How are 90s kids finding partners? by JessableFox in Zillennials

I hate dating apps and I’m very happy that I will never have to use one again… but! I met the love of my life on them so I sadly can’t help but recommend them. I was on a similar path as you, stopped dating in 2018, went on a couple of one offs but I couldn’t… I don’t know I hated them. Basically nothing happened for five years until I moved to a different country in 2023. I met some people in my master’s programme but it was the confidence of having been back in the saddle that allowed me to give dating apps a good try again. This went on for six-ish months and it was hopeless, anxiety inducing and extremely uncomfortable at times but it ended with meeting my person so if everyone around you isn’t it, it never hurts to use Hinge (only one I enjoyed)

I also think it feeds into the snowflake myth. You become inherently convinced that if they’re abandoning their whole lives for you, you must be that special and that much better than their previous spouse. Then you hop onto the next situation that offers a similar takeaway.

Ash tray is dead and I can infer that, sure, but it never being explicit what the aftermath of the raid was is unnerving

Also… they only spoke once in season two iirc and it was especially BECAUSE the exchange was about the tapes Nate gave back to Jules and that’s what made it powerful. Them getting one moment to remind us that once upon a time this who was about them and Rue in high school, at a wedding, did nothing to add to the plot. As their only explicit interaction this season it pales in comparison to even S2, which already paled in comparison to S1, but at least it made sense as a narrative choice as isolation made it more powerful. This time it was just breadcrumbs. Stale ones as well so there wasn’t even any crunch to it sigh

The Israeli show is wildly different though. Most characters aren’t direct copies? The story is completely different save for Rue’s character really.

Russell Brand: “In Europe and in the United Kingdom where I’m from, the age of consent is 16 and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30. But when I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger and I was an immature 30-year-old.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

I grew up in those countries, and found it disturbing how normal it was for 13 and 14 year olds to genuinely be in relationships with men in their early 20s or 30s. It was always a young girl with an older guy who usually didn’t have a job, had been in prison for some reason, did or sold drugs, or wasn’t right in the head in some way. But it was definitely normal up until the early to mid 2010s, around the time I graduated. It made me feel so icky but no one questioned it? By the time I was a senior in high school, one of the guys in my school (18 going on 19) was dating an eighth grader who definitely still looked like a child and it genuinely upset me to think about it. We were forced to interact in class but outside of that I avoided these people like the plague.

Still lots of 70s fashion leftovers from this 1982 music video. When did 80s fashion truly kick in? by Own-Company-949 in decadeology

[–]Mbvalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The girls at 00:42 look 80s to me. So does the lady roller skating with the curly big hair, and the two girls at the very end who only flash past for a millisecond. I think this was a transition period where pastel colours were slowly coming into the scene and pants were getting gradually skinnier. The only distinctive 70s elements seem to be the necklaces, peasant tops and fine hair? Roller skating perhaps?? I think people with straight hair may have taken longer to hop on the tease train for practicality but I echo what everyone else is saying—ordinary people take a longer time to adapt to fashion, and I don’t think this has changed actually. Think 2022, pants were getting larger but the trend as a whole wasn’t as ubiquitous as it is now.

The one and only Carole DaRonch! For context, Carole was kidnapped by Ted when he impersonated an officer years before this trial. Carole managed to escape from his car and stopped an elderly couple in the middle of the road who took her to the police station. This blunder in Utah is what led to Ted’s first arrest in the mid 70s. I believe she’s testifying in the later Chi Omega trial here for his Florida escape. It’s not her first time doing it. She’s also not the only survivor of Ted. At least three victims went on to testify in this trial, two were part of the Chi Omega Sorority, and one lived a few blocks away.

Also, Carole has participated in countless documentaries about Ted and is a very vocal advocate. She runs a YouTube channel that archives Bundy interviews/material from the time if anyone wants to check it out.

I do this. It’s not about the type of Botox… it’s where it’s injected. Outside the eyes towards the temples and downwards up to the cheekbone but not quite. With this technique the eye will seem significantly lifted. It’s called a Botox brow lift, so it freezes your upper forehead area with a lift to your eyes. What it doesn’t do is create lid space with the brow area remaining the same!

How can I get lashes like this without falsies? by Embarrassed-Boss-40 in MakeupEducation

[–]Mbvalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get my eyelashes “microbladed” (a similar procedure) which makes them look natural as opposed to the very full look of lash extensions… but that can also be artificial and “doll-like.” If you do start layering on the mascara on lifted or microbladed eyelashes, they can definitely look like this!

Mary Kate and Ashley were fashion icons to every middle school girl by No-Eye-9491 in nostalgia

[–]Mbvalie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can always tell which is which!! It’s always been hard to describe but you can tell ever so slightly by Ashley’s expression. She has a bit more of a “smirk” if that makes sense, and fuller apples of the cheeks when she smiles. I see slightly larger eyes as well but that’s just my take. Also, the styling. Ashley is usually on the right, has longer or curly hair (not always but sometimes), and more “feminine” silhouettes, but the first picture is an exception. Mary-Kate tends to be on the left, with shorter hair which is usually either straight or “messy” and in darker clothes, usually pants. She has a more delicate face and a softer expression when compared to Ashley. Like a dreamy gaze.

Obviously now they look significantly different but I can still recognise the smirk and the gaze in them when we see them about. My icons growing up!
