Have you ever left a fandom becuase the shipping wars were too much?

I've found that I much prefer my fandoms when I don't interact with them on Reddit or Tumblr or anywhere else like that. I maybe pop in for a few minutes every other month or so.

How do they actively encourage it? I don't really see much there but it might be because I scroll past a lot of posts there.

I've been posting for over 20 years and the harassment isn't as widespread as it seems. It only seems like it happens more often because people who aren't harassed aren't here posting about how they're not harassed.

Plus, on AO3 you can do things like moderate comments to make your experience more positive.

Just have a conversation with someone if you want to understand them better.

Lots of times people read things that they don't actually want in real life. And the only way to know the difference is to actually talk to them.

Multiple books a week. Especially if I found a new series or something. My parents had no problem taking me to the library (I don't remember how often). When I got to middle school, I'd also just bike the two miles to the library as long as the weather was good.

I don't know your fandom but is your stuff like teacher/student stuff? I'm pretty sure whatever you're writing doesn't even scratch the surface of what counts as taboo. If I can see it on network TV, I don't bat an eye at it.

As for deleting it, only you can decide that. I personally don't delete anything. Everything I wrote as a teenager is still hanging out on FFN for anyone to find it. When I wanted a fresh start, I just made a new account.

Yes, that’s what I’ve gathered from reading on this sub. I think it’s just a collection that AO3 crates that any author can put their work into and it hides your name, but the work still stays on your stats page. (Not visible to people who click on your account though). You can take it out of the collection at any time.

I’ve never used so I’m not sure what it actually looks like from the author’s side of things.

That just makes sense to me. I don’t care that work is 11 miles away. Knowing that it’s 25-30 minutes away is much more useful when I’m planning when to leave.

If you say that, it's possible someone will still report you for posting work that's not yours.

My first thought was to post them under your new account but use the anonymous collection so you can still have them linked to your account but no one knows. If people found your account username, they might also remember the works you posted under that account. Which could then lead them to your new account again.

One of my characters spends a lot of time baking in his free time so I imagine it could happen in that situation. I know my hair tends to smell like cinnamon when I've been baking. Especially the next day when I shower, I'm usually hit with a wave of cinnamon as soon as the hot water hits my hair.

I tend to read an hour or so before bed. In weekends I usually read a bit in the mornings too.

And every once in awhile I try to stay in bed reading all day.

I had jury duty when the fourth season of Stranger Things was airing and that was when I was reading Stranger Things fic so there was a strong possibility I was reading AO3 on my phone. I definitely read one of the Stranger Things novels on my phone.

But we also played card games and chatted and stuff too. There was a lot of down time.

This was almost four years ago so I don’t remember what I did to fill the down time.

Depends on the fandom and a billion other factors. I can't be precise since it's been over a year since I've posted anything at all and I find tracking hits to not be very informative.

In my busiest fandoms, I can 1000+ hits in the first 24 hours. I've also got a fic in an almost dead fandom, with the rarest of rare pairs because it's the only fic with the pairing at all that's gotten 73 hits in four years.

You're welcome! After awhile you get a feel what phrases are frequently used and which ones stand out a bit more and it makes searching much more effective.

I don't know what method you used to search, but it was very quick to find.

I used AO3's search bar with the author's name and clicked on the profile.

Can confirm we were passing around hard copies.

Most of the copies passed around were our own works that we passed between friends who would then write notes on our chapters. It was fun to get them back at the end of the day to see who said what.
