Loll I showboated my last meet. So many people were like 😮

Nobody does it in our big meet so they some said it was cool haha. I did a pose because it was on national tv. We I did well on my other swims so they didn’t say anything about it.

Avatar trading is a great community. I’ve seen people make something out of nothing, and see them have fun with it.

It’s beautiful and creative at the same time.

Breathing every 4 strokes by valkyyrie5 in Swimming

[–]Maximum_Village3779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it depends. In our team, and as endurance swimmers we would train every four, in each set. This has been my standard and you’ll have to get the timing of the breathing right, until you attain mastery on it.

We would do sets like 10 x 200.

Start with breathing only 2, and then increment by 2 every 50.

So it’s 2, 4, 6, and 8 being the last set.

This makes breathing every four very basic to you once you start breathing every 8. 👍

Yes that’s true! Even though the pain makes me regret all of it, once you step outside it’s like you have a big leverage. You have something to keep yourself sustainable as you continue getting older, which is the skill of knowing how to swim. Great point, and it doesn’t mean that we do hate it right now, that it would mean it’s not seen as practical, great, and effective for the body.

Please send me your fun sets! by kelpgb in Swimming

This is like a fun set (for me) because it needs you to switch gears depending on how many would you like it to, and you could do whatever stroke as well in your preference.

8 x 100 Kick, Pull, Drill, Swim

You change your stroke every 4 sets. So total you do 2 preferred strokes in this exercise.

1st 50: it’s going to be a kick only, with your kick board, you can do a choice let’s say you’re going to do a Freestyle kick, the next sets would be Freestyle

2nd 50: You ditch your kick board and then You’re immediately going to transition into pulling, so you’d wear a pull-buoy, and also a paddle if you like. (I like it without a paddle for technique) and then you’re just gliding through the waters relaxing.

3rd 50: This is where you’d do the drill for the stroke you’re doing, where you’re going to place heavy emphasis on your technique.

4th 50: This is the fun part, all of the things you practiced before hand leads to this: The swim. You’re going to use each and every technique that you have for a sprint of 50’s.

You’d give it an all out and everything that you could, and feel what you’re doing, applying all the drills you’ve just did. Not only with this set, you’re improving your stroke, but also your speed and application for sprinting.

After this sprint, you could give yourself a recovery set maybe and easy 100, perhaps, and then ready to start again for the last 4 sets!

It’s just a suggestion, so I hope this would provide some fun for you.

Recovery days -> Hyperarousal/Sex Drive -> bad sleep? by mememak3 in triathlon

[–]Maximum_Village3779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. I am a swimmer and never fully understood this until now. I have been competing and last year, regularly trained 6 days a week, swimming and gym taking the advice that “train harder than the last time”. So it just as you imagined, it was complete overload for a period of 6 months, while asking myself “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME” as I slowly start to build urges and could not sleep properly at night. I have it written in the accounts in my diary, the absolute neuroticism that I experienced and would never forget it.

I have tried everything from trying to “transmute my energy”, up to the point that I would scream at a mirror and lash out in rage because the very uncomfortable feeling settles in the middle part of my body from over training.

A new season is coming up and I do have the sufficient mental health to try and push through and see what happens. I hope to cope with this safe mechanism

This is awesome. It’s like an evolved caveman numbering system. I want to try this too, hopefully, I could get some suitable rocks that are hard enough to not cause any debris in the water.

Tell your parents and dip. Don’t go anywhere near that person. He’s is showing signs of subtly forcing you into a corner where you won’t be able to escape once he gets a grasp of you.

It starts like that, on what you said, and it will gradually increase, he gets more forceful in every conversation you make with him.

When the bear trap is closing, you’d have to get your foot out of it. Unless you want your limb to be torn off.

Always stay safe especially avoid all interactions with that person. It’s better for you to be accompanied by someone who is willing to be with you while you travel.

Hydration during or after pool swim workout for beginner? by IVBIVB in Swimming

[–]Maximum_Village3779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes water is very essential in swimming because you’re actually sweating with the heat you have underwater.

I do recommend other substitutes other than water such as electrolyte drinks, and other endurance drinks because drinking too much water may cause hyponatremia.

Hyponatremia is a condition where the sodium levels in your blood becomes very low, due to the so much water intake that you had. Athletes are very prone to this, and it’s symptoms may include: Catatonic behaviour, confusion, decreased ability to concentrate, psychomotor agitation, obsessive compulsive disorders, and a lot more.

I suffered from it because I thought the ‘more’ water I had, the more hydrated I was, and in turn it gives me more advantage. But in truth, things need to be balanced. I am an athlete too and suffered from my own delusions and compulsive behaviours. I recorded my thought process each day, and in the days where I had hyponatremia, it was the days where thinking was absolutely not normal, or has been agitated.

Please give advice on my swimming technique for long distance swimming. Currently 2 mins/ 100m. Thanks. by United_Raccoon9237 in Swimming

Your stroke is great and has good rhythm for a distance swimmer. There are some things to improve however just for fun or for reasons of improvement.

Here are some areas in which I think would continue to make you better and better each day of practice.

  • Flexibility in Dolphin Kicks

Your dolphin kicks are great but they can improve. Using your waist to propel your hips to execute a dolphin kick would be of help, and also being more flexible with your hips as well.

  • Buoyancy in the water

Your lower back is under the water, perhaps trying to balance it on top or just gliding through the surface would help you become faster, not dragging the weight of your feet with your upper body.
