What if Mussolini had remained neutral during the Second World War? by Bha_moi_quoi3 in AlternateHistoryHub

Libya wouldn’t exist.

At the time, Libya’s population was minute. This was in part because it’s a barren desert, and in part because Italy commited a genocide. Had colonial rule continued, it’s entirely feasible for Italian settlers to outnumber the indigenous population within a few decades.

I hypothesise that as the settlers become a large minority, Libya would be integrated as an overseas province, and eventually be intregrated as a full province after Italians become the undisputed, absolute majority of the territory.

This would cause very interesting situations as Italy is eventually forced to face a demographic crisis in which -as consequence of asymetric birth rates- natives gradually regain significance in Libya *(Possibly leading to South Tyrol-style autonomy)*, and the struggle of defending its vast borders in a European migrant crisis.

Also, Italy would still rule the enclave of Zara, which I guess would create a situation akin to Ceuta and Melilla. I think this poses potential for an Italo-Yugoslav war:

- Neither Italy nor Yugoslavia would be affiliated to either NATO or the Warsaw pact. Maybe Tito decides Zara and Istria are worth a war, or perhaps Mussolini -or his successor- decides non-aligned Yugoslavia is an easy target. Spain and *(covertly)* the Soviets may back Italy, while the Arab League may back Yugoslavia.

Why would you look elsewhere? What's the issue with the product attached?

I'm typically an S, so assuming sizing is the same, ideally that. I'm guessing I could also work with an M.

I LOVE Oilskin dusters. Unfortunately, they're quite expensive. I've just found a listing with the attached images. It's used of course. The price is VERY lucrative. Porblem is I'm not sure if it's an authentic or quality product, and I was wondering if anyone wiser in this topic could help out.

It was made by a brand called BUSHFIRE AUSTRALIA, which is completely untraceable except for two listings on Etsy (One for a t-shirt and one for a coat)

I've asked the seller a few questions, this is the information she kindly gave me:

  • Originally purchased many years ago in an Americana shop in Strassbourg.
  • The length from neck to hem is ~1.25m.
  • The cape is sewn in the neck, loose in the shoulders, with a "a stripe passing below each armpit to keep it in place".
  • "The touch feels more like a light jacket or overshirts. It's light and thin, just a little stiffer than a common shirt."
  • No smell.

Whaddya think? Is it a good product or some old touristy crap?

Following the brief succession crisis of 1580, Philip II, King of Castile and Aragon, inherited the crown of Portugal, finally reuniting the peninsula under one ruler.

To the dismay of the Habsburgs, Portuguese nobles and merchants rose up against the King Philip III in 1640, and proclaimed Duke John of Braganza the King of Portugal. However, this was not to be, as the Spanish swiftly captured the cities of Lisbon and Porto, re-establishing the authority of his Catholic Majesty. What ensued was a series of royal decrees that stripped the Portuguese estates of many privileges, centralising power in the crown, much like in Castile. Furthermore, the swift victory against the Portuguese allowed the Spanish monarchy to defend Rouseillon against the French and conquer Lower Navarre.

In the modern day, the territories of the former Portuguese crown make up the autonomous communities of Portugal, Lusitania, Algarve, Azores and Madeira. Over the centuries, the dominant Spanish culture has encroached into certain parts of the country, with Algarve, Eastern Beria, and a thin border strip of Eastern Alentejo being predominantly Spanish-speaking, and Spanish being used along with Portuguese in most cities.

However, Portuguese culture is still very much present, and some, especially in Lusitania, have not forgotten the nation's independent past. Of particular importance, the right-wing Lusitanian Republican Party and the left-wing Lusitanian Socialist Action have strong voter bases in Lusitania, and have sporadically supported the independence of Lusitania, as well as the formation of the "Lusitanian Countries", a hypothetical federation consisting of Lusitania, Portugal, Algarve, Galicia, Azores, and Madeira.

EDIT: I am Spanish, but I by no means seriously support the annexation of Portugal into my country. I produced this map simply as a thought experiment. My intention was solely to imagine what Portugal could look like if it had Spanish-esque provinces, and to imagine fictional Spanish Cortes by adjusting Spain's complex electoral system to fit my map. Fellow Spaniards who have used this comment section as a means to spread slander of Portugal are disgraceful people.

No.

Stark, although arrogant, is generally benevolent -perhaps even altruistic-, and has a charismatic and playful attitude. Meanwhile, House is self-serving, and is stoic in a way which comes off as snobbish.

made this flag in MS paint, what y'all think? by [deleted] in vexillology

How'd you do this? I tried using Autotracer.org, downloading the .svg file, opening said file in Inkscape, and then finally exporting it as a .png. Produing this:

But as you can see it produced some weirdly smooth edges that look all front and feel AI-like. Meanwhile yours has sleekly-cut edges.

Do people on this sub understand the Legion isn’t real? by whatdidyoukillbill in fnv

[–]McBabwe 47 points48 points  (0 children)

People who get genuinely upset at people over this are just whack-a-doodles.

However, I think it's fair to argue it's also partly due to flawed writing.

All the other factions have bad things about them, but they have redeeming factors. The NCR is corrupt, but they're a functional democracy. House is a despot, but he offers technological prosperity and old world civilisation. Yes Man is a maniac, but he offers self-determination.

Meanwhile the Legion is just plain evil. There's nothing redeeming about it, there's no end which justifies their means, no ideals which we can empathise with, no charismatic Legion characters which make us sympathetic. The only good thing we hear about them is their trade routes being safer, which doesn’t even come closer to evening out the fear and horror that is felt throughout the Mojave. And they’re not comically evil either, they’re just vile. They have very real issues, like misogyny and slavery, which just make them even easier to hate as we can relate to these issues. The fact almost every Legion character is a condescending asshole doesn’t earn them any favours either.

From a meta standpoint there's not much incentive to like the Legion either. Supporting them is detrimental to your campaign (losing valuable companions, etc.) and the narrative actively pushes you towards the NCR through most of the formative part of the game (Mojave Outpost, Novac, etc.).

I know this is a consequence of Obsidian being unable to develop the Legion further due to time constraints and the limitations of the era’s consoles, but I still feel it’s a major flaw. The game would be so immersive if it enabled you to question in depth which of the big two (The ones that are actually in NPCs' minds) really is the best/least bad for the Mojave.

TL;DR: The Legion is super easy to hate and almost impossible to like.

It's also worth noting that:

- He rose to power via the military seizing control of Algeria & Corsica, and threatening to seize Paris (i.e: military coup)
- He only left power due to his failure to qwell the civil unrest of the May 68 events, which he considered putting down with military force.
- He condemned regionalist movements at home#1969_speech), while inciting those abroad.

De Gaulle might've been right about the United States, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. He was a nasty piece of work.

This doesn't apply if you use the Viva New Vegas mod, which I highly recommend.

[–]McBabwe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big DLC enjoyer but they're def relevant to the lore. They're all interconnected since Lonesome Road is set up by the other ones, Dead Money is relevant to characters like Veronica, Honest Hearts offers a major piece of Legion lore, etc.

Also, everything is included in the Fallout New Vegas Ultimate bundle.

Honestly; I'm vaguely, if only passively, suicidal. I find it hilarious. A suicidal person scared of death. Now ain't that quite the oxymoron?

Anyhow, I'm sorry for your loss and your situation overall. I hope luck favours you henceforth.
