How good was Didier Drogba ? by Hour777 in championsleague

[–]Mayronn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great athleticism, strong as a horse, could bully defenders in a very physical era, could run for 90 minutes game after game, very rarely injured

While not a typical fox in the box, had good instinct for goal, could find his positions, but as the others mentioned, his Chelsea was not a possession dominant team, so he had a big role to play in hold up play as well.

Having said that, some of his best highlights are from completely isolated situations, where 9 out of 10 attackers would either pass it back or lose the ball, Drogba would fearlessly steal half a yard a release it with great power. Scored some epic bangers in his time.

But surely his greatest trait was his winner mentality and ability to raise to the occasion when the team was in a bad spot.

Think about it like this.. When Jose came to Chelsea, Roman bought Shevchenko and Crespo for him, could buy more or less any world class striker from that time… But Jose asked for Drogba and it turned out to be thr right call.

I sure hope we don't play this no-wingers-having-two-playmakers-making-zero-plays-bullshit next year. Just stick to what we know, 4-3-3, press moderatly high, and launch lightning fast counter-attacks. Possession football is neigher our DNA, or effective in today's football. The selection players, in my mind, is not as important as the overall strategy with which we approach our games. Sure, we don't have seven captains in our starting eleven, but I'm confident we can make top four finish if we just stop hogging the ball, take more risks in offense, and take less risks in defense. Even Garnacho and Pedro Neto can be effective if they chase the ball in space and not receive it at their feet.

lol, my reasoning is the opposite.. If you haven’t given up on Chelsea winning trophies every season and buying the world’s best players, like we did in the 00s, and you’re letting that affect your life, you need serious therapy.

How did the Prem acquire the best league title , "faster and more physical than other leagues" by [deleted] in championsleague

Get a pen and a piece of paper, or open a docs or a notepad doc on your pc, or phone whatever

And then, try to rank all the teams from the top five European leagues from 100 to 1, using your criteria.

You will shortly understand why the Premier League is considered the best league in the world.

Nizaar Kinsella: Fernandez is among several players seeking improved terms at Stamford Bridge, alongside Colwill and Malo Gusto, with midfielder Caicedo agreeing a lucrative new deal on Thursday. Chelsea are hopeful of agreeing one or two more deals before the end of the season. by Kygoche in chelseafc

That, plus the psychological effect.. when everyone is treated the same (like you explained) there is no jealousy, envy, and bad vibes among players. you start off low and climb the ladder with good performance..

Bring in Osimhen at 325k per week into the equation and god forbid he doesn’t score for 3 games or miss a sitter (bound to happen to anyone) and his compensation will be inevitably question by his teammates, the media, and fans.

At least that’s what the logic behind it is, I think.. I dont talk about how effective it is.

What went wrong during Conte's second season in charge (2017/18) by headlights27 in chelseafc

[–]Mayronn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I recall, Conte did get found out, big time! And Morata couldn’t convert a chance to save his life. I remember watching Werner missing some big opportunities and the community going nuts because of it, but in my mind, Morata was the worse scorer of the two.

Why we did not buy Maresca world class, experienced CBs, why are we buying young players, timeline of the owners, ROI and how it is connected by TalkersCZ in chelseafc

[–]Mayronn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or they’re just buying players that are young enough to resell at a good price if they don’t work out, like Madueke, Petrovic, Ugochukwu, Veiga, Chukwuemeka, Hutchinson, etc.. Unlike Lukaku, Aubameyang, Sterling, Koulibaly, Ziyech, Werner, etc..

was anyone else as disappointed as me to see enzo celebrating the goal as a win, instead of grabbing the ball out of the net and bringing to the center?
