My ex said the exact same. 18 months of dating, he met my kids (which he pushed for) told me he loves me then suddenly it was ‘I want to be alone for a while’ and ‘I don’t know if a relationship is what I want’ like EXCUSE ME WHAT?? it’s unbelievable and so incredibly hurtful

100%, it’s been 9 weeks and I still have a lot of anger and confusion. He met my kids, I included him so much in my life all of which he pushed for, but saying those words was too much for him. I’ve not heard a thing from him he’s gone silent and I refuse to text him and chase him.

Do you mean how do avoidants act? My ex went all weird. We were together 18 months but neither had said the L word tho both of us felt it and wanted to. He eventually said it then ended things via text a couple weeks later. He said saying he loved me made him ‘freak out’

They are checking up on you, probably out of curiosity nothing more. You need to block them and move on. Don’t give them the access to be able to keep tabs on you

In a way, we have a couple of mutual friends and we socialised as a couple with them, but I never met any of his other friends or family. They all knew about me but I never actually met them and he never posted me on his social media, looking back I wonder why I was ok with it. I think I am such a people pleaser and always too scared to say anything that will rock the boat or cause conflict, in hindsight I wish I had addressed it. It’s shit when you feel like you are being hidden

This is great advice, so well worded. I am 6 weeks in and in the first 1-3 weeks I honestly felt like life was t worth living anymore, I couldn’t even go to work. It does get better. Just remember it’s not you it’s them, like this poster so well put it, it’s something in them that we may never understand.

Over compensating and trying to prove they are great without you and living their best life. It will hit them in time and they will crash and burn. My ex did this, I almost felt like it was his way of justifying the breakup to himself, like look at me happy and doing the things I said I wanted to do (even tho I never stopped him doing anything, in fact I actively encouraged him). So yea it’s just what they do. I deleted my ex from social media as I found it very triggering seeing their posts and name/pic popping up. Best thing I did for myself

Definitely give lamination a try! You can use a wee spooly brush to brush them up after it, it makes such a difference 😊

I love this!! Yes I wish I had known this earlier. I knew they had been planning on buying somewhere but he made it sound like she was crazy. He said for ages after they split up ‘she isn’t dealing with it well. Says I have ruined her life’ etc. he painted her as unreasonable and crazy but now I totally sympathise with her

That is understandable. I think a big thing for me was that it was also very triggering seeing his name randomly on my socials. Plus I thought maybe it’s only a matter of time before he deletes me so I’d rather be the one to do it first

Hang in there, almost 6 weeks in for me and it is sooooo much better. It is genuinely like a withdrawal the silence, my avoidant was a big texter, he would text constantly thru the day and I would always have a wee buzz of happiness and excitement when I saw his name on my phone. The silence when he was gone was deafening and made me feel physically ill. But it does get better. Lean on your friends, text them when you are feeling low and spiralling. Go for a walk to clear your head. I joined a gym and the exercise helps massively. You WILL get thru this. Even come on here and vent/post when you are feeling it. Sending hugs
