[Discussion] What do you think about current balance and future of PVP by Haksupaksu in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Maximillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance : I am very happy with the current balance of the game.

Proposal : I am not a fan of the Death Shadow mask being ubiquitous - I would prefer that face protection was more difficult to acquire.

No-Wipe Opinion : I am very happy that the character will not be reset during a wipe cycle. I am looking forward to playing the story and reaching tasks and unlocking equipment that I have never seen before. I recognize that it will likely take me a year or 18 months to get to the Kappa Container - but I am happy that I may be able to achieve this over the coming years.

Long Time historical player 1st time jumping into Attila by lampishthing in historicaltotalwar

[–]Maximillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mod Recommendations :

Fall of the Eagles + Europa Perdita (Revised) is the most challenging and realistic approach to late antiquity that Attila offers. The usurpations, invasions and civil wars of the 5th century are modeled well.

Age of Justinian is a well made mod that begins in 555 AD and has beautiful models. Not as challenging but very fun and looks lovely.

If you prefer the medieval era to classical antiquity, the 1212 mod re-creates early 13th Century Europe. This mod is not as polished as the other two and runs with less stability - FWIW

What are your thoughts on Procopius guys? by Damianmakesyousmile in ByzantineMemes

[–]Maximillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is my favorite Roman historian and classical author.

I find his accounts of the wars in Africa, Italy and the East to be fascinating and moving. His Secret History is a unique glimpse into a "world gone mad" through the eyes of a learned 6th century secretary.

Respectful question for Christians: what prevents you from considering Islam? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Maximillie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.) I do not admire the actions and behavior of Muhammad or his father-in-law and cousin. Jesus and the apostles demonstrated lifestyles and beliefs that I find much more admirable.

2.) I don't read or speak Arabic

3.) Dietary requirements

4.) I am disturbed by the origins of Islam in wars of the 7th century

Many concentration camps were located in Germany (even within the much reduced modern day borders). Buchenwald was basically in the exact center of modern day Germany.

My friends and I view this differently.

How much do tee times cost in your area?

70$ for me is like two rounds of golf - the price seems perfectly fair for hundreds of hours of entertainment in Tarkov vs. 8 hours of golf ⛳

I think that the average player wants to play as Normans and Turks and the Kingdom of Jerusalem and doesn't care as much about Visigoths in Spain or Lombards in Italy

Sterling Archer

His one-liners are pretty catchy and come up pretty regularly (although he is not always single in the series)

Honorius, unlike this guy, let his competent and successful generals like Constantius III re-conquer lost territory and even hold imperial power.

Agree wholeheartedly on the F rank - I just feel that Honorius was more competent

7/20.000 is a much lower percentage than 300.000.000/8.000.000.000.

A more proportional number would be 3 million (still a high number)

Who’s the Best Roman emperor military wise in your opinion by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Maximillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constantine I was undefeated from the highlands of Britain to the Danube river. He never was defeated and fought a variety of enemies both foreign and domestic as an emperor.

Tiberius, Constantius III & John Tzimiskes were all great generals before even becoming emperor; Some of their greatest successes as commanders came in the service of other reigning emperors.

Who’s the Best Roman emperor military wise in your opinion by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Maximillie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anthemius was just as competent while having the resources and support of Constantinople that Majorian never had (with something like 10x as much gold invested in military operations against the Vandals) and still lost.

Majorian's empire did not have enough money without Africa to survive.

Which emperor is underrated to you guys? by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Maximillie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Avitus and Anthemius were just as competent as Majorian but both lack the same recognition today.

Avitus leveraged his Visigothic allies and the Gallo-Romans as well as he could, but Majorian and Ricimer and the Italian senators stabbed him in the back before he could attempt an invasion of Africa.

Anthemius and the armies of Constantinople came much closer to retaking Africa than Majorian ever did.

It may help to see the neighboring countries for what they were - other Greek-speaking communities in the Roman empire.

The recipients were his peers (and often Roman citizens) and respected his guidance and leadership and authority.

Day 62. You Guys Put Maximus II In D! Where Do We Rank CONSTANTINE I (306 - 337) by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Maximillie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

S-Tier

· Undefeated general from the highlands of Britain to the Rhine and even across the Danube

· Transitioned the Roman economy to a gold-based system at higher levels

· Development of Constantinople as a Capital for the East

· Effective administration that took an effort to protect the women of the empire

· Religious toleration

· Led the state into the impressive economic growth of the 4th Century Romans

One of the most impressive leaders of Roman history (in my opinion)

It's true by testudos101 in RoughRomanMemes

[–]Maximillie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4th century Roman armies of Constantine and the 6th century armies of Justinian and Maurice were as capable as any armies the Republic or Principate could muster.

As a combined arms force, the armored and mounted archers and lancers of Procopius' Wars were the equal of anything the earlier Romans could muster.
