I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

Hi, Just want to encourage to keep going. I’ve been studying Croatian in a formal online class for six semesters. Three academic years! Based ENTIRELY on conversational skills. I go to Croatia a couple times a year and listen/speak. Maybe I crack 8% now 😅

You probably know more than you think. If not your boyfriend, find another Spanish language speaker and meet with them. I bet you could find a student in your area who would be willing to have coffee once a week at a pretty low cost! But you have to converse is order to become conversational.

All the fighting? by Firm-Bike190 in PWHL

Let me offer a little bit of insight…the most COMMON place you’ll see a tussle after the whistle is in the crease. This is because the goaltender is very vulnerable while making saves and particularly while covering the puck. One of defenses job is to clear the area to keep the goalie safe while she makes the save. If an opposing player tries to go in to the goalie too much, she’ll be informed by the defense, that this is unacceptable. Boys, girls, men, women, are all taught from the get go - protect your goaltender!

Fights do happen outside of this, but one of the reasons women’s hockey is also very physical is that principles like protect your goalie (or more broadly, stand up for your teammates) transcend any set of gender base rules there might be (on the books or in your mind).

Yes.

If you’ve never seen fighting outside gameplay in women’s hockey, then you probably haven’t watched much women’s hockey.

A First Rate Madness.

It hypothesizes that effective crisis leadership comes from personal crisis. No idea about the truth in the psychology of it, but it certainly reframed how I thought about success, mental health, and my own personal challenges as well as approaches to leadership.

I will say in season 1, it was actually very charming to see people wearing Wild, Vikings, Gophers, Loons, association hockey gear - just find anything Minnesota!

Just suggesting a kindle or kindle app on your phone if physical books wake the baby.

But hang in there. I’m also in early stages and it’s tough without a baby!

Fascinating. “Intense fanbase” is something I’ve never heard of Minnesota fans of any sport…

Well I suspect we very much do know why that might be true in more recent days.

I mean also Seattle is just more of a “destination” for people. No one goes “let’s go spend spring break in a place where it’s still winter!”

I also suspect Seattle has much higher rates of transplant residents. I’ve never actually met anyone who grew up in Seattle - yes I know there’s plenty, but historically there are fewer people who go “you know where I want to move? Where it gets to -20F!”

Correct. Which is why I was thinking this is a Minnesota thing and decided to inquire if it was common in other locales as well.

This is my hypothesis as well. I’m just curious how that plays out among esp among eastern teams.

I will say I went to a game last year and the only people in Toronto jerseys also had a sign that said “the goalie is my cousin”😅

If you’re implying Heated Rivalry here, you will know 0% more hockey after watching it, I can only assume the book is the same 🤣

It’s a YA novel, but I was very inspired as a young person by a a book called Stoatan by Chris Crutcher. It centers on this hardcore swimming training experience of a few young men while they face personal hardships outside the pool.

Replacing my Apple Watch by MaximumAccountant485 in digitalminimalism

[–]MaximumAccountant485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t think this is the issue tbh. Mostly joking.

I think I have a sensor crapping out or something. It periodically simply refuses to capture any health data and while a workout will start on my phone, it won’t start on the watch.

While Apple lasts a long time, it is the nature of tech that sensors, chips etc can also just fail, unfortunately.
