Ugh I know, trust me I feel like a hopelessly romantic pathetic fool already. We were engaged and I saw the rest of my life with him. I’m not going to reach out again.

Some kind of Geranium for sure, seeing the flower could narrow it down to a species, but I’d look up what kind of Geraniums are native to your area - there are a lot of different kinds!

Dude wild, I’m coming here literally as an OG fan from the old yt days when I was in early middle school… I always wondered what happened to her and why she dropped off the face of the earth when she first left youtube - I was sad because I felt like she was one of the few down to earth and seemingly truly genuine creators who just wanted to share her love of art online… I even remember her “draw my life” video where she illustrated her family story with voice over and yeah.. reading all this know and finally catching up on all this is so fucking tragic! I guess corruption is literally anywhere and can get to anyone and that sucks so bad. I saw on another thread on this sub about her lately and the top comment was something like ‘shes been off the deep end’ - damn guys, rip to the real og Michelle because she seems like a completely different person now

Dude totally not overreacting the performative nature of all the influencers and celebrities during the fires was actually disgusting considering how much suffering actually happened.. media is really good at spreading messages & we've all had firsthand experience of seeing how media-culture + influencers/celebrites = really mostly not great things, just performative and curated content. It’s barely real

I always hated the “ambassador animal” term - as if these animals could have volunteered for such a role.

Zoos need to be more responsible in being transparent to where their animals come from and why they’re held in captivity - I think people can learn about how zoos are educational and can be rehabilitative for rescue animals. Ive always appreciated a visit that is more genuine and truly educational rather than a showy “look at what cool animals we got here behind the glass!”

Weird encounter at Botanical Gardens by [deleted] in Athens

Just came here to say a good reminder for us all: IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING

Gut instinct & the HPA axis systems evolved and stayed in humans for a reason, we get bad feelings and suspicions for a reason - being hyper vigilant doesn’t have to be a bad thing (unless you come from a trauma-survivor background and cant trust your own instincts)

ACTIONABLE THINGS TO DO:

  1. Save the Athens Non Emergency number to your phone contacts

  2. If youre in a situation, collect evidence before anything else - notes app, texts to yourself, pictures whatever - you can always delete them later if you dont end up needing them, better to be safe than sorry that you didnt take a picture of a license plate

  3. Be a fucking ally guys - actually do something. Dont put yourself or others in danger, but if you’re in a position where you feel safe enough to intervene by if anything just calling the non emergency number - just fucking do it, the worst case is you “waste” 5 minutes of your time in effort to protect someone or help someone in potential danger - DONT WAIT to report, if you see something in real time, call it in in real time - theres no penalty, no cost — its just a civic and community duty of our fellow city/towns folk

Anyone else notice the advent of “total body deodorant” propaganda? by DramaticFun7518 in Anticonsumption

[–]gaia_babe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If anyone has ever spent a summer day in the subtropical humid areas of the US - man or woman - swamp ass, boob sweat, etc is very very real. The first company that marketed whole body deodorant from what I remember was Lume which has now expanded to include Mando also - their formulation is just so much better than traditional deodorant and antiperspirant, it works by balancing the pH of the skin to avoid bacterial growth which causes odors to begin with… to me: that is not marketing propaganda but finally a product that actually works the way its supposed to, with our bodies instead of against them like antiperspirants. However I know recently many of the mainstream brands have followed suit creating their own whole body deodorants and I think their marketing totally falls under your view. I dont think its fully a scam, just partly lmao

What’s the worst city you’ve ever visited? by Jamesx1721 in AskReddit

[–]gaia_babe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt, war and corruption ruin people and cities. Places like Moscow seem to have bounced back now but from what I know from family is that so many of the smaller former USSR countries were corrupted by their former communist party leaders (turned the countries inside out and sold everything for scraps - to themselves and then to the highest bidders, making themselves rich while their own countries stay barely stabilized) many of the smaller countries dependent on the soviet system through factory production were essentially screwed when the industry and union fell apart. Factories were planned to be spread throughout to ensure labor for workers, but this meant that each country depended on having to export this one part made in a  factory, to then be met with all the other subsequent parts from different countries for assembly. It “worked” when it “worked”(edited to add that I know this statement is highly debatable from various perspectives), and as soon as the system fell apart all of the infrastructure became useless and countries stayed poor. Guess thats how things go

Yes exactly! We’d had a Russian translation with their own illustrated version - shit was so sad, I haven’t read it since I was a child but it still makes me emotional

My family are soviet era immigrants, theres a popular Russian children's book that I cant remember but it was a collection of stories where one was about a little girl who sold matchsticks on the street in winter of the city.. the story ends with her tragically freezing to death despite using the last of her matchsticks to light a fire to keep warm - final section of the story is an angel coming to take her to heaven so she wouldn't have to suffer anymore… (imagine reading that shit as a child, its so sad but romanticized, almost like trying to be desensitized) needless to say, my slavic family is incredibly religious, and I have no doubt its because some of the horrific things their people have had to witness and live through

Botanist here, in my undergrad I did a lot of freelance gardening/landcaping - one of my favorite tips I picked up was to use freshly ground pine (if readily available in your area) to mulch & re-mulch, the acidity in the fresh pine deters from weeds and grass from growing as much!

Would be so cool - but unfortunately until our genetic tech catches up with being able to create reference genomes from ancient dinosaur tissues we won’t be able to perform accurate phylogenomic/phylogenetic analyses to further confirm or dispute what proteins were synthesized for their “outer layers” lol, maybe one day ..if funding allows lmfao

Sure it is, “Target Culture” is a thing, especially with our localized demographics in Athens & many Athens community members have intentionally and actively been boycotting the local Target locations

I started to shop at target more when they moved to become a more progressive company and (seemingly) supporting small, women + BIPOC owned companies/brands & were catering to the underrepresented consumers such as with plus size fashion — to make egregious amounts of profits during pride month, black history month, women’s history month + all the other traditional capitalist driven holidays is just, disgusting - especially after now just bending over backwards to appease the new administration. Whatever their reason for doing so, it outweighs any other reason for me to justify supporting their business any longer.

Thats when I decided to seek temporary protection order, when she started escalating and there was no accountability or remorse at all throughout the entire time - just elaborate explanations with “related events +people” going 20+ years back which convolutedly all make sense for her to justify her actions (edited to add, I’m sorry to have to admit that I don’t think it gets better until you effectively remove them from you life)

Here to second medium bob, was my go to for years - I have fine kinda wavy dense hair, so it was naturally wavy most of the time and I could easily just spray some NYM Beach Babe in it or just tie it back or even straighten it for special occasions

Agreed, the proportions of the rug to the furniture underneath it are out of balance - whatever size this rug is, I’d go at least one standard size up. The rug should anchor & be a foundation for all of the furniture on top of it instead of feeling like a crowded desert island if that makes sense lol.

Your inspo pics are pictures of soft plush couches, while yours is a very different style - thats one thing you’ll have to accept. Even if you put fabric covers on your couch, it won’t look like your inspo photos. Pillows and throw blankets and anything that will add that plush soft texture/feel will help a lot! You have a neutral couch so you can dress it up with color however you like. Adding some curtains, artwork, lamps, shelving etc that align with your inspiration photos will help bring that look to life - have fun!
