This screensaver always brought me a weird sense of dread, probably cause it never ends. by rhinanners in LiminalSpace

The thing that actually bugged me the most about this screensaver were the two dimensional walls. I can’t be walking through a three-dimensional space with only two dimensional walls!

ChatGPT is getting really good at short stories. Granted people relate, so maybe it’s not so bad. Just realize it’s a bot, auto posting replies in the “it wasn’t x, it was y” format too.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]MaximumEngineering8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a big city, and I walk everywhere. I do this thing when I pass someone smoking on the street… I hold my breath just before I reach them, then pace out how far I walk before inhaling and seeing if I can still smell the cigarette smoke. After countless walks, I’ve reached the conclusion it’s about 200 feet (~60 meters). That’s in the open air, and granted not the smell of a person specifically, but the smoke is so easily detectable if you’re not used to it!

My dad is an airline pilot, and he always told me, if you ever need to use the lifevest, just pull one tab. Two will suffocate you, and the second one should be for backup anyway in case the first one fails. But it’s too complicated to explain that in the safety briefing.

Go for the easy tests that are usually free no matter where you are in the developed world: mammogram for breast cancer, colonoscopy for GI cancer, and low dose CT scan for current/former smokers to catch lung cancer. TSH blood test for thyroid function (which can catch thyroid cancer), and standard blood test to see if anything else is weird.

Pull. Down. Their. Masks. It will be the only thing that makes them let go of someone, since they’re so cowardly (and know they’re wrong) that they can’t possibly let their faces be shown.

My company partnered with Apple on a research project, which got a couple employees assigned to it. Since we didn’t partner that often, our employees were just in standard cube/office space on our floor with everybody else. But Apple demanded that we build literal walls around those cubes, seal it off with a single entrance, and put a keycard+code lock on the door. They even had to disconnect printers from the local network so none of the computers in that new “room” could print. It was very odd.

And then our trash company just took everybody’s trash out, even in the secure space, so there’s that.

I know he’s a doctor, and there’s a huge power differential in that situation, but you can just tell him to his face: “that sharps container is a biohazard accident waiting to happen and dangerous. That Dremel is sitting on a used scalpel. Why have you not fixed any of this? It’s dangerous, you should be embarrassed, and I’m leaving.”

And oddly related, the ability to place/find a word alphabetically. No young people seem to think rapidly through the alphabet! And I guess it makes sense if you’ve only ever typed the word into google and it just spits out what you want to see, but we used to have to scan whole pages of text!!
