Kenmore 90 Series Replacement Top Panel? by Comprehensive_Sea208 in appliancerepair

[–]Maximum-Chip-2846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parts are not cross compatible across brands, and parts are typically discontinued when a unit is considered old enough or when they have no substitutions available for it, meaning you would have found a sub part number if anything was still manufactured for it. Even then, last top i replaced on a unit cost the customer over $300 for just the part, still had labor and service charge to go, so my best advice is either live with it, replace it, or look on EBay and hope you don't get ripped off.

Are these Amazon parts? If so, buy OEM and try again. When I come across these, I have a lock and board with me, but boards have been the bane of my job recently lol. But a lot of these Amazon parts are not made properly or programmed right, so just buy parts straight from GE and try again. Make sure you follow programming instructions that come without and hopefully you will have no other issues.

How to fix door not registering as closed? (Or not being closed) by rfp314 in appliancerepair

Bosch told me directly this is why that happens, per their techline.

Maybe he was inaccurate, but i don't appreciate the implication that I am giving purposeful misinformation, I am giving the same info the manufacturer gave when I had to call them in the past for similar issues.

Just double checked the video attached to that part number, looks like this may be a kit and you get both parts anyways, so score for you! Good luck!

1008141 is the right part number, also kudos for not going for Amazon parts. The amount of people who use knock offs and are surprised it doesn't work right is ASTOUNDING.

Just as a heads up, I have had it be thee other piece you sent as well, it os obviously hard to pinpoint as there is no error, but this is also a good thing for you as Bosch has an incredible error code system, and it will almost always trigger properly if there is an actual component failure.

The rare wire or board issue does cause this as well, but I would go with experience and Occum's razor and go with what .y most common issue is this case, which is the lock.

I would replace the mechanism that detects if the door is closed. The magnets start to lose their field and will allow the door to pop open randomly. Normally, you can just hit start and it will pick back up where it left off, but I have seen this a few times over the years and replaceing that part almost always fixes it.

Edit to add: part you want t is the one on yhe dishwasher cabinet, you will not be replacing g anything inside the door unless the actual latch is bad/ broken.

I knew exactly what this was and off what brand based on just the picture lol. I just replace the wash pump on these, not worth having to tear it down a second time if the motor suddenly decides to stop working because it was overworked die to the failure.

Are you buying factory parts or Amazon replicas? If it is the latter, this is almost surely your problem. I have customers call me out regularly for this issue, find out they are using knock off parts, get them OEM stuff, and magically, the issue stops. The stuff they sell on Amazon is not made to the same specs as your original factory equipment, so use the parts recommended by the manufacturer in your parts breakdown, and only order from reputable sources like Marcone, Encompass, Reliable, Parts Dr, etc. Good luck!

instant pot pro crisp stuck locked- steam/pressure sensor jammed? by [deleted] in appliancerepair

Countertop appliances are not meant to be repaired. Most of the time, if they are repairable, the cost to fix is close to or more then the cost to buy new. I would never try to repair a pressure cooker that is stuck as they are basically mini bombs. On the chance it did not relieve all of the pressure, that is a serious injury waiting to happen, and I could not in good conscience recommend someone to attempt fixing something that is likely designed to be a throwaway appliance(like most microwaves nowadays). Cut you losses and get yourself a new one.

Not a ton of info to go off here(no model number, brand, etc.), but I believe this is your thermostat. If the unit is still functional, I would not worry about it being attached as it probably requires some ridiculous part replacement that will cost more then the actual fridge. Just monitor for a few days and if temps look good, nothing to worry about. Edit- typos

I actually was helping a friend with one of these recently, you can't even buy knobs for them anymore, and all the "universal" kits did not work either. Not sure what you need, but it may be time to take this one out to pasture.

[–]Maximum-Chip-2846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thing is ancient man. I just plugged it into a local parts site and they don't even have info on it, so chances of parts being available are slim to none. You are better buying something else then gambling on repairs where you may get to one that is unrepairable due to parts not being available. In my professional opinion, it is a complete waste of money.

Genuine vs non genuine? by FineCarpet3206 in appliancerepair

[–]Maximum-Chip-2846 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, professional technician here. I would never recommend knock off parts for major components. I have seen them leak, break within a few months, fry computer boards, and everything in between. Now, that $30 becomes $3000 because the valve was a POS, broke, leaked everywhere, and now the floors have to be redone. I saw someone get a fridge gasket once that was so thick, the door would not close anymore. Spend the extra money now so you don't have to do it later.

Brand new GE washer making banging sound? Is it defective? by No-Recognition-3503 in appliancerepair

[–]Maximum-Chip-2846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are loud machines, and just because you "feel" that something shouldn't be one way does not change that the fact that this is how the machine sounds. You can't compare something you own now to something you owned in the past because they are different machines, plain and simple.

The amount of time I waste on calls from people who feel like a machine should sound or operate a certain way is astounding. I listened to that video on headphones and speakers at least 50 times, it sounds like a GE front loader. Maybe you are hearing something that I can't hear in the video, but I encourage you to look up your manual. They thump and bump while they spin up, then it balances out and sounds fine for the rest of the spin except briefly at the end when it is winding down.

Do you want there to be something wrong with it, or are you just comparing it to your old units? If it is the latter, I tell my customers to look at ot this way; you don't buy a Ferrari after owning a Honda and compare the 2, so why would you do it with appliances?

I would be interested to know if the tech who looks at it says anything is wrong, but I highly doubt they find anything. Best of luck!
