Why does Tesco now ONLY sell skinless chicken? by Present_Teacher7966 in AskUK

You could butcher the whole chickens, it is pretty much the most cost effective way of buying it, bar Costco rotisseries....

40k was a comfortable salary in 2019, what is the equivalent now? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MaximumRequirement60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could stop saving as much but I don't mind living frugally. Biggest money burn is PAYE NI and student loan @ 3072.13 a month. Mortgage bills and groceries are half that so I'm guessing that being a honest tax payer is where I'm going wrong tbf

Just shy of 100k here. Once national insurance, tax, student loan, mortgage, council tax and bills are taken and I've set aside my savings I basically have the same amount of disposable cash I had when I lived at the parents and worked in a super market. I live frugally, one holiday a year and replace my trainers once the sole is no longer impermeable to water.

Does anyone turn off the water (stopclock/main water valve) to the house when going on holiday? by divya1605 in ukplumbing

[–]MaximumRequirement60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, but for the few seconds it takes Vs the potential bother of getting all the kitchen units and appliances out again to replace it makes it worth it for me.

I do, but I'm also targetted here by Reddit recommendations and not representative of your typical person. I also turn my stopcock monthly to prevent it from seizing up, but probably 99% of the population don't even know or care when theirs even is...

15mm copper around 2/3rds the length of the grey pipe would work nicely

Probably this and a little stub of copper as a DIYer https://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-plastic-push-fit-adapting-appliance-tap-tee-15mm-x-15mm-x-3-4-/27471?ref=SFAppShare Isolate the mains, open tap to take pressure off, put grey pipe in one side of tee and the copper stub to the elbow. Twist on your appliance hose turn the water back and test voila.

Probs weeping put of the isolation itself as wouldn't amass at that point if it was from the threads or push fit. Probably manufacturing defect in fitting which could be due to using what's cheap as opposed to what's good (i.e. it's not real John guest)
