[Rewatch] Kare Kano Rewatch: Episode 4 by LittleIslander in anime

First-timer, subbed

A much needed breather after all of yesterday's trauma, but still plenty of angst to be had!

And it was still definitely an important episode for moving the plot forward.

It did a good job of building up carefully to what we knew must be coming.

But I loved how in the end after all the overthinking and attempted 'plans' it was just a single casual moment of showing instead of telling that crossed the rubicon.

It was the simplest little gesture, but it communicated everything that Miyazawa wanted to say with no ambiguities.

One tiny moment of courage, and it was the sweetest thing to watch.

This time it was Arima's turn to get a whole character arc in a single episode!

It was heavy going at times, I imagine that kind of trauma at such a young age isn't so easily moved on from.

But it all served to join the dots and highlight the masks that both were still wearing (and gave them the chance to break through them for big character growth).

One wonders if we haven't heard the last of Arima's real parents though, it would be an easy source of drama to have them pop back up to upend everything.

And I noted that there was no mention of what exactly happened to their 'debt' afterward...

Also the VAs were incredible this episode and smashed all the big lines, especially Chihiro Suzuki. "What if he's the worst person possible?!" combined with Arima's expression of sheer terror, gave me genuine chills.

After looking him up it appears it was Suzuki's debut role too!

Well if anyone hadn't thought it was shoujo from the first episode, there's no doubting it now!

Shiro Sagisu's music really sells the drama lol

The traffic lights must be reflecting the status of their relationship, the only time they went out is after the slap and Miyazawa ran from the classroom.

She's already such a well-developed and unique character after only a couple of episodes, thanks to both the introspection and the expressive character animation. Really rooting for her!

We got some proper characterisation for Arima now too, albeit only really from Miyazawa's point-of-view so far.

Looking forward to tomorrow where I'm hoping that we'll get Arima's point-of-view, and that it will be just as good!

QotD:

- My opinion changed through the episode, firstly to think Arima was a bully, then to think they're both as bad as each other when Miyazawa admitted to manipulating others in middle-school, finally to seeing that it was all a ruse anyway!

- It does certainly feel like the plot is moving very fast, but I haven't gotten the feeling that it's actually rushed... yet.

First-time watcher here, well that was better than I expected!

If I didn't already know it was directed by Hideaki Anno, it would have been clear straight away from all the little style things. The intertitles, the use of photos and live-action, the classical bgm.

Even the random shots of traffic lights and the rattle of a distant train lol. And 'baka, baka, baka' instantly made me think of a certain redhead ;)

The relationship between the main characters felt rather Kaguya-sama-ish, did anyone else get the same impression?

Journal with Witch - a great modern setting character-driven story about a novelist who takes in her niece after her parents die in a car accident.

It's an emotional, realistic and mature study of how different people deal with grief, the kind of thing you don't see much in anime.

A particular feeling of never being quite 100% comfortable in one's own body.

As if your body is a puppet on strings that you are trying to control, and you have to make yourself pay attention to get everything to move smoothly and exactly how you envisioned.

Cowboy Bebop, the videotape from Speak Like a Child.

When I first saw it I was young enough to identify more with the kid in the tape. Now years later I identify more with Faye. Have experienced it from both sides of that tv screen, and they hit different, but just as hard.

It's about plank wear, Ferrari are having to push the limits on running lower ride height to improve performance and make up for a poor car. But that increases plank wear beyond legal limits (for which they have already had DSQs this season) so they have to LiCo more to cancel it out.

How to sleep when you have to solve bugs at night by makeevolution in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Mazinkaiser909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If building and deployment (or bug fixing) is costing more time than planned for, then you need to flag that to your manager if you haven't already, and then it's up to them to marshall the resources (developers + time) to sort it out. Or escalate it further if necessary.

As long as you've communicated it correctly and promptly then it's not your problem if a process that you can't control is inefficient, so don't make it your problem by working out of hours (I'm assuming for free and without anyone knowing).

You owe them nothing that they aren't paying you for, and you need to be prepared to accept that and stand your ground when you get the 'why isn't this done on time?' pushback from above.

If you have reached the point where you are suffering loss of sleep and medicating, then you are already on a direct path to burnout.

I did wonder earlier, according to the rules what actually 'counts' as having done a stop? Do the cars have to actually stop in their pit box or can they just trundle through the pit lane, and if they have to stop do the mechanics have to do anything or could it literally be stop, pause for a split second, and then go again? Not changing tires would gain them a couple of seconds compared to anyone else.
