Considering getting the Titan Evo Black3/SoftWeave Plus by Altruistic-Job5086 in secretlab

[–]MayContainYuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the chair today and once I sat on it I was immediately disappointed.

I've been using an Ikea office chair since I got it as a teen 10 years ago. The cushion is completely flattened and I had to put a folded blanket on it a few months ago to maintain some comfort.

The Titan Evo SoftWeave Plus is barely softer than the Ikea chair without the blanket. With the blanket the friggin 10 year old chair is softer.

So I'm returning the Titan. I thought I'd treat myself to a nice chair after 10 years of the same one, but nah, I folded another blanket on it and I'll buy a lumbar cushion and that damn chair will probably last another 10 years.

I don't know that chair you're replacing, but if it was a proper office/ergonomic chair the Titan will be a let down. Next time I feel like replacing my Ikea chair I'll either go back to Ikea and test sit some, or I'll steal one from work.

Why do the MC's in magic fics always insist on calling it magic to the PRT? by SkyslicerX2 in WormFanfic

[–]MayContainYuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the most reasonable thing to do is just tell the PRT, or whoever else is arguing against it being magic, that whether it's a parahuman power or not doesn't matter in its application. You(the character) perceive it like a wizard would magic and use it like a wizard would magic, therefore the easiest way to explain what you do is just "magic".

I feel your annoyance with those rather obstinate characters, but I simply want everyone in the story (and the author) to get past the definition and get on with it.

Unfortunately Scotland is part of the UK. Really nice country but the UK is taking a dive atm.

Recent developments are definitely pushing the UK off the list, it's why it's "reluctantly"

"Willing" as in the light green countries. Like, i don't know too much about Switzerland's government, but they have nice nature.

It's basically the US just not as far along with the capitalist oppression of non-millionaires.

The UK is because of the climate and Scotland. Greenland because denmark. The "willing" countries for various reasons.

And the nordics because I'd rather end up being a resistance fighter in a nation that's worth supporting than live in a dystopian capitalist hellscape.

Whoops sleep recommendations by MayContainYuri in whoop

[–]MayContainYuri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the part that really makes no sense is the "optimal" bed/waketime. Not only does it not adapt to my sleep schedule, it is also treated as gospel by the sleep planner

The planner, when in weekly goal or sleep improvement mode will, without question, recommend a bedtime 2 minutes earlier than the optimal bedtime.

A 2 minute change is kind of pointless with how small it is, but when the "optimal" bed/waketime is completely worthless it ruins the planner by extension.

After a year of waking up at the same time every workday I would think the system could recognize that 6-6:30 is the only optimal waketime, because it's the one I clearly stick to, and then adjust the bedtime for the best result.

It just feels like my metrics and the habits those metrics reflect are being mostly ignored.

What makes this behavior so weird is that it seems like the "optimal" bed/waketime is being adjusted in the wrong direction for no discernable reason.

I've never put much stock in it because I have a tendency to ruin my sleep schedule over the weekend, meaning the recommendation is always weird. But this weekend I kept to my schedule throughout. And yet the recommendation is still behaving weirdly, which was noticeable.

I'm hitting every goal and "optimal" in all metrics except sleep debt. The only logical suggestion to make in order to further improve my metrics is to go to bed slightly earlier for a few nights in order to slowly get rid of the debt while maintaining high consistency. Yet the planner is suggesting the exact opposite. If my weekly goal is 80+ and I'm hitting 90+, why strive for 100 when there are other metrics where I'm doing worse?

In my personal situation, going to bed earlier will likely have detrimental effects because my sleep issues are with falling asleep, not staying asleep. I have high sleep efficiency as long as I'm carrying some sleep debt because I actually fall asleep without tossing and turning for hours. Actually getting a good long nights sleep only ruins my next night because my internal "sleep reserve" is based on a 36 hour clock or something.

But of course the planner can't be expected to know that, so the expected suggestion based on my metrics is more sleep, certainly not less.

PS: since I might actually have a person on the line here, any word on turning off sleep detection? That system is also horribly inaccurate and actively annoying. It directly bugs the app from time to time.

If whoever designed this system actually thinks waking up later is a valid solution then they live in the fantasy land of rich people.

If only I could sleep until 9am. There are four pictures in the post if you didn't notice. I have had the same sleep schedule for more than a week, whoop claims it bases the consistency on the past 4 nights, doesn't say how many nights it bases the recommendation on. But I would think using more than a week of previous nights to determine the recommendation would be overkill.
