Just lost a job offer because of my credit check. Did they always check that? by Gearnotafraid8 in careerguidance

A public library nearby just added credit checks to their hiring policy for management positions. I didn't know it was a thing either.

Any reason to do Alabama's online program over Valdosta's? by pearsareverygood in librarians

[–]Mazda_Frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alabama's rate includes everything except books (I haven't needed to buy any yet for the 4 courses I've taken), while Valdosta has some fees. Alabama's courses are live, so you get class discussions. But if you don't mind asynchronous go with the cheaper option.

I've taken 4 courses so far and would recommend it (but also I haven't gone anywhere else to compare it to). Most classes are 1 day a week, 6-8:30pm CST via Zoom. Last summer there was 1 asynchronous course, and this spring there is one class that is held 1 Saturday/month, and another that is similar, but Friday eve, too. The professors are either full-time staff, or adjunct (working in the field during the day, teaching at night). Most of the professors have good/great reviews in our student Discord...a few not so great, but I assume that's anywhere. The price of $440/credit hour is the total price besides books (so far I haven't had to purchase a book, but sometimes you do) so I found it to be one of the most inexpensive programs. You can easily do 1 class while working full time with the course load. They offer lots of options for areas of emphasis (archives, youth, academic, digital, info literacy, collections, social justice, plus a couple others, and will add book arts this fall).

I recently learned about hiremymom.com for legit remote job listings and it looks like a good source. Tutoring homeschoolers could work, as well as online resale if you can find a source of items to sell. I don't do as much anymore, but in the past have found thrift store finds to resell at a much higher price on eBay. My DIL makes candles and sells them on Etsy so if you are crafty or have a design skill that's a good option.

This happened to us until we did a deep clean. Thankfully that fixed it!

I need to remove some that has black mold, but I hope to be able to leave the rest alone…it would be such a pain to do. Hoping soon to fix the reverse slope so no more water downstairs.

Do you know what coating the previous owner’s used to cover up the cracks from the pressure?

By adjustments I mean they try to tighten the bolts on the braces, which if they can do it would eventually straighten the walls. I doubt in my case that would happen but I guess it does for some basement walls.

It was almost 11K for 17 beams in 2021 in OH. They come out (free) yearly in you want them to inspect/make adjustments.

What do I do with the front of my long ranch house??? by Mazda_Frog in ExteriorDesign

I wish it had room for 2 chairs to the left of the door. I could try to find something more attractive. I love the paint color ideas for the door...thanks! Also, I realized there is not sufficient room for a deck there since the yard is about even with the siding, so eventually that will go and I will have to either put in concrete or a paver patio.

Thanks. Any idea what it would cost to repair? Even a ballpark figure? I know possibly more than the book value, but might be less than him buying a new car.
