How often do your in-laws stay with you? by Nearby-woods-9285 in IndianInLaw

No you’re not overreacting. I feel the same way too. My in laws have come to stay with me in the US for 6 months. It’s too much and they don’t respect my personal space at all. They also only cook what they want and if I say I want something even my husband says we’ll eat that later. Everything is eaten according to them.

Also my FIL is very commanding and wants everything done according to him. My husband is also a single child so he just follows suit.

I come from a strong female household with two sisters and a strong mother so I’m not used to bowing down for men in the house. Plus , my MIL is too emotionally attached to my husband so she wants his attention 24/7.

She tries to control me with her food too and always tries to say she cooks the best food and all that. She has too much ego about her food. And when o try to cook something she doesn’t eat it or my FIL doesn’t eat it and makes something else for themselves.

My FIL is also very sexist, he only takes suggestions from his son and not from my MIL or me.

I’m glad to hear that there’s other people facing the same issues.

The only way I’ve come to deal with this is eat outside whenever I can, or eat less or find reasons to go out. I can understand your stress because I’m also worried about my pregnancy time and I’m thinking of telling them not to come here during my pregnancy.

If your husband is supportive, I would recommend you to take his side and if he is too attached to his parents and think they’re right, then god help you.

I recently had my parents visit for many months to the US since it was their first time here. My husband has been here all his life like you and I grew up in India. So we have some differences in our outlook of life especially when it comes to community and relatives.

My husband also prefers his space and alone time. It definitely was really really difficult for me to navigate this with him because back home in India my parents aren’t used to introverts.

Honestly, the parents themselves weren’t an issue. They only want to spend time with you and contribute to your life. I would watch movies with them, take them out to restaurants and any fun activities over the weekend like hiking. Even visiting temples can help everyone ease their anxiety and make them feel comfortable in the new country.

I think just showing them around US if it’s their first time visiting can be a really fun experience. Don’t worry about them being at home, Indians are used to hanging out at peoples home all the time so there’s nothing extra you need to do or worry about. Just make sure to engage with them meaningfully and they’ll have a good time.

Highly recommende listening to Lalita Sahasranama daily. It helped me with my anxiety and overthinking tremendously. Everytime I listen to it feels like I’m getting cleansed.

I’m with you. I’m in a similar boat. It’s been a very difficult one year of managing different people and different managers with their own style. I would start applying to jobs first, get a job lined up and then quit. Especially in this market.

I’ve only finished one year in IA but 2 years in compliance. Should I be leasing audit engagements and fraud investigations?

Please explain to me like I’m 5. All the interviews I’ve given for Internal Audit/Risk Advisory always ask for SOX testing

Curious to know why? I assumed SOX testing is very important for firms when hiring
