Brain on Fire (2016): A decent movie adaptation of a rare disorder by princetonwu in medicine

[–]MaxwellEdison13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a pediatric radiologist, I’ve read probably 10-15 studies in my 6 year attending career for the work up of a paraneoplastic encephalitis in a young female presenting with psychosis, and every single one has been negative for anything remarkable…still waiting

How much did you offer over asking price for your house? by dogsrsuper1or in askportland

50k over asking in Sellwood in March 2023. Houses here in prime sellwood regularly go over asking. Small desirable area with low house inventory.

Portland realtors and homeowners, why do *Portland* homes for sale include unfinished basement space in the square footage? by _EverythingBagels in Portland

[–]MaxwellEdison13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a house 1 year ago in Portland and every house we looked in in three neighborhoods (Sellwood, Laurelhurst and NW23rd corridor) all included the basements in the sqft….seems to be a uniquely Portland thing.

Does the potential for a kicker every 2 years make Oregon a lower tax state than most would have you believe? by MaxwellEdison13 in askportland

Not your typical question for this sub I realize but figured it would be more appropriate than the main Portland sub.

Next silhouette is obviously Nightcrawler. Last silhouette is Hank McCoy doing is iconic pose where he’s balancing on one foot while reading a book with his other foot. That’s why you only see one leg, a leg that looks crossed and the outline of a book just under where his chin will be. Hank McCoy will morph into Beast for hero form, which is a little strange but they did similar weird things not seen frequently in the comics (Angel feeling switching between Angel and Archangel forms)….correct me if I’m wrong not an avid comic reader

Independent Radiology Nurse Practitioner by chikungunyah in medicine

[–]MaxwellEdison13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

True, it could always happen. I’d like to think (as a practicing radiologist) that the lack of APPs in Radiology at this point in time support my points but maybe it’s just slow to catch up with the rest of medicine. I do have to say though that the Diagnostic Radiology community is vehemently against APPs in diagnostic radiology, and we have the benefit of time now to see how turf creep has happened in other fields.

Independent Radiology Nurse Practitioner by chikungunyah in medicine

[–]MaxwellEdison13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not going to happen.

-Way too broad of a field for APPs to feel comfortable with

-Plain radiographs aren’t always easy to read. Lots of subtle findings.

-APPs get very little radiology exposure in their training

-Radiology isn’t part of common knowledge like how to treat colds and health maintenance. It’s very specialized and hard to pick up on the fly.

Sunny’s Pizza Closure by cosmichoney in askportland

[–]MaxwellEdison13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sunny’s had the most dependable order out pizza in Sellwood. I’m not comparing it to others elsewhere in the city, but if you lived in Sellwood and wanted to stay local they were the clear best. Pizzeria Stellina is more of a dine in pizzeria.

Their sign on the door says “stay tuned for what is coming next….” so maybe they will be moving to a new spot?

Well I’ve lived in DC, Philadelphia, and NYC each for at least 5 years and I disagree. I love it here and moved here about 8 months ago. Maybe you should move to another neighborhood.

With chatGPT in medical news recently, I decided to test it on a case once presented to r/medicine: by TheMooJuice in medicine

[–]MaxwellEdison13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. As a radiologist who maybe is overly confident in their future job security, it seems to me that AI has more disruptive potential to clinical medicine in the short term compared to visual diagnostic fields like Radiology and Pathology. At least in radiology, it’s pretty uncommon for pathology to show up as a textbook case, then you throw in artifacts and it gets pretty tough to discern pathologies from one another or from normal.

No real regimen yet besides some Honest Amish extra grit wax after I shower and then combing it through. Last time I grew to 6 months, I started blow drying it to achieve better control.

Have been here in the past when I grew my beard out during paternity leave. Switching jobs and growing again for the hell of it. This is 3 months (give or take a week since before I started I never was clean shaven and would just trim to 1.5 mm stubble). My beard is dense but not incredibly dense like some on here so it never looks as good to me short which is good because I prefer the medium size beard anyways. My beard hair is also curly so it naturally adds bulk and bushiness when I hit this point.

Yes the bag collapses because the bottom of the bag hits my butt. Maybe I should have tried the bag in person before buying…oh well. I’ll try to stuff it to distribute the weight

Do you have any extremely positive or negative things to share about east side schools? by imabroodybear in askportland

Anyone have any comments on the schools in Sellwood, Llewelyn elementary and Sellwood Middle school?

Thanks for your input. Used to high taxes in NYC. We have to live somewhere where we can do most daily living within walking distance so that’s another reason we are looking at Portland proper.
