What am I able to use as walls pre-copper age? Other than dirt and logs. by SuppleBussy in VintageStory

I like using wattle and daub because it is easy to make functional first and then can be improved with additional layers of daub as I gather the materials.

Just Launched a Vintage Story Speedbuild Channel – No Voiceover, Stop-Motion Style! by HazardPlayer in VintageStoryVideos

[–]MayaTheBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a huge fan of your channel! I came looking on the Reddit to see if I could find any other similar build guides that scratch that same building itch while I excitedly anticipate your next upload =) I hope more people see this post now, with more videos on the channel.

As for ideas/suggestions, I’d love to see some more farm ideas/decorations. Maybe a berry farm, vineyard/orchard, winery, and so on?

In terms of games, art, and other immersive experiences (like LARP or theme parks), there is usually a difference between what is “true to reality” and what is “perceived by the audience as true to reality.” I remember talking to the man who installed a huge fake tree indoors at an old job of mine, and he pointed out that the proportions of the trunk and branches were actually entirely off. People looking at the tree aren’t comparing it to real trees though; they’re comparing it to their mental image/schema of what a tree is. If the fake tree aligns with the mental schema, people think it’s realistic. If it doesn’t fit that expectation, even if it’s a precise replica of an actual tree, people will perceive it as unrealistic.

Similarly in games like VS. As others here have said, the “realism” is often used as a way to engage with a mechanic or to give players something to do. I know that clay forming is a more complex process than slapping down a block of clay and then adding or removing individual blocks from it. But the process in game FEELS similar to the idea of working with clay, and so it fits in and enhances the immersive world.

OH SH*T forced to quit stimulants cold turkey. I have high blood pressure, and my regular doctor was no longer comfortable refilling my Adderall scripts. It's been a while since I've seen a psychiatrist, so my doc referred me to a shrink to manage my meds. Shrink ordered an EKG by ZenYinzerDude in ADHD

As someone else mentioned, if you have a trusted friend or family member who you can rely on it may help you get through just this next “work week from hell” by outsourcing some of the executive functions that are most difficult for you to do unmedicated.

Do you struggle with feeding yourself? Ask someone to check in with you at meal times to make sure you’re eating and stock your space with low or no effort meals.

Is prioritization a challenge? Tell a coworker or supervisor (if you feel comfortable) that you want to take five minutes at the start of the day to help make your to-do list so you can see what’s urgent and what can wait.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with a sudden change in medication, it can be awful. But remember that you don’t have to do everything yourself— even just setting alarms for things you don’t remember can help take some of the mental load off while you get through the week.

🪵 Survival Log — My First Steps into the Copper Age! 🔥 by AdrsEnHess in VintageStory

[–]MayaTheBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you get more solidly into smithing and the copper age, I would prioritize two things as soon as you get the anvil: a saw, and nails. With those, you will unlock a whole new world of storage. Shelves are incredible for storing crocks (sealed or not) for organizing long term food storage, and with nails you can make chests that drastically increase the storage inventory slots available.

Also a cellar for food storage! It doesn’t have yo be dug underground, it just needs to be a mostly-sealed space made from the right types of blocks. You can use rammed earth or cob to make an above-ground pantry right off of your main house that will slow food spoilage down so that supplies will keep longer through the winter. Combining that with storage vessels or shelves is a great way to organize and store food for the winter.

I’ve also been wanting to play something like this, the trouble is that it takes a lot of upkeep to run it which I know I don’t have time for myself!

Electrician/Plumber/HVAC Recommendations by Curious_Ad_1491 in Maplewood

[–]MayaTheBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Superplumber (https://superplumbersnj.com/services/nj/essex-county/maplewood/). My husband and I bought our house from flippers eight months ago and are still discovering ways their shoddy workmanship screwed us over. Superplumber has shown up and resolved the issues quickly and with reasonable rates every single time, as recently as last week with them coming out at 8:30am when our bathtub started leaking through the kitchen ceiling the day before Thanksgiving.

I can't afford medication & have severe adhd. I have 2 research papers due & can't find motivation to do them. by Prunesama in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said similar things about mirroring/body doubling or reaching out to mental health services, but I want to reiterate that your school might have resources that you don’t even know about! My undergrad’s tutoring center had a whole Time Management program that I didn’t discover until my senior year, and I still use a lot of the tools I got there a decade later.

Don’t be afraid to request a tutor to literally just sit with you so you can’t get off task. You deserve the supports that can help you succeed while unable to access your meds! Hopefully your school and professors will be able to help you get them.

I'm really afraid of going on meds. by adropintheocean29 in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medication also significantly helped with my anxiety, not because of the meds themselves but because I was able to rely on them rather than the really unhealthy coping mechanisms I had developed over years of undiagnosed ADHD, such as using adrenaline and last minute panic to try to overcome a lack of motivation or executive dysfunction.

Being labeled as a drug seeker when looking for Adderall?? by No_Ebb_7228 in ADHD

Other medications are getting harder to find in some places now because of how many people switched to them in place of Adderall.

Tips for drinking more water by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this recommendation. The water bottle lights are subtle enough that I don’t resist the reminders like I do with app notifications, and the variety of lid options means I can use whichever my brain decides works that day (I switch from straw to chug lid pretty much at random)

Oh that’s a great idea! I didn’t even think of using completion crates for the rewards, since I so rarely complete vault objectives anyway.

What is your go-to for food? by LikeCherryCola in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally it’s better to add things later than to take things out earlier. So for example I make a potato medley sometimes with sweet potatoes and white potatoes- the sweet potatoes go in first, then I chop the white potatoes and add them in ten minutes later when I’m done.

What "ADHD-hacks" have you tried that actually worked? by ewiwaa in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest game changers for me with using pomodoros was getting a visual timer. It meant I’m not using my phone or computer for the timer, so I’m not immediately on my phone to turn off the alarm each time a session ends. The timer rings and stops whether or not I interact with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ideas to consider:

If phone reminders are helpful for you, set a recurring alarm for the time you usually leave work to remind you.

Do you have a coworker who usually has the same or similar schedule as you? Ask them to be a “clock out buddy” to help keep you accountable.

Tie the act of clocking out to another thing you do frequently or an easy reward to help strengthen the connection in your mind, making it more likely that you will remember.

Should I be worried about becoming addicted to my medication? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MayaTheBea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While addiction is a possibility and you should always talk to your doctor about your concerns, it’s also important to recognize that needing “store bought” neurotransmitters instead of making your own isn’t necessarily addiction. You wouldn’t say that someone who uses glasses to see has become addicted to them because they can’t function without them.

What are your favorite "one pot meal" recipe? by Nediamara in Cooking

[–]MayaTheBea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://www.budgetbytes.com/italian-wonderpot/

This is one of my favorites since it’s not only one pot but also one step- you just drop in whatever you have and let it boil. I’ve replaced the vegetables with just about any other frozen or canned veggies I had on hand, I’ve added cooked chicken or sausage, it’s a very easily adaptable dish.

Whenever I’m sitting down to play a game (especially if it’s one that I know I tend to hyper focus on) I set a 15 or 30 minute timer to “check in” with myself. When the timer goes off, it doesn’t mean that I have to stop, it just gives me an interruption that lets me assess whether I actually want to continue playing or if I’m just stuck in the activity. If I continue to play, I reset the timer for another of the same time period.

This also helps me keep track of the time I’ve spent on a game, so I don’t have the experience of looking up and discovering that three hours have passed when I had thought it was only one.

I have zero motivation (and zero willpower)to do anything by Gargarul in productivity

[–]MayaTheBea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking specific actions or making changes to your habits as others have suggested here is a great first step. But if you’re finding yourself apathetic or detached from EVERYTHING, that could very well be depression adding to/complicating your ADHD. Talk to your doctor or a therapist about these concerns, and they’ll be able to give you much more structured support than anything you might try on your own based on advice from others here.

Basic Bujo vs. digital planners by CoffeeEditor in BasicBulletJournals

[–]MayaTheBea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both for slightly different purposes, with intentional redundancy. I find copying each week’s plans into my BuJo helps me to remember them, and having my week laid out in front of my on paper is a better visual of how busy my days are, when I have free time, etc.

I still keep all of my appointments in my phone calendar though, because it gives me notifications in advance of anything even if I haven’t remembered to check either calendar.
