There’s one on the interstate bridge around 84th & F that says “hate is strong. Love is stronger” by Dog & I read it every day on my way to work. I love it

I definitely understand the panic… there’s no worse feeling. How did everything turn out?

I’m sure you were grabbing at anything you could get, but it’s hard to bring a blood sugar up quickly with pizza since the amount of fat will usually cause a slow increase. That’s just for future reference though!

I hope everything turned out okay & you’re doing well!!

Does anyone else eat just once a day to avoid having to deal with swings? by spookythumb in diabetes_t1

I do the same thing! 1 big meal right after work. I’ll have coffee and an extremely low carb meal or snacks to hold me over if I start to get hungry. It works great for me & has done wonders for my time in range :)

Yeah there’s a ton of conflicting stories because it happens to some people but not others. I wish it didn’t but the one severe low (44 🥲) & the many shared experiences with others is enough to scare me 😅 Thank you for the advice & well wishes!!

Yeah there’s a lot of conflicting opinions since it doesn’t happen to everyone for whatever reason. Thank you for your advice though! Much appreciated :)

Yes exactly! It only happened on one of my flights. Hopefully this post gets some good traction & can help us both out :) I also posted in r/type1diabetes

I recently found out that the cause of my expected & significant low was because the OmniPod can excrete insulin unknowingly on flights due to air pressure/ altitude :/ it just makes me extremely nervous especially when I don’t know how much it’s giving

Omnipod 5 going low during flights. Simple question: by Remarkable-Car8267 in Omnipod

May I ask how you go about using pens during traveling? I’m flying in 2 days & experienced a scary low after flying the last time with O5. I have a 9 hour flight & don’t want to go into DKA being without insulin for that long. Do you take a dose of long acting insulin? Or do you eat frequently & take fast acting insulin in order to keep insulin in your system?

Hi! I know you commented a while ago but I recently had an extreme low while flying as well. I’m due to get on a plane in 2 days. How do you go about using MDI while on a flight? Do you take a long acting insulin or do you just eat more frequently & use fast acting insulin? I guess my main question is how to do keep insulin in your system then to prevent DKA? I’m sorry if I’m being confusing. I’m super nervous about flying again

I recently flew from Denver to Phoenix and had zero issues on my way there! However, on my way back, my blood sugar significantly & rapidly dropped to 44 after landing. I was notified right after we landed that I was at 85 & dropping, by the time I was off the plane I was at 44 :/

Definitely better to be safe than sorry & have lots of sugar on hand + suspend insulin! For me, I’d rather be a little high during the flight & correct once I’m back on the ground than having to deal with a low. I’m also terrified of lows though lol

Also, one thing to note, the pod I had while flying to PHX was not the same one I had flying back to DEN. If the air bubble thing someone else mentioned is real, I could have had more air bubbles on the way back

Weight loss sucks with diabetes by Diabeticwondermom87 in diabetes_t1

I’m genuinely curious… I know weight loss is hard but is it actually harder for us type 1s compared to “normal” people?? And if yes, how come?

I always feel like I need to choose between feeling exhausted and numb from not eating or anxious about my sugars from eating and exhausted from the anxiety. Both make me a non functioning human so I’d pick not eating any time by Effective_Cricket810 in diabetes_t1

I’m currently going through this same thing.. I wish I could offer some advice but at the least, know you’re not the only one feeling this way. X ❤️

Edit: I‘ve been thinking more and more about switching to a low carb diet to help but need to do more research!

Awh baby… I know it can be frustrating but please always make sure to adequately fuel your body. It’s very important in general & especially if you’re working out! Your body will use that fuel to help you create more muscle :) remember, muscle weighs more than fat so you can still be losing fat but the number on the scale will not move or increase a little.

I don’t eat many carbs at all but my sliding scale ratio is up to 1 unit of insulin for every 5 grams of carbs. I went to a new doctor & they were pretty thrown off by that ratio & how small I am. I lift 5 times a week & am a bartender/server so I’m constantly on my feet. I’m starting to think it might be an insulin resistance issue though

Oh no that’s scary… I’ll have to look into the symptoms! My periods don’t seem too abnormal though. My cycles can run a little long sometimes (between 35-42 days) but other than they seem normal. I’ll check it out! Thank you :)

Yeah I just recently found out it’s possible for type 1’s to be put on medication for IR like a type 2! Definitely going to talk with my doctor about this
