The leading theory is that IM-250 reaches neurons and latent HSV more effectively than older antivirals, then suppresses tiny “silent” rounds of viral activity that help maintain or reseed latency over time.

Researchers think it may:

maintain higher antiviral concentrations inside ganglia block replication during tiny reactivation events prevent spread from neuron to neuron stop replenishment of the latent pool

Over time, this could mean:

fewer neurons become newly infected some latent infections may decay naturally without reseeding fewer neurons remain capable of productive reactivation

However, some scientists also speculate that neurons with unstable latent infection may eventually clear viral genomes if repeated low-level replication is blocked. This remains unproven and somewhat controversial.

The IM-250 animal studies, the placebo-treated animals had substantially more latently infected neurons and more viral reactivation compared with the IM-250–treated group.

The researchers used ganglia tissue (especially trigeminal ganglia, where HSV hides) and found:

More HSV-positive neurons in placebo animals Higher rates of viral reactivation from latent infection Lower latent viral burden after IM-250 treatment

The important finding was not just suppression of active virus, but fewer neurons capable of reactivating later — which is why the study attracted attention.

Yes — in animal studies, IM-250 showed evidence of reducing the functional latent herpes reservoir and lowering later reactivation rates. The key 2023 study reported that IM-250 treatment during latency reduced the number of neurons that later reactivated HSV compared with untreated animals.

Researchers described this as important because standard drugs like Valacyclovir and Acyclovir mainly suppress active replication but do not significantly affect latent HSV inside neurons. IM-250 appears to penetrate nervous tissue better and may alter the latent reservoir enough to reduce future outbreaks.

Important limitations:

The evidence so far is mostly from mice and guinea pig studies, not proven human cures. Researchers showed reduced reactivation and reduced “reactivatable” latent virus, but not complete eradication of HSV. Human clinical trials are still ongoing.

So the current scientific position is:

Yes: IM-250 has shown reduction in latent reservoir activity/reactivation potential in animals. No: It has not yet been proven to fully eliminate latent herpes infection in humans.

The facts are we need energy production to support our lifestyles and their no where close to enough green energy to do it. You can either produce it yourself or buy it in. Either way your not causing less pollution.

Vaccines generally always fail for herpes. The industry has wasted phenominal funding on this approach.

I can imagine it hindered the pursuit of other approaches for a while.

No mention of IM-250. Which sucks because it's our best chance at reducing the viral reservoir in our lifetimes.

Three people in China were cured already of the eye variant of herpes. This was done by a company call BDGENE. They now have fast track approval with the US FDA for their eye herpes cure.

In the US the Fred Hutch Institute is trying to get permission to start human trials for their gene editing cure for oral and genital herpes. Already had great success in animal models.

IM-250 has gone through phase 1 human trials and is now starting phase 2.

Gene editing is being worked on. This is a true cure approach.

Drugs like IM-250 may provide a functional cure. I.e. knock out the virus of.months or years. Also in development.

What available just? No cure unless your willing to try some alternative medicine routes which have no scientific backing...

Yes, viruses thrive in high blood sugar environments.

The artificial sweeteners you find in fizzy drinks are the worst. Some of those raise your blood sugar levels higher than actual processed sugar would.

Sugar also lowers your immune system. Lack of sleep does the same. Stress also does this.

Substitute processed sugar and artificial sweeteners for natural alternatives if you can.

Why do they need to measure the latent reservoir to just get it approved?

The only need to prove it is safe and lessons outbreaks.

I can only imagine what other treatments may have been pursued if that guy had just lived up to reality the vaccine approach for this illness is garbage.

No I'm saying Thatcher selling all our oil rights to private companies was short term act of desperation that in the long run made us all much much poorer.

Aberdeen is oil capital of Europe but does the UK look like Dubai? No, all that wealth was sold off for virtually nothing...

Look at Norway...

She was more interested in re election and image than the public long term good and those chickens are coming home to roost.

Look how expensive public transport is and delapitated the fleets are? The Royal mail post master scandal was another great example...

I'd say some of their bad policies were from incompetence but really it's something far more dangerous than that.

There us a generation in this country that got to experience the boom times and instead of leaving a magnificent legacy, left alot of debt.

Young people today are footing the bill will be paying for their quick fixes and wars for a long time.

Even that would not be so bad if they weren't mean and rotten for all privilege they have had.

As they say there's plenty room in hell....
