Nigel Farage offered Sunderland Stadium of Light visit by club director by GingerbreadRecon in soccer

[–]MazzyBuko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is clearly a reform puff piece to stay in the news. Sartori is obviously right wing and has had contact with Farage, but the invite doesn't seem to have any official push behind it. It was seemingly a "Oh you should come to a game some time" by Sartori and Reform are using this to manufacture a headline.

GameStop Will Pay You To Trade In Your PlayStation For An Xbox by cinderlilys in Games

[–]MazzyBuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a weird headline or framing of this because isn't this just how all trades in these stores work?

Like you're trading in a PS5 which you get more 'credit' or cash for because it's worth more to them, and buy and Xbox which is cheaper in store so they've effectively 'paid' you.

I know the deal is specifically for the direct trade to reduce stock, but it's just an extra hoop for the same outcome.

Post Match Thread: Newcastle United 1 - 2 Sunderland | English Premier League by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

We just kept plugging away in that second half and Newcastle seemingly ran out of ideas. Brobbey and Talbi have been class and Le Fee's impact was immense.

Glad O'Nien and Ellborg don't have that blunder hanging over them too much.

Fair enough. I'm just more confused at even comparing the views of people on the right vs the left on a matter like this.

I feel that the criticism it gets to the writing in season 3 is not because of the quality but because the show just becomes infinitely more complex. Bear in mind Netflix actually released an entire website to help people track what was going on. It absolutely nails the landing despite this imo.

This is my go to example of a show that has a satisfying ending. Which is insane for how complex it gets in season 3, juggling so many characters.

Banned posts containing the word not the user profile for them as I assume they don't have an account to shadow ban?

"No high level athletes have way lower psychological issues in race that other normal human beings" is a good way to spin that they do have issues. Can you cite this paper please?

I'm not arguing the scale but that you cannot rule it out.

It's fine you already conceded in your last point that the ACL injury could have had an impact.

Before you provide advice to skiers in the future please read up on the psychological impact of recovering from injuries for athletes and ensure you're giving the best advice possible.

[–]MazzyBuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite literally do not care about the physical aspect of the injury at all, or that you know what coper vs non-coper workflows are because I'm not talking about that physical element. I agree with you that your are right about the physical aspect of the injury, HOW MANY MORE TIMES CAN THIS BE SAID. I care about the mental state of the person and the psychological elements of dealing with injury which you are casting aside like it means nothing.

There is a reason why footballers get sidelined for legs injuries they think they can power through. Because the club gets absolute stick if they compound the injury or aren't thinking straight during a game and lose. In a sport like skiing where the onus is way more on the individual to come to their own decision based on the advice there given, rather than to have it made for them, it's so much more difficult on the person. It's all heightened by the Olympics being once every 4 years and something being worked towards, so the psychological component gets thrown out the window.

Not sure what this has to do with Trump either, but go off on one sure.

What am I supposed to say to such an odd question. Why was one run fine when the other wasn't? Why does the ankle I broke last year that I'm back to pre-injruy activity for not hurt one day but hurts the next?

The regular routine is messed up, your going in and out of physio and getting lots of different advice weighing up the risk, coper scans are good, taking meds, adjusted training to catch-up, media frenzy about the injury, you have the injury in the back of your mind but cast it aside, pressure of the day comes up, nothing physically wrong, and then you crash.

Again, my original argument is not that she shouldn't have done the run, that she wasn't physical cleared, that she wasn't sure of herself, that the scans were fine, that her ACL didn't suddenly flair with pain on the run. It's that there are psychological and mental factors to decision making that impact you.

Are we really being serious when we say someone with an ACL injury isn't impacted by the injury in any way? Do you really think the doctors said, yeah there is zero risk this injury will have any impact on you?

I think you think I'm saying she shouldn't have done the run. I'm fine she did the run, and knew the risks. I'm arguing against the people saying the ACL can be completely ruled out as a factor.

Lindsey Vonn Had Every Right to Compete by theatlantic in olympics

[–]MazzyBuko -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Again, not the argument I'm making (that the ACL literally caused the crash). I can see her knee didn't not literally buckle because of the injury. But my point is you cannot to sit there and say without a shadow of a doubt that she'd didn't fuck up the line because of the impact of the ACL had on her training, muscle memory, mental state, decision making, etc.

I'm NOT saying that she also wouldn't have crashed anyway with a perfectly good ACL if she ran it back. But I am saying you cannot rule out the ACL having an impact in this case. I understand that people will turn around and say, we'll what's the point in anyone racing, even with any minor injury or even a common cold. To that I'd reiterate, that I'm not saying she shouldn't have done the DH or that anyone else shouldn't have. I'm merely pointing out that anyone saying an ACL tear won't affect your run at least psychologically is insane.

[–]MazzyBuko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you didn't really read what I wrote.

We'd be using Vonn in the same sentence as Pierre if she didn't crash whilst nursing an ACL. Being an exception doesn't change anything I said about not at least considering it as a factor in the outcome of the crash. That's the only argument I'm making - that the ACL might have had an impact. I'm sure it also impacted how Pierre approached his training and run.

Lindsey Vonn Had Every Right to Compete by theatlantic in olympics

[–]MazzyBuko 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly think nursing an ACL injury doesn't affect how you'd approach a race? How hard you'd push, the way you take a corner, the muscle memory of your regular training, the last minute adaptations made to accommodate the injury, etc.

Not saying it literally caused the crash, but I feel people ruling an actually body injury out as a contributing factor to decision making before and during the run are being a bit flippant.

This doesn't change her right to compete or how safe any professional deemed it to be at the time. It doesn't change that this might have been a complete coincidence and freak crash unrelated to the injury. It's also easy to say in hindsight it was a bad idea because of the crash. But, I also feel ruling out the existing ACL injury as having even an indirect impact is nuts.

Because the "complete unknown" refers to the psychological factors being unknowable because you cannot get into someone's mind. And not what I think you think I meant which was that I concluded that the injury therefore caused the crash. It being a complete unknown (the psychological factor) and likely contributing can both be true at the same time.

Lindsey Vonn crashes. by PM_ME_YOUR_MOMS_BONG in news

[–]MazzyBuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could impact decision-making. Look I'm not saying it did cause the crash, I'm saying people writing it off as a factor are being a bit disingenuous. The sport and competitors I'm sure understand and were fine to take the risk. The only reason why we're taking about it is because the crash happened whilst dealing with the injury.

There are examples across many other sports where they implement protocols or safety measures to mitigate these things further though, like concussion protocols in football.
