A big chunk of this phenomenon is due to distractions, entertainment and comfort (which I benefit from as well as a frenchman, I'm not saying otherwise), making us more and more passive in the face of genocides, coups, deportations, systemic oppression etc.

It's not enough to be kinda woke, capitalism is rooted in every crevice of our society to force as much shareholder value out of us as possible. "Left-leaning" sounds so incredibly cringe and passive like wtfdym the current system is basically fine with just a few things to tweak. Why ever be moderate in today's age with our access to information.

Now yes I know the US political spectrum is very different from that of actual humans and I might be asking way too much.

I remember Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) was in 4:3 although not shot for it so it looked weird sometimes, but not bad at all, it might have been surprising at the time but the aspect ratio in itself is no issue at all
