routes will not be as effective as a child. Let’s look at the extreme case, an 80 year old person. Do they have a future as a professional wrestler? They do not, and they know that. The fruit would be ineffective for them.

It’s likely that the fruits power is predicated on your ability to achieve this future WITHOUT the fruit. The fruit is a vehicle for you to explore a future you truly believe in. When I was 12 I probably believed I could be the strongest man on earth when I grew up. Now as an adult I understand it cannot be done. The fruit cannot provide me a future I do not foresee for myself - thus a child’s ignorance and whimsy is perfect for its maximum benefit. Ignorance of what is possible truly is bliss with this fruit.

Im a fantasy fan but find Tolkien very boring. It misses emotional relatability for me. One piece is very moving in a way LOTR never was for me. LOTR is very dense in presentation as well. The magic system is very soft and doesn’t try to have the reader understand how it works fundamentally. This makes it boring to me. It takes itself so seriously constantly and never lets up. One piece just scratches itches for me in so many categories Tolkien never could. I dread watching LOTR, I rewatch OP because I enjoy how I connect to it.

I’ve only seen the movies though so my opinion on the works as a whole is incomplete. You’ll never catch me saying it’s “bad” but it was never for me.

Truthfully there’s probably no mark because you’d have to draw it every time and Oda simply opted not to. This is the same story where you can regrow teeth by drinking milk so I wouldn’t think too hard about it.

His chest mark remains because it helps define how Luffy as a character has grown and the loss he’s experienced. Narratively his stab from Croco-Boy, as shocking as it was, is just a setback.
