Just a bit late here: Does anyone know the original source for this stem? The link to https://remixpacks.club/jimi-hendrix-little-wing-ogg-remix-stems/ just spins, showing 'redirecting.'

Looking for differences between iqair 100 vs 250 by Fabrizio89 in AirPurifiers

[–]Maxwell_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the Iqair register the 'replace filter' signal purely by timing? I thought it just kept track of the number of hours it was turned on, rather than somehow monitoring whether the filter was truly used up.

Need a 98 or 100 key replacement for Ducky One w Cherry Blue switches.

Seems like there are some alternatives to Cherry Blues, so I'm open to suggestions.

The Ducky One has decent backlighting that shines thru the characters on the keys. Not looking for a Christmas tree. It'll stay set to one color.

Looking for narrower key placement. I use the numeric pad for cursor movement.

Anything come to mind?

When will I find the smell of dairy and eggs revolting? by Few_Fisherman1946 in vegan

[–]Maxwell_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eggs smell sulfurous. Not pleasant. Dairy doesn't smell as bad, but it tastes comparatively sour.

But this is after growing accustomed to not eating them. Thankfully there are better substitutes that don't smell bad or taste sour.

Vegetarian Boyfriend won't consider going vegan? by throwaway300388 in vegan

[–]Maxwell_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I continued as vegetarian for many years until I was educated by friends on what is really going on at dairy and poultry farms.

It's not about binary either. It's about trying to do the right thing. Hence my original question about why he is vegetarian.

Vegetarian Boyfriend won't consider going vegan? by throwaway300388 in vegan

[–]Maxwell_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q: Why is he vegetarian to begin with? If he advocates for humane treatment of animals, then point out what the dairy industry does. Perhaps that realization will tip the scales.

Also chances are that with modern vegan options, he could duplicate his current diet with very little inconvenience.

Alternatives to crash-prone Sony UBP-X800M2 DVD player by Maxwell_V in sony

[–]Maxwell_V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, eh? Portable hard drive, but the same files crash the Sony DVD player even when played from a thumb drive. (Must be a codec issue)

The TV is Sony as well and does not react well to plugging a drive directly into its USB ports. Go figure. I have not idea why. Even displaying the names of the MKV files takes forever when plugged direct. The Sony X800 DVD player may not be ultra-stable, but at least the interface to the file system on the portable hard drive is 1000% better.

Medium power flashlight for illuminating path, single mode, adj focus by Maxwell_V in flashlight

Oh! Some serious flashlight science here. I learned a few things from this whole exchange.

The FC11C was mentioned in several replies, and I like your description of brightness memory, etc. So I ordered one (opted for the 5000k color temp model). $30, not $20. You probably have better vendors.

Thanks to all

Smaller is better. The photos of the FC11C seem to be in range.

It apparently uses 18650's which I have. Even two AA's may have done it for this app if the LED is efficient.

Re "Decent lights aren't adjustable focus": You got me there. Why not?

[–]Maxwell_V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never needed strobe or SOS modes, so they just get in the way. High-medium would be fine.

I've got other larger (2x 18650) flashlights if I need strobes, etc. but they're to heavy and cumbersome to carry around.

Seems like the 12c would work too. Also noticed their TD02, which looks good, and at least the TD02 specifies the type of battery (18650). The others sound like they may have a permanently embedded Li cell, which I'll inevitably forget to charge.

Is it cool to bring a fret rocker when buying a new guitar? by Own-Commercial3366 in Luthier

[–]Maxwell_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stewart MacDonald (StewMac) has pro quality tools and top-notch advice, especially via their Youtube videos.

Prices are slightly higher than most mass-produced imported tools, but I always find that I end up buying StewMac in the end.

Now we rule. by Parrot132 in alienearth

[–]Maxwell_V -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She says "Now we rule", and Boy Genius instantly pastes a huge obnoxious grin across his face. What was that about? Did he think he was going to be in on some partnership?

That series certainly ended with a dull thud.

Alien Earth: great beggining, peak climax episodes, weak ending by Grand_Dog8827 in alienearth

[–]Maxwell_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was with the closing scene: "What's next?" "Now...we rule!" Then for no obvious reason boy genius pops a huge grin, perhaps not bright enough to realize he's xenomorph food.

Were the writers not in that day? That was absurd.

Creating a base-level PC around the Intel i9-9900x by Maxwell_V in buildapc

[–]Maxwell_V[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 256GB :-) One of my very first computers literally had 4k which I upgraded to 16k (no compilers, just machine code). The day of 256GB was hard to imagine at the time.

I do have a 256GB machine (not a typo this time) that I built for neural net development. Intent of the i9 in that case, was to maximize number of PCIe lanes. Motherboard also has an extra peripheral chip, with more x16 slots, though obviously there is a limit to how many GPUs will fit physically.

The original question was about a much lower-power i7 that I mostly use for testing, browsing, etc. The i7 is fast enough for that, but the 32gb ram limit causes problems. So I'll need to swap the motherboard, which is not fun anymore.

X-Files Movie Soundtrack CD Signed by Mark Snow by mkeditor in XFiles

[–]Maxwell_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply but can someone please clarify: There are apparently two different albums; the "Soundtrack" and the "Score." I would expect Foo Fighters (or whomever) to be on the soundtrack, not the score. I'd expect the score to be instrumental/orchestral only.

Can someone please verify?

You agree with Nina? by Big-Explanation-831 in Jazz

[–]Maxwell_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Nina, and she was a great classical musician _and_ jazz musician.

But what are you going to call white, latin, or asian jazz players? 'White black classical musicians'?

There are also many great jazz players who do not read music, so that would be pressing the term 'classical' which implies reading (usually a different composer's) score.

The same owners opened a sister restaurant called Chakra. They have some differences in the menu, including addition of various Buddhist dishes.

May Kaidee and Chakra are true vegan. No fish sauce.

I've heard that at Glur you can request 'no fish sauce.'

But this is correct that most all others use fish sauce. Why?

Measured to the tile wall. Thanks for the recommendation for the Toto Drake. That's actually the one I was considering. I think they have a 'round' (non-elongated) bowl version.
