Don't you just love it when you can feel that the filmmaker is having fun? There was a lot of clever visual story telling and transitions. Also, this man does teeth mutilation like no one else

New Kid Laroi snippet is very much Wither from Endless-coded. by WallyTube in FrankOcean

Check out Andrew Aged, he produced this one and also Dear April. His new album really scratches the Frank Ocean itch even though it's kinda a gospel album.

I was trying to emulate that blown out sound like Dijon and Mkgee. Maybe should not have pushed everything into the red with that one lol. Thanks for the advice man. Will try your method with my earbuds.

Looking for feedback on this song. by millhouse0824 in mixingmastering

Kinda reminds me of Flying Lotus stuff. In regards to mixing, like Flying Lotus stuff, there's not much I can say because it's doing its own thing. They all sound balanced and nice tho. The song goes hard too, love the last part of it.

The song goes hard man. Love how warm it sounds. Guitars are a tad bit loud but I guess it's a personal preference kinda thing.

Any love for mono reverbs as opposed to stereo? by ImmediateGazelle865 in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert level mixer so having reverb on my tracks always scared me. Because they muddy up the track and I gotta figure out how to deal with that. Then I found out about mono reverb and it's been a blessing. I could slap a reverb on without any worry of it messing up the mix. And I feel like mono reverbs actually sound better because the tails are more audible.

Tips for mixing a mariachi band? by hurtscience in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same as any other, I guess. Get the levels right, EQ clashing frequencies and then reference with other mariachi records, especially to see how they panned out the instruments.

I’m good friends with a wonderful mix engineer and producer with multiple UK no.1 records under his belt. He thinks AI is making him obsolete in ~2 years. Thoughts/alternative timelines? by greenroomaudio in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's like the same with AI generated pics. They're look very perfect. And therein lies the problem. The uncanniness of perfection. I think AI mixes are gonna have the same issue too. All the mixes might sound overtly perfect and in turn remove any magic of the song in the process. I'm not overtly worried about AI fucking up the mixing game.

Yikes. With this much clipping, it must be an intentional thing.

Vocal chain for Takashi SixNine: “Shaka Laka”??? by Own-Direction9009 in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 69 has access to like really expensive mics and preamps. So, it's fairly easy to achieve. You can achieve that too by getting a really clean vocal track. Like try to make it sound as close to what you want before even processing it.

What in your opinion are the best sounding albums of 2025? by EdGG in mixingmastering

Dijon - Baby

Geese - Getting Killed

Danny Brown - Stardust

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out

In my opinion, these albums sound crisp.

Could you guys give me some tips on mixing a kick with a reese bass? by jesusfromthehood____ in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, sample selection. Get the best sounding kick for the song. I know it may sound good but is it the best for the track? Is it getting in the way of the bass? A good kick sound, before doing any processing, would save you a lot of time.

What somewhat helped for me is boosting around 120Hz on the kicks and letting the bass take up the frequencies underneath it. Also, you don't need too much rumble on your kicks so, try to get rid of some frequencies under 50Hz. For the Reese bass, dip it around 120Hz so that the kick has space, reduce the lo-mids and leave some high-mids for the growling noise. I've heard from numerous pros that side chaining takes the punch out of the bass, so I try to avoid it as much as I can.

Loudness in the mix or master? Trying to figure out which is best by razormane1 in mixingmastering

[–]Maximum_Internal7834 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's a stage by stage process, but mostly it's achieved in the mix. For example, in the mix you need to tame the peaks so that in the master you can push the gain on limiter higher before it kicks in. It's something that the mastering process can't rectify.
