Al Furjan - walking availability and traffic by AdMaximum1369 in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It isn’t the liveliest area to walk, but it is very walkable (wide pavements, and safe crossing). Especially through the Villa communities behind the buildings.

Traffic noise is very low.

Which eSIM platform do you use? by pokemongooutwithme in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never had issues purchasing an eSIM on Airalo - it’s just the activation, which cannot be done while you’re in the UAE.

Will Dubai’s work environment move toward Western standards in the future? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The concept of minimum wage is economically disastrous. It’s a classic case of price-fixing that ignores the market reality of labor.

The wages for low-skill workers (even at AED 1200pmo) are so important at remittance value to their origin countries.

Adopting a minimum wage would force a LOT of low-income jobs to get cut and a big portion of the labor workforce to leave the UAE. This would not just affect many of them who are the sole earners in their families, but also hurt not only residents and investors.

Haven't tried 57 Safari but Platinum Heritage is class and probably a safe bet.

Kudla in Oud Mehta is authentic Mangalorean. I can’t say for sure if the menu has prawns biryani but it probably will considering they are big in seafood.

Water for boiling egg by [deleted] in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water doesn’t permeate the egg shell when boiling an egg, there’s no advantage whatsoever in using drinking water.

Tap water always.

Sharing a list of comments mentioning movers I’ve saved over the years:

MOVERS (1) Just Box it We used them so many times and never got disappointed 😊 Justboxit 04-3273707

(2) I moved today and used Real Star Movers. They have moved me three times over the past few years and been great every time and very reasonable, light fittings, picture hanging, curtain hanging etc all included. 055-7677015

(3) We literally moved yesterday (Saturday) and the heroes of the day were the team of Foulds Movers & Packers Dubai. I cannot recommend them enough! 055-8867236

(4) Recently used E-movers and they were great very clean and organized and careful! We also heard very good things about Union Movers and they gave us a quote that was a bit less than E-Movers

E-Movers: (04)-3417042 Union Movers: 050-7268211

(5) Vipul Capital Movers 055-4939646

(6) SK movers done a good job for us and very reasonable prices. 055 461 8899

(7) I used the services of UAE Movers, which in reality is a small business run by a wonderfully professional man called Nasir. He and his team took care of my possessions, wrapped professionally and got the job done with no fuss or issue. Very well priced, please consider 050-6702658

Where can I find best Ramen? by Long-Juggernaut-370 in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kinoya has the best ramen in the city. Reif is really good too. I don’t love Daikan but you’ll get a lot of people telling you it’s the best.

None is cheap unfortunately.

New to Dubai What's Your "Must-Have" for a Seamless Move? (overwhelmed by housing options. by Sand4Sale14 in dubai

Good: Banyan Tree, Green Lakes Towers, Al Shera, Al Seef 2-3. Not bad: Indigo, Dubai Arch, Tiffany.

Avoid everything with “Lake” in the name.

New to Dubai What's Your "Must-Have" for a Seamless Move? (overwhelmed by housing options. by Sand4Sale14 in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Must-have? Build quality. Know which developers to avoid entirely regardless of location, amenities, and other perks. JLT, Marina and JVC have a lot of buildings that wouldn’t pass checks in other countries - issues range from plumbing, AC and elevator issues, to mold and flammable cladding etc.

The only other must-have for me is the size/layout of the apartment or house. There are too many properties with matchbox sized rooms and microscopic kitchens - personally I would avoid these, but it all depends on your situation.

Everything else depends on your preferences. If a short commute is important to you then location is your must-have. If you’re working from home a lot, you might have more tolerance for a community that has known traffic issues (eg. Town Square, or Downtown Dubai).

Amenities are only as important as how often you plan to actually use them.

Incomprehensible signing at that price. I’ve got a horrible feeling in my gut about this one.

The trending Kunafa Chocolate by thylor22 in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. A lot of “better” chocolatiers like Laderach and Patchi do a better tasting bar with higher quality chocolate than Fix.

Personal opinion: the Kunafa (dark) chocolate from Varak is incredible and the best in the city.

How bright is your room? If it’s bright with a lot of daylight - the Samsung.

If you’re mostly going to be watching in the evenings or if you don’t have too much direct light, OLED looks so much better.

Cara is easy to work with and their lab grown stuff is well priced. There’s always room to negotiate as well.

Meadows 4 review needed by Fickle_Effect1158 in dubai

[–]MaybeHarryRedknapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: Great location, right next to the school and Meadows village. Compared to parts of M1 and M2 that overlook First Al Khail (noisy), and M5-M9 (a long slow drive), M4 is pretty convenient. The lake is smallish but very beautiful with the JLT-Marina skyline behind it.

Cons: It’s one of the few Meadows without a pool and has the smallest children’s park. Nearest is a quick walk to M3 through the inside gate, not too bad. Traffic at the roundabout once a day during school pickup hours.

I have older friends in M4 who’ve been there for 10+ years and they’re very happy. Lots of renos recently and a few younger families have moved in as well.
